Babaryutaikai 1 Posted July 2, 2010 SNIP in addition to the steady recruiting from Hawaii and the rest of the US, the latter apparently being the only thing anyone from the United States has ever heard about. (Censored...) Talk about US-centric nonsense that annoys me a lot more than calling football "soccer". Oh? Would you like to see my saved honbasho ticket collection and the names of innumerable non-sekitori rikishi that I and several other Americans I know have and do support, not to mention know very well? I don't know where you come from, but even if you are an American, quit bashing and generalizing about sumo fans from my country. Of course, since you're so high up in the posting rankings, I'll probably get a warning for this response (Sign of approval...)

I prefer to take your beef with me off the forum and speak about it personally in September. Don't worry, moderators, note: I said Moderators, Martina, I'm finished with this and will delete my posts if you wish.

Peterao 3 Posted July 2, 2010 Getting away from cat-fighting and back to the news, there are nine Makushita-and-below rikishi who have been implicated in basbeall gambling, but have not been named yet. It was determined that they would be named when punishments are handed out on the 4th.
ryafuji 825 Posted July 2, 2010 Apologies if this has been mentioned somewhere already, but when do we get the banzuke? On the 4th as well?
Peterao 3 Posted July 2, 2010 The new banzuke is currently scheduled for release on the 5th.
Kintamayama 47,403 Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) Yoshikaze is off the hook. He admitted at the very beginning of this affair in writing that he bet three times during the World Baseball Classic on small amounts and added that he hasn't done it since. He has been pardoned for his honesty, the fact he bet for a short period of time and on small amounts and because there were no apparent ties to the underworld in his betting (as for this last excuse, the reporter cynically reminds us that those that were punished were also found to have no connections to the underworld, so Yoshikaze seems to have been lucky). 4 other Makushita rikishi who were candidates for punishment were let off as well. Score as it stands now: 27 people admitting baseball gambling: 2 Oyakata 8 Makuuchi 5 Juryo 11 Makushita and lower 1 tokoyama and a partridge in a massage parlour. The people who are not under house arrest's names will be made public on July 4th (with firecrackers and a BBQ, no doubt) Edited July 2, 2010 by Kintamayama
Asashosakari 20,310 Posted July 2, 2010 27 people admitting baseball gambling:8 Makuuchi Do you still count Yoshikaze in this? If so, I'm pretty sure Kotoshogiku needs to be added to the count even if he's not getting kinshin'ed. I forget the details but a couple of articles a day or two ago made it clear that he did gamble on baseball.

sekitori 492 Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) Waiting for the July 4th announcement is almost like waiting for a hurricane or typhoon to make landfall. You know it's headed your way and that it will cause damage. The only question is how much damage there will be. One thing is certain. Sumo won't be quite the same on July 5th as it is today. Hopefully, something positive will come out of all this current negativity. Edited July 2, 2010 by sekitori
Peterao 3 Posted July 3, 2010 And, the non-baseball gambler names are coming out. Biggest named card gambler: Hakuho. But no punishment will be handed out. He has admitted to playing cards once for tens of thousands of yen, but has fallen into the category of "not a heavy gambler and it's cards in any case", so he will not be subject to any punishment. The article I read said he gambled "about once every six months", not just once.

Yes, the articles this morning are alternating between "once or twice every six months" to "once every six months" to "a couple of times in the last six months". Asashosakari 20,310 Posted July 4, 2010 (edited) Musashigawa Assume this to be Miyabiyama. Is this list now official? There are only 7 Makuuchi (including Kotomitsuki) who will not mount the dohyo? Argh, fixed. Yes, barring new developments this is the final list. It was originally 8 makuuchi, meanwhile minus Yoshikaze, and 5 juryo, now minus the demoted Futeno. (Sign of disapproval...) Because he must have admitted to the lesser sin of gambling on cards/mahjong/golf. Exactly! There is this post on Naruto's website:
