Zingo 0 Posted November 16, 2004 Well, looks tough for him now....but I' think that he'll give it a try in january, as sekiwake.. Less than 10 there and he's out for good... (first poll for me, curious to see if it's working)
Asashosakari 19,669 Posted November 16, 2004 I'm kinda partial to the kyujo->retirement option after watching his first 3 bouts. :-D We've all seen Musoyama start really bad into kadoban basho before so he might turn it around this time as well, but usually his power was completely missing when he was doing so badly...this time the power seems to be there (and certainly the will also), it's just not enough anymore. One or two more bouts like this, and I think he'll come to the same realization Takanonami did half a year ago, namely that that's it. ;-)
QttP 0 Posted November 16, 2004 He should go. He really should. I don't mind seeing him struggling until he reaches makekoshi, but if he does - no sekiwake for him, just retire.
Jakusotsu 6,050 Posted November 16, 2004 (edited) Maybe, just maybe, we'll see some kind of history repeating with Kaio and Musoyama. There once were two formidable rikishi who were considered rivals. They entered Makunouchi together and were both promoted to Ozeki in the same basho. After 32 tournaments at Ozeki, one of them finally managed his promotion to Yokozuna, being quite successful at the top rank for another 27 basho. His rival on the other hand didn't survive as Ozeki for another year and slowly slid down to Maegashira. These rikishi are of course Musashimaru and Takanonami. Kaio and Musoyama are quite similar. They both entered Makunouchi in the same year, had their sanyaku debut in the same year and were promoted to Ozeki in the same year. It's hard to think about one of them without the other. Now Kaio may be on the brink of Yokozuna promotion while Musoyama's days as Ozeki seem to be numbered. History repeating? ________________ I almost forgot: for this poll, stretching the analogy with Takanonami, it will be Sekiwake in January. Guest Vincentoryu Posted November 16, 2004 INTAI, no Sekiwake for him after a pretty long time at the Ozeki rank. ;-) Hon-Basho as Ozeki: 27 (including Kyushu 2004) KK: 18 MK: 6 Absent: 2 Yusho as Ozeki: 0 Total Wins: 186 (including Kyushu 2004 up to day 3) Total Losses: 146 Total Absent: 61 Basho Average in Contested bouts (including fusen): 8,4 wins per hon-basho. Takanobaka 0 Posted November 16, 2004 Rule #1 - Never vote for Musoyama getting MK in a Kadoban Basho, even if he starts 0-7. I'm not going to say the Y word, but it just always seems to happen...
Kintamayama 45,534 Posted November 16, 2004 Hmm.. at first I though the topic was "Musouyama's fat". I was going to say he wasn't THAt fat, but then I saw the rest. 0-5, kyujo, retirement. I said that before the Basho.
Zenjimoto 40 Posted November 16, 2004 I would be surprised if he didn't at least give it a shot next basho, trying to get his 10. Sure, he hasn't gotten 10 wins since Clinton was president, but why not at least try? Unless HE knows like the rest of us that he doesn't have a chance ;-) Cheers Z. aderechelsea 125 Posted November 16, 2004 Kyujo on day6 and Sekiwake for one basho. Then retirement after a mediocre Hatsu Basho .....
Jonosuke 28 Posted November 16, 2004 (edited) I go with Kyujo and Sekiwake as he should know even with sticking around he will have tough time against the other Ozekis and Yokozuna (except Taikai who may go for a Kyujo too) as well as Sanyakus. He looked pretty pathetic in the last three days so perhaps someone will mention it to him, it's always a preferred option. As the other guys, he still can climb back in the next basho unless there is something terribly wrong with him physically like his chronic shoulder injury. But then I just remember he has FUJISHIMA Toshiyori Myoseki, perhaps I should change my vote now. Edited November 16, 2004 by Jonosuke
Elenrian 0 Posted November 16, 2004 Sure, he hasn't gotten 10 wins since Clinton was president, No, you're wrong!!! He made 10/5 in july 2003, january and March 2002, July and September 2001, and 12/3 in March 2001!!! And there was someone else in the white house (out in 4 years!!!!!!!) He'd better retire "with honor"... If he retires now, it's OK. If he retires when he is Maegashira 16 and 6/9, it is worst... In fact, this is his decision!!! Burainoan 0 Posted November 16, 2004 If he loses to Tamanoshima, that's it. i doubt he'll even go five, except with the fifth as a fusensho for his opponent. but if he beats Tama, he'll probably stick it out until six or seven losses, or maybe even MK. either way, i think he's gone. looking at his expression today after his loss, i think he knows it too. he won't go to sekiwake; he's indicated as much in the past, and i doubt his pride would let him. Gusoyama 104 Posted November 16, 2004 (edited) Didn't he start 0-3 in Nagoya, and he finish up 8-7? Edited November 16, 2004 by Gusoyama
Ivan Sergeyevich 1 Posted November 16, 2004 Behold the Great Comeback. I see myself in rest home before Musoyama's ozekihood ends. Yours in the name of being a bit different and feeling ever so smug should his guess turn out to be the true one... (Eh?)
Elenrian 0 Posted November 16, 2004 No, the site http://www.szumo.hu/stat/Musoyama.html#64 says he lost his first bout, won his second and lost his third...
Kaikitsune Makoto 209 Posted November 16, 2004 If he loses to Tamanoshima, that's it. Both in Nagoya and in Aki his bout against Tamanoshima was also rather crucial. In Nagoya he was already 2-3 after day 5 before beating Tamanoshima on day 6 and in Aki he was 0-3 as now when he beat Tamanoshima with power on day 4. If he goes down tomorrow and hence drops to 0-4, he might well retire immediately and Tamanoshima is not a weak foe. Big day for Muso. On the other hand if he wins tomorrow and happens to get some Shuzan on day 5, he might well bounce back the usual way. Still it looks more difficult than ever for him.
