Peterao 3 Posted July 23, 2006 Asashoryu is now 17% of the way to my prediction of 100 career yusho. I expect him to be at 20% in January 2007, 50% by January 2013, and retire upon winning his 100th yusho in Fukuoka in 2022 at the ripe old age of 42. This has been an Asashoryu Road to 100 Yusho Update.

_the_mind_ 0 Posted July 24, 2006 so in just shy of 19 full years as a Yokozuna (minus 1 basho) you think Asa is going to win 98 out of 113? and 6 of the allotted 15 faliures to yusho have already happened. meaning you predict Asa to only get stronger for the next decade. you cant be serious. i agree with Adachinoryu, you might be too drunk to drive. ill have what you are having. sekitori 492 Posted July 24, 2006 On the other hand, it is within the realm of possibility that Asashoryu can win three bashos a year for the next five years. That means he very well could tie and possibly surpass Taiho's record of 32 while he's still 30 years old. But I did have a glass of wine a while ago and I guess that could affect my thinking. (I was stupid...)
Fujisan 533 Posted July 24, 2006 (edited) Peterao is the only guy I know who could be more 'Asashoryu mad' than me and thats saying something. 100 yusho? Hmmmm not sure I cant see that-Maybe 50 though. My favourite Petarao moment though has to be the time he fixed the Bench sumo automation so his team was- Asashoryu,Asashoryu,Asashoryu,Asashoryu,Asashoryu Asashoryu,Asashoryu,Asashoryu,Asashoryu,Asashoryu A bit naughty but funny at the same time. Sasanishiki 57 Posted July 25, 2006 There is no way Asashoryu will get to 100 yusho. It would make ozumo so boring that the NSK would arrange to have him shot before the sport died in popularity. (I was stupid...)
Kaihayaiha 0 Posted July 25, 2006 Sasanishiki sir, you're bloody mad if you think getting shot is going to stop Asashoryu from winning the yusho. He might go kyujo for a day and lose one match by fusen but I'm sure he'd be right back on the dohyo and back to his winning ways the next day and end up 14-1. Cammy 0 Posted July 30, 2006 I don't see the 100 yusho...but I have also had some Killeans after work...so again I could be messed up :-) Also Sasanishiki I like your idea. :-)
Asashosakari 19,668 Posted July 30, 2006 (edited) hahaha, a glass of wine affects ur thinking? i'm sure Asashoryu beats Taiho's 32 Yusho record. He's already past the middle of 32 with 17. Of course, when Takanohana was at Asashoryu's current age, he had...18 yusho. And he finished his career with...22. Edit: Might as well add how the other top yokozuna did at the same age... Kitanoumi 16->24 Taiho 20->32 Chiyonofuji 1->31 I wouldn't be too sure that Asashoryu cracks 30 yet. Edited July 30, 2006 by Asashosakari
Peterao 3 Posted September 24, 2006 Asashoryu is now 18% of the way to my prediction of 100 career yusho. I now expect him to reach 25% in 2007 Kyushu basho, 50% by 2012 Kyushu basho, and retire upon winning his 100th yusho in Kyushu in 2022 at the ripe old age of 42 (I believe that Kyushu is the place to be for Asashoryu milestones...) Joeblack 0 Posted September 25, 2006 Maybe they can name the emperor's cup Asashoryu's cup. Then, just automatically handing over the cup to him. Just when people think the competition is going to be better, it's worst.

Peterao 3 Posted September 25, 2006 (edited) Maybe they can name the emperor's cup Asashoryu's cup. Then, just automatically handing over the cup to him. Why bother making him give it back? So much wasted work... Just when people think the competition is going to be better, it's worst. All of the veterans with yusho experience are on their last legs. The mid-career guys like Kotomitsuki and Miyabiyama don't have enough left in the tank to perform consistently well. The newer guys like Kotooshu, Hakuho, and Baruto are/will get shut down consistenly by Asashoryu, never allowing them to get over the hump. Barring major injury (as Asashoryu has no problem winning yusho while not being 100%, such as this last basho...), I really don't think it's likely that anybody other than Asashoryu will win another yusho until at least 2008. As a stretch goal, I would like to see Asashoryu strive to cover the Kokugikan walls with pictures of Asashoryu and Asashoryu alone (how many are there...36? 40?) Even I don't think that will happen, but with all of the rikishi with the mental ability to defeat Asashoryu fading away, and all of the rikishi with the physical ability to win the yusho not being allowed to gain the mental confidence to defeat Asashoryu, I think we will see many, many more 6 yusho years to come. Note to Doitsuyama et al: This is my personal opinion based on my observations. There are 36 (I'm fairly certain) of those posters around the walls of the Kokugikan. Two new ones are unveiled at the start of every Tokyo basho. If my calculations are correct, there are the following number of pictures on the walls at present (Asashoryu's poster for his latest Yusho will only be unveiled in January).... Asashoryu 17 Musashimaru 5 Kaio 4 Tochiazuma 3 Takanohana 2 Chiyotaikai 2 Akebono 1 Kotomitsuki 1 Hakuho 1 In January, *at least* (depending on who wins the Fukuoka Yusho) half of all the pictures will be of Asashoryu. Not bad ;-) Edited September 25, 2006 by Jejima
Peterao 3 Posted September 25, 2006 Starting from this basho, Asashoryu should start making a little mini movie...so that six years from now, if you do a 360 while watching all of the posters, you could actually visualize a moving picture of Asashoryu performing shiko... Oh..... My memory fails me again. In that case, the following posters are currently on the kokugikan wall..... Asashoryu 17 Musashimaru 4 Kaio 3 Tochiazuma 3 Chiyotaikai 2 Takanohana 1 Kotomitsuki 1 Hakuho 1 Akebono's last picture would have been taken down in May. Takanohana's final picture will be removed in January. Full stop to the end of an era, and all that.
Peterao 3 Posted November 24, 2006 Another "Asashoryu Road to 100 Yusho update" should be coming shortly. Stay tuned! (Holiday feeling...)
Peterao 3 Posted November 25, 2006 Asashoryu is now 19% of the way to my prediction of 100 career yusho. Although Asashoryu had a very poor year with only four yusho, I believe he is back on track to begin a new era of dominance. I predict Asashoryu will win all of the basho of 2007, getting him 25% of the way to my goal by the end of next year. I also believe that Asashoryu will win a minimum of 17 out of the next 18 basho...and that Asashoryu will compile a 90-0 record in 2010. I know believe that Asashoryu will secure his 50th yusho on or before the 2012 Nagoya Basho, but will still retire upon winning his 100th yusho in Fukuoka in 2022 at the ripe old age of 42. This has been an Asashoryu Road to 100 Yusho Update. See you all again in January.
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted November 25, 2006 I smell a bet. I offer my better kidney and the hand of my eldest daughter, although still unborn and very likely to stay such so you'll have to content yourself with my kidney.
Peterao 3 Posted November 25, 2006 I am only the visionary. I seek no personal gain (other than the food and tour of Switzerland Lukas has promised upon Asashoryu winning his 40th yusho) other than the satisfaction of everyone telling me I was right 16 years from now. Jakusotsu 6,050 Posted November 25, 2006 ...as long as You can live with the more than likely possibility of everyone telling You that You made a complete ass out of Yourself every year from now, it's fine with me.
