Fujisan 535 Posted January 12, 2006 (edited) I thought it was someone wearing a John Lennon Tshirt, not Lennon himself ;-) read that, Moti? It's getting better every minute! Well I was right then wasn't I (Neener, neener...) Now I just realised who the guy in the shirt is. You just confused me I thought you was saying it was Lennon- B-) I thought he was too old anyway unless like Elvis hes still alive now. (Whistling...) ;-) Edited January 12, 2006 by Fujisan

Manekineko 200 Posted January 12, 2006 Woo-hoo! This was a fun thread. Just let me say that I voted the same as Azumaryu for exactly the same reasons, although I have been Beatle/Lennon fan ever since I shared the bench with Ivan-the-Lennon-fan in primary school. ;-)
Sasanishiki 57 Posted January 12, 2006 Your poll should take into account the age of the "No idea" repsondents and those who weren't sure. You said yourself that, in your opinion, people your age (around 30) are less likely to know John Lennon. So, if the negative respondents were in this age group and the positive respondents were in an older age group then that would have gone some way to supporting your argument. For the record, I knew who it was. I'm 31. You are a tree inhabiting aboriginal! (Applauding...)

Zuikakuyama 1 Posted January 13, 2006 I doubt that many of the 2+ billion people living in India and China (and other non-English speaking countries) knows anything about Lennon. So on a worldwide basis, he is probably not one of the top guys. Anyone care to provide their guess as to the most recognized person in the world? I would guess it is probably Jesus or buddha, but then we don't know what they really looked like in person. For non-religious persons, I put my vote for Mao. Jejima 1,494 Posted January 13, 2006 He probably was the second or third most talented Beatle after Paul and possibly George...I have never really been a Lennon fan. ??? No, way! As someone once said, the Beatles are dying in the wrong order. To prove this hypothesis, Ringo will be the next one to go...

As someone once said, the Beatles are dying in the wrong order. To prove this hypothesis, Ringo will be the next one to go... Although having said that, there was once a magazine poll for 'best this' and 'best that,' for which Ringo was voted the best drummer in the world. John Lennon was asked to comment on this, and said something like, "Ringo isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles!' Paul McCartney is actually the better drummer of the two. Jejima 1,494 Posted January 13, 2006 (edited) Anyone care to provide their guess as to the most recognized person in the world? Very, very sadly, the answer is probably Ronald McDonald (think about it). I once watched a TV program on young kids from the US (I think around 5 or 6 yearts old) where they were asked to recognise various pioctures of supposedly famous people (eg the preseident etc). A picture of Jesus did very well, but the winner with nearly 100% recognition was that scary clown. With McDonalds practically everywhere, and with their big advertising budgets, Ronald is known most places worldwide (except parts of Africa). Have you ever noticed that Ronald is never actually shown eating any of his products? Bit like a drugs pusher (Applauding...) Edit: Thinking about it, I don't think it was a TV programme, but part of the movie documentary, 'Supersize Me.' Edited January 13, 2006 by Jejima

As someone once said, the Beatles are dying in the wrong order. To prove this hypothesis, Ringo will be the next one to go... I agree that Paul should have stopped putting out records after the Beatles split, but nearly all my favourite Beatles songs were mainly written by him. Or at least that's what I read, John cannot complain anymore...George cannot complain anymore....and Ringo probably does not know (Nodding yes...)
Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted January 13, 2006 Well isn't it quite obvious that the generation that was around when he was active is bound to know him better than the generation that was born in late 70s or 80s? Sure, Lennon has legend status and even more so since he was killed so younger generation also knows about him more but still, 50-year olds surely heard a lot about Lennon and listened to his music on radio etc. And he wasn't like some artists of old time who were not known during their own era but were later worshipped as geniouses. There are plenty of younger generation soccer fans who wouldn't recognize Pele while almost all older generation fans would know his face for sure. I think nowadays Bush might be the best known face in the world.
Odoriou 0 Posted January 13, 2006 For a while I was brooding on if I should expose myself or not... Okay, I will do it: I was almost 100% sure the face on the t-shirt belonged to this guy: But as Kaikitsune-san seems to be a treacherous person ;-), I cautiously voted for the second option... (Nodding yes...) When I think of a sullen musician with glasses, Mr. Gallagher comes to my mind first, then Mr. Lennon. At 29 years of age I'm a member of the Oasis generation... Randomitsuki 2,898 Posted January 13, 2006 The guy on the t-shirt on the guy on the left is not the most recognizable person in the world, but more recognizable than Lennon. BTW, same t-shirt artist?

Isn't that the guy from "Back to the Future"? The guy on the left has many t-shirts. Same artist in a small shop in Phuket, Thailand. Only regret the guy on the left has is that he didn't buy ten more. Bought four years ago and still looks like new, no shrinkage. Asashosakari 20,243 Posted January 13, 2006 (edited) Bought four years ago and still looks like new, no shrinkage. Frequent wearing notwithstanding, I take it. Edit: Oh, and let's out myself as one of those who had no clue that the guy on the first t-shirt is Lennon. I'm one of the two who voted "No, I don't really" because it kinda looked like this guy, but that didn't seem to make much sense, even if he is a musician, too. Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted January 14, 2006 (edited) perhaps if you lived somewhere that wasn't dark fo 6 months you might be able to see better harhar.gif Maybe. I conducted a quick survey asking from 5 Finns whether they recognize the guy on the T-shirt or not. Here are the results: 1. "Don't know for sure but has some Lennon in it" male 30y 2. "Looks like Woody Harrelson but I have no idea" male 32y 3. "I dunno". Reaction to "It is Lennon": "Oh?" female 28y 4. "It is John Lennon. Who is the basist in the picture? Don't know him." male 55y 5. "Doesn't look familiar" male 33y Addition: Norweigian female 34y: "No clue" Norweigian male 32y : "Looks famous...err...one of the guys in Rolling Stones? Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted January 15, 2006 My prosopagnotic eyes said the guy in the original picture is Roger Glover. Who would a bassist wear Lennon any way? (Bow...) The other dude must be a drummer by the looks of it.
ilovesumo 12 Posted January 15, 2006 (edited) Ahhm, I voted for "No idea" cause that could have been anybody, but, with my 20 years, I sure know who Lennon is. But I prefer Joe Cocker('s version of "With a little help of my friends") and Queen+ others I won't tell you to save you from starting to sing.
