Kintamayama 47,226 Posted September 19 (edited) Former Makuuchi Mitoryuu (31, Nishikido), currently Makushita 7W, submitted his retirement notice on the 19th, which was accepted, the Kyokai announced today. He dropped to makushita this basho and was absent from the first day. He will hold a press conference on the 20th with his Oyakata, Nishikido (former sekiwake Mitoizumi). Mitoryuu, a native of Mongolia, arrived in Japan on the same flight as future rikishi Terunofuji and Ichinojou, enrolling at Tottori Johoku High School. He went on to Nihon University and became a student Yokozuna in 2016. He made his sumo debut in Natsu of 2017, ranked Makushita tsukedashi 15. Armed with his right-hand grip, he advanced to Juryo in Hatsu 2018 and Makuuchi in Aki of 2022. During his five basho in Makuuchi his highest rank was Maegashira 13E. Gurowake 4,151 Posted September 19 Interesting, Google has him listed as a "former rikishi" despite none of the sources available in English seeming to indicate his retirement yet (there are multiple if you search for his name in kanji). His English Wikipedia page has been updated when you go to it directly, but the Google preview is still using a cached version from at least several hours ago.
