Nobody above Jonidan? Is that a first?

Surprising to me that Ginseizan chose to retire now, rather than wait one more basho and retire with Otake oyakata and probably some of their other older rikishi. Wonder if only him retiring now means anything about what will happen with Otake-beya over the next two months, or maybe it was personal and he just didn't want to be at that last senshuraku party.

Fan favourite Shikimori Kazenosuke no longer appears on the JSA website.

He is very popular and had a ring presence far beyond his age. Disappointing loss. I have no idea why he's retired.

His last work was the last bout of the jonokuchi tomoesen ketteisen

Hoping it's just that he decided there were better career paths.

The NSK PR department confirmed that he quit and gave no explanation about why. The whole basho, till the end he worked as usual.

Sudden ozumo retirements with no immediate explanations fill me with a sense of dread.

He is a known rakugo fan. There is a rakugo event where his former Oshiogawa heya will take part officially, maybe he decided to take another performer career and will be announced then as a rakugo student?
Here is the news about it https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/photonews/photonews_nsInc_202507310001313-0.html

One would expect that the heya gives some information, but though they had heya news after the basho https://oshiogawa.com/ニュース一覧/

nothing about Kazenosuke - last the praise for his performance at the shinjo shusse presentation on day 8 https://oshiogawa.com/news/風之助 新序出世披露登場!/

with "He's still learning, watch over his progress with gentle eyes!" in the end

He's gone from the list of urakata on the heya site as well

As in life too. A very popular colleague suddenly gave two-weeks notice without warning and the popular store he also ran a couple of months later had a sign on the door that says 'closed permanently'.

I always had a soft spot for Ginseizan, who joined with no sumo experience and had been a speed skater during his school years. He deserves credit for reaching Makushita, even if only for a single basho.

One of the height-challenged new recruits is an ex-speed skater, 19 year old 茅野 Kayano.(Kajino? Does he gamble?).He left school at the second year of Junior high but dreamed of being a rikishi since he was small. After seeing Ootake Oyakata on TV attempting to recruit new deshi, he decided to join his heya."It's a cheerful heya, and I would like to gradually add to my physical strength," he said.

When former Taiho-beya rikishi Shishiho left the Kyokai in the early 90s, he opened a restaurant in what is now Inazawa city, Aichi prefecture, where his wife's family lived. Otake-beya went on to use the place as their lodgings for the Nagoya basho, as the shisho had been close friends with Shishiho until his death in 2006. More recently, former stablemate Denzan has taken over the running of the restaurant, and Ginseizan will be going to work there from now on.

A few pictures from his danpatsu-shiki at the senshuraku party.

Spoiler

Ginseizan has his first and last oichomage prepared by heya tokoyama, Tokonao.
