You will be "treated leniently" by the Banzuke committee, based on each case separately.

Oh this will be "fun" for GTBĀ (Shakinghead...)

At least it's easier now that we know what they're actually going to do? Nagoya's banzuke may have been hell to play GTB with but I suppose it's good to get a whole bunch of data points in and fast.

Assuming they again apply anything like the principles we thought we divined from their inconsistent decisions, as opposed to doing something even more ad hoc.

First kyujo this basho, but not a rikishi

Shimpan kyujo: Futagoyama has a Corona case in the family and is kyujo today and tomorrow as being in close contact. He has no symptoms (no test result yet) and the rikishi were not in close contact, so they can continue at the basho. https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/202209240000589.html

I wonder if any of the rikishi who have tested positive are experiencingĀ "long-COVID."Ā  Ā If so, it would certainly affect stamina.Ā  It would be very interesting to have a list of all the rikishi who have had COVID and do an analysis of 'performance 1 year before' VS 'performance 1 year after' ....
I know recovery has been problematic and lengthy for many folks, including other athletes.Ā Ā

We know which heyas had COVID, but is there a list of the actual rikishi who tested positive?Ā

See:Ā

I didn't update it for the shitstorm that was Nagoya (although relatively few sekitori themselves got it), but there's the list of sekitori and when, if you want to do a before and after. Might need to fill in the recent months yourself.Ā

What are the current food and alcohol measures?Ā  This may be posted already but what is the daily spectator cap for Kyushu?

Full house, measures for eating and drinking are a bit vague now - not clear if the ban was temporary or permanent - a light meal is allowed o

The next Tokyo basho will again have a limit of about 87% (9265) for the number of spectators allowed, the following regional basho in Kyushu again with full capacity like Nagoya, 6976 for the Fukuoka kokusai center. Shibatayama about the differences: "The oyakata in charge of ticket sales had the idea, watching the development of spectators."

Eating and drinking at the seats is allowed now, even alcohol, about 1 bottle of sake.http://www.daily.co.jp/general/2022/05/26/0015334083.shtml

Jeez, it sounds like Lent.Ā  I would love to be a fly on the wall when they try to do the hair-splitting of deciding how much of this and that is allowed 3 months in advance.

The rikishi of Shibatayama-beya all tested negative. Shibatayama of course wasn't at the rijikai today, he had symptoms of a severe cold at first, but after resting has recovered now. After the quarantine period he'll return to work. https://www.daily.co.jp/general/2022/12/01/0015855608.shtml

The NSK announced today that there are no Corona related kyujo for this basho. The last PCR tests were early in December, those found out as infected then are now recovered. https://www.chunichi.co.jp/article/612620

They did no tests before the basho - apparently to be sure nobody is found infected this time

The yakitori sale in the kokugikan shops went kyujo for likely 4, 5 days due to a Corona cluster in the facility in Iwate that puts the meat on the sticks. There is enough for sales at Tokyo station and by the chaya in the kokugikan. https://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2023/01/08/kiji/20230108s00005000305000c.html

Anybody can order some in advance by phone from the chaya, so ardent fans of this kokugikan specialty still can have a nicer sumo experience, now that limits on eating at the seats were dropped.

NSK Corona measures will in general be abolished on May 8th, when the type of the disease is lowered to group 5 in the infection legislation. http://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2023033001071&g=spo

Due to Corona being downgraded to level 5, degeiko is allowed till the day before the basho https://www.chunichi.co.jp/article/680255
