Games you love to play

Recommended Posts

Are there any sumo games that you play that you are consistently bad at, but still love to play? For me, it has to be S4. I'm terrible at it for some reason, maybe I try to be tricky, maybe I don't see obvious choices, but I still stink. :-) Rarely do I go 2-13 in daily games, but last basho was stellarly bad for me in S4. (Shaking head...)

Oh how I wish that Odd Sumo would return, so I could actually have a game that I do well in again. (any news on this game ever coming back, or someone taking over?) :'-(

I play several games I like but I'm not particularly good at (at least no longer) like the hoshitori, sekitoto and sumo game. The ones I'm spectacularly bad at like tipspiel and chain gang are also somewhat fun, but being too bad is a bit frustrating :-)

Well, I think I got six make-koshi in a row in Benchsumo last year, which is quite a feat. Apart from that, I've also had a few faux-pas in Tip Spiel recently. I never amount to much in GISP and ISP normally catches me out somewhere along the line too.

I'm curious to know what happened with ODDSUMO too. Any news?

Games I like but suck at?

Hmmmmmm-Salarycap sumo which I just dont seem to have a clue at right now.

Also worth a mention Juryo game and until recently Sekitori toto. ;-)

Yet other games which are supposed to be difficult I seem to do really well in like GTB where I haven't had a single MK in 5 basho playing the game and Sekitori quad where I am working on my 5th KK in a row. (Sign of approval)

Can I say "all of them"?

There are some that definately require me to learn more about specifics like the styles of certain rikishi and whether they're supposed to go up or down the elevator, but on the whole I like all the games and generally suck at all of them except for the odd run of luck... Which comes in two flavours...

  • Beginners (Bench, Sumo Game, GTB, Kumi/Yoso, I forget which)
  • Or the random kind (Yesterday)

Unfortunately I'm entering all the remaining games this time around except Bookmaker, so I guess from March/May I'll just be relying on the random luck.

I really like the idea behind "Kumi", and jumped on that game at the start. And yet, after that first basho, I am unable to kk - I still haven't got the feel of the game.

In other games I really like I am not awful, so...

Ah, if you count "Adopt the rikishi" as a game - my first adoptee dropped of the banzuke and retired, and my second one is fighting for kk at his almost highest ever rank of jonidan 103 east, after accumulating 13 mk and 3 kk basho in his illustrious career. And he has a horse face:

But he's my baby, and I love him. ;-) :-S

I am sucking at everything this Basho I just cant get it right and so many Rikishi are on my sh#t list that I have every few guys left. ;-)

Is it just me or are there a huge number of really erratic and inconsistent Rikishi at the moment? Kintamayama would say its just me, I notice he is on fire in a lot of games this Basho!

I can't say I'm truly horrible at any of the games I play, but Rotosumo has caused its share of frustration over the last year. I still enjoy the simple elegance of the game though. :-S

Other than that, Salarycap Sumo is still rather a mystery to me, but it's only my third time playing it and I suspect I'll get the hang of it eventually, like I did with UDH and S4 after some teething problems. Or it could go the Roto route, of course. ;-)

I think my worst win-percentage record overall is in S-Quad, and I really like this game a lot...

But I think Banzai is quickly becoming THE "game-I-really-love-to-play-but-am-horrible-at"...

Juryo Game (except for that one time). Around 3-18 in the last three basho. :'-(

Chaingang. I'm hopeless. :-O

what i find is that with my first try at every game i am great.

Itachi replies:

That was my experience for a while too. I really liked OddSumo and I did really well the first time I played (I don't think I finished first but pretty close to it) but I don't think I won a single wager after that tournament. Eventually when I had to cut down on the number of games I was playing, I started racking up the kyujo there. I think I may have hurt my rank less by doing that.

I may drop off the banzuke in S-4 soon. I like that one too but I have been pretty hopeless at it the past few tournaments and I could stand to cut back a bit on my daily games.

These games are for me:

Chain Gang (not this basho, I reached day 3 ;-) )

Sekitoto: 55-88-7 over the last 10 tournaments and only 1 KK:

5-6-4

4-9-2

6-8-1

6-9

5-10

6-9

2-13

12-3 (I still think the automation changed wins and losses in Nagoya 2004)

5-10

4-11

and 1-7 so far in this basho.

For me it is the Solo Play of the German Sumo-Tippspiel. Kyushu 2004 was, so far my only kk basho, after more than a year...

But nevertheless...I like it.
