Poor Keitenkai is STILL injured? Such a shame... :-(

Kotoyutaka's left knee looked so bad in his last two appearances. I hope his injury is somewhat 'recoverable'.

Did some research when considering using him for one of the games. He was expected to be out for a year at the time of his injury. That won't come around for 2 or 3 more basho yet.

Day 5 Fusen

East Sandanme 8 NOTOAZUMA did not appear for his day 5 match.

His arch-enemy Oazuma can rejoice then?

Not quite - Notoazuma was present and lost by hansoku, not fusensho.

Baruto's out, left knee cruciate ligament meniscus something.

Sad sad news. Baruto is one of my favorites rikishi since I began to watch sumo some 3 years ago.

That sounds like career-ending stuff to me. Poor Baruto.

If he busted his cruciate ligament it very well could be, that's surgery and could be up to 6 months recovery to get fit for keiko again :(.

I really really hope its not that bad, although even if its just the rest of this basho that he's kyujo for, he'll drop quite a lot in the banzuke, probably enough to put pressure on him to fight the next one to avoid Juryo.

Well, crap. On the one hand, it's not as if he hasn't dealt with a drop into Juryo before due to injury. But now I REALLY wish he'd taken the November basho off. It would have guaranteed his drop to Sekiwake, but in the event he went down anyway and was in no condition to re-take his rank next time around, STILL not being completely healed.

whenever I hear cruciate ligament something - I think: 6 months or more...

It's a pity and definitely not nice nakabi news... :-(

"After doing some sumo I thought my left knee was not doing well. I was all over the place this basho and losing to guys I don't usually lose to.. the most important thing right now is to heal, so I will gambarize to that end," said Baruto.

Yeah, ACL and meniscus injuries, severity not specified any further. Also no estimated time of recovery given in the officially submitted diagnosis - I'm not sure if that's good or bad.
