Kyushu 2011 - Absent/Withdraw/Return

Recommended Posts

Day 6 Late

East Maegashira 9 WAKANOSATO (2-3) has withdrawn as of day 6.

Right thigh biceps tear- 3 weeks to heal.

Damn! Missed that one. Didn't see it coming.

Hopefully it won't cost me at SG...

Having only heard of biceps tears as having to do with your arms, I thought this was a mistranslation. But according to that bastion of truth, Wikipedia:

The biceps femoris is a muscle of the posterior (the back) thigh. As its name implies, it has two parts, one of which (the long head) forms part of the hamstrings muscle group.

The biceps muscle in your arm is formally known as the biceps brachii.

Masuraumi injured his left knee after giving Tokushoryu his first the loss this Basho. His left meniscus, along with the external ligament damage have forced him to his first ever career kyujo. Takanoyama improves to 5-4 with this freebie.

Tamanoshima didn't appear today - Kotoyuki won with fusensho. Smells like intai.

The match is listed as a default on the NSK site, and there is no kyujo entry as of now. Probably intai.

I almost picked Kotoyuki for my Chaingang entry (since his bout was against Tamanoshima), then I thought, no, not someone with a losing record.

Chose instead someone with a winning record and now I'm out :-(

Rikishi winning by fusensho are overridden by your default pick in Chaingang. Did he win? :-(

Edit: Incidentally, I miscalculated, too, but in S4. Tried the "pick both opponents" gambit in combination with the Takanoyama fusen and presumed Occupier 99% favourite Miyabiyama, and decided on the Tama-Yuki bout for the two fill-ins (among a choice of about half a dozen bouts) - the logic being that there was no way I'd be able to pick Tamanoshima on any later day and get some use out of him the way he was losing left and right, so might as well go with him today. Little did I know I was going to be even more right about that "won't be able to pick him later" that I anticipated...

At first I was disappointed that I couldn't take use of Takanoyama's fusen win in S4, as I read it 50 minutes after deadline. But then I saw Tamanoshima didn't show up, given me a fusen point after all and with the three rikishi that were yet to come I was confident in getting 3/4. And so I managed to save Takanoyama for a later day this tournament, while at least I've already used Tamawashi without costing me. :-(

Guys, I'm sure you're quite flustered, but I guess there are quite a number of readers who would appreciate keeping that kind of chatter at the Sumo Games section.

For those interested, there's a discussion thread about Tamanoshima's retirement here. (sorry, not gaming related :-( )

Double Kokonoe exit as both Chiyoarashi and Chiyozakura are departing the basho today. "Cervical spinal cord injury (頸髄損傷)" for Chiyozakura, requiring an unmentioned period of rest; no bout given as the source so presumably something he's carried all basho long. No official reports for Chiyoarashi's injury yet, but I assume it's due to the awkward way he landed on his left leg as Ikioi shoved him out (before the mage-nage reversal) yesterday.

Day 11

West Makushita 17 TAKAGEPPO (2-3) is withdrawing on day 11.

hope is not too heavy injured

he had to be carried out an the back of a yobidashi after rolling sidewards off the dohyo while the gyoji announced the winner and was hardly capable of standing on one foot

reason might be that he was kind of kneeling when heavy maeta bended takageppo's upperbody back and down....

a style of injury usually belonging to baruto

More details: fracture of the talus bone in Chiyoarashi's right ankle, indeed caused by his Day 9 bout against Ikioi, requiring one month of treatment. Chiyozakura's injury dates back to a fall off the dohyo on Day 1, according to Kokonoe-oyakata.
