Today looked like Onosato was so unsatisfied with how far he managed to fling Abi away that he went up another level and sent Gonoyama fully into the seats. Not even a whiff of trying to check on the man - guess some of that Kisenosato stoic demeanor has rubbed off on him.

Typical for the expected "You do not attract attention" behavior that´s prevalent everywhere.

The Duke of Edinburgh and his wife Duchess Sophie were in attendance today. "I didn’t know that, I had no idea. I've never been to England," said Shishi, who won today. London soon, first dohyo-iri there in 34 years. Always good to have foreign rikishi too to showcase Ozumo abroad, said the reporter.

Watching the bout and seeing the torsion/twist/pressure applied to Hakuoho's right arm I was thinking "ouch! that's gotta hurt".

Come on...

The equivalent in judo is heavily regulated—banned in juniors, can only be used during groundwork, and in judo you can tap out. Some of the actual kinjite pose a lot less danger.

Sumo has many moves that can potentially lead to injuries. If we ban them all, it will become a very different sport.

I mean, it's a combat sport in which people fall on a hard surface, or off it from a height, so pretty much any move could lead to injury, but I feel like arm locks have an unusually high injury rate—it's a difficult move to execute without causing injury.

Morozashi is really the only effective counter to the double-inside grip (and it still requires considerable strength anyway); if it gets outlawed, double-inside essentially becomes an auto-win.

How about tottari? You could easily break your opponent's arm with it.

And we can continue the list if we wish.

I feel like this basho has had the best belt sumo matches we've had in years - lots of wonderful throws, and some good long yotsu sumo bouts. So much better than the blast em out oshi, which seemed to be dominating for a while. Thoroughly enjoying it so far

I was highly impressed watching Roga vs Fujinokawa! some great belt sumo there.

And for some reason meeting a juryo and not an active ozeki, with Asanoyama and Hakkaku

Kitanowaka, the main PR rikishi face in the presentation for London, saved the face of his shisho by his kachikoshi and ensured at least the return to juryo - the rijicho has no sekitori ATM, and no makuuchi for London. Maybe Kitanowaka will go there even as next low juryo (still makushita for London but treated as juryo after the announcement), seems like Asanoyama will go, as then still low juryo, why else would he be selected for the photo.

The jungyo has only a few juryo replacements now, I don't know how many juryo will be at a kaigai koen.

They really should ban that move.

If they didn't ban it during kime master Terunofuji's active days, they won't ban it now.

Takadagawa corrected himself in the explanation this time, in the end he properly named Kinbozan, at first Kinpozan (a proper mountain name) - no big blunder so far this time by the shimpan

The more I watch Aonishiki, the more he reminds me of Tochiazuma (today's guest on abema).

Said winner isn't exactly doing well right now.

"Injury schminjury", or so I've been informed today. ;-)

A nakabi KK is always impressive, and it's a really good look for a yokozuna. Well done, Hoshoryu - so far so good.

I could almost see the "I don't need to grapple with this little fella" realisation pop into Onosato's head. Bulldozer!
