For reference. Usually when you're talking about a shotgun wedding with someone who is in no way involved with the people having the shotgun wedding, you'd call it a 'dekichatta kekkon' (出来ちゃった結婚). That's something like an, "Oops! We conceived! Wedding" or somesuch. However, when you're actually addressing someone involved with the whole marriage, you call it a 'double omedetai kekkon' (ダブルおめでたい結婚). Something along the lines of, "Double Congratulation Wedding" in the sense that you congratulate them both on conceiving, and on getting married. The other term I know for it is 'kyousei kekkon' (強制結婚). That one is more like 'Obligated Wedding' and probably isn't used in the best of intentions, as it's semi-negative (in comparison to the others which are far more cutesy).

But that was my first thought when I heard he was getting married too. Whether or not this is an indication that Mongolian sex ed is as poor as Japanese sex ed, however, is beyond my knowledge.

Hey stop with all of these assumptions that she's pregnant out of wedlock! Really, it's obvious that Hakuho borrowed (or will borrow . . .) Aderechelsea's time-machine! He did this (or will do this . . .) to to ensure that the child is born just before he becomes Yokozuna in May!

On the train tonight, the advertisement for the April 8th edition of Sunday Mainnichi states that Hakuho had a dekichattakon (their phrasing, not mine)

And, that the child was due in May.

Guess he was waiting until the chance of miscarriage was small before "doing the right thing?"

I am not sure if anyone else caught what something Kariya announcer of NHK told Hakuho during the yusho interview as even Hakuho in his heightened state did not appear to get it.

Kariya announcer told him that now he got "Tsuma Tori" (catching a wife), the next is "Tsuna Tori" (catching Tsuna meaning becoming yokozuna).

I saw on NHK news today, Hakuho was showing his wife's pic on his laptop monitor.

I wonder him marrying a Japanese woman is a sign of his intention to acquiring a Japanese citizenship so he could stay with the Kyokai after his active career.

I think it's more indicative of him knocking up a Japanese woman because he's a 21 year-old with an excess of hormones and most of the women around him (coincidentally) happen to be Japanese.

Ozeki Hakuho disclosed a few more detail about his wife during a press conference held on March 26.

As reported he met 22 year old Sayoko Wada through a mutual acquaintance in Osaka around spring 2004 when he was still in Juryo.

Six months later he asked her out for a date for the first time to a Tokyo area amusement park. After three years he finally proposed to her after this Hatsu basho, saying to her "This Haru basho I'd like both of us to be together doing our best together". She accepted the proposal by responding, "Yes, let's do our best."

She is expecting their first child just prior to the Natsu basho. During the Haru basho Sayoko called Hakuho daily telling him, "Mom and baby are cheering for you." She even cooked a Mongolian dish and sent it to Osaka. Hakuho commented that every word from her encouraged him to do well and supported him throughout the basho.

Aske by reporters how they are calling each other, Hakuho said while his face visibly turning red, "I am calling her Sayoko and she calls me Hakuho or Ozeki....but you know...c'mon that's already enough..."

This coming Natsu basho will be his third yokozuna promotion challenge. "I feel more than ever, I want to get it done this time for sure. I want to show my good image (to the child)," Hakuho said.

According to friends, it was Hakuho who chased after her hard. Sayoko is a well known figure in Tokushima Prefecture because of her father, Tomoyoshi Wada, president of locally prominent company, Wada Forestries and board member of various local companies and foundations as well as General Manager of professional wresting outfit Big Mouth Loud and martial arts group Karate Point & K.O. Rule (according to Japanese Wikipedia).

Tomoyoshi was also the chairman of Asashoryu National Supporter club. His hobby is known to be photography and last year the police discovered nude pictures of underage girls in his possession. He was subsequently arrested and charged for child pornography.

Sayoko has been rollerskating since she was in elementary school and she was selected to participate in the Pacific International Rollerskating Tournament held in 1998 and won silver medal in figure skating, the first Japanese to ever awarded the silver medal.

She has been working as a "mascot girl" for Big Mouth Loud since last year.

Wow! Asashouryuu asked her father? Couldn't Hakuhou do it himself? Or maybe Asa didn't even ask Hakuhou.. Hmm.. there's the reason for the henka!!

How do you figure? He probably had a good idea that she'd say yes, but if her father said, "No," then it would be awfully awkward.

Of course, given the circumstances, it was probably a case of the father saying, "You'll marry her or else, kono yarou!" and Hakuho saying, "...Hai." Then he spent Hatsu Basho worrying about his future, moving like the Tinman up on the dohyo, and then decided to man up and take responsibility.

I've heard from one of my Mongolian friends, in Mongolia most of people are not happy for this marriage, because his wief is a Japanese, but how about her father's criminal history? They do not bother it? (Shaking head...)
