Fede 45 Posted May 15, 2018 Two wrong calls by Kounosuke. I'm surprised, but no one is perfect actually. Thank you again for these videos

Thank you again for these videos As we all know, part of the beauty of this sport we love is the speed at which things happen. The gyoji only has one angle or vantage point at any given moment. Part of his skill set is to move and adjust to optimize this in response to the flow of the bout. Would be impossible for any human to get every call right. The nuances of sumo are beyond the human ken

Rocks 1,810 Posted May 16, 2018 Well, well. Very nice video. Seems the gyoji doesn't count for much though.
Asashosakari 20,251 Posted May 16, 2018 (edited) Incidentally, video timecodes have been fully added to the DB for Day 1 and Day 2. Many thanks to Miselet for the videos. My favourites for Day 1, including somebody who probably got a talking-to afterwards (Chiyooga-Morita, Jk) a valiant battle involving one of the smallest rikishi around (Shunpo-Bando, Jd) one of the stranger finishes to a bout that already looked destined to end in okuridashi (Asahijo-Osumifuji, Jd) some sumo interruptus (Kotosato-Daishojo, Jd) a nearly unassisted somersault (Seigo-Amatsukasa, Sd) collegiate Shoji with his trademark "defend, defend, defend, until the aite gives you an opening" approach (vs Yamatoarashi, Ms) and two 36-year-old ex-maegashira going at it (Satoyama-Sagatsukasa, Ms) Plus about two dozen more. And for Day 2, among others: an okuritaoshi of the less-than-gentle variety (Kotoito-Ueta, Jk) cat versus mouse (Ayaminato-Kototsukahara, Jd) 430 kg and 80 years on the jonidan dohyo (Kenho-Terunosato and Satonofuji-Kainowaka) a nifty susoharai (Akashiryu-Kasugaryu, Sd) mawashi getting fixed - twice (Daishomune-Minatoryu, Sd) some great resisting at the tawara (Okoryu-Nankairiki, Ms) work being created for the yobidashi on sweeping duty (Tsushimanada-Ichiki, Ms) and some prime sotogake pancaking (Asakoki-Asahiryu, Ms) Edited May 16, 2018 by Asashosakari 5
