BBC detected my VPN.

But PlutoTV did not, and I am watching.

But only on the phone; it does not work on my laptop with VPN - go figure.

He is on the dohyo right now. Tsuyuharai to Hoshoryu.

First bout in and it's already become blatant how much of a sham this is, with Kotoeiho of all people going for a massive tsuridashi WWE style... I'm sad.

The photos presented with the rikishi introduction look awful - where did they take them from?

Yep, this is jungyo sumo.

There are no advertising banners and no kensho. There were both in 1991, which further convinces me they had something worth fighting for back then which isn't there to incentivize them this time.

Glad I didn't pay for tickets...

Recording works fine on Pluto TV and eliminates the CMs. I wonder if they'll have it on demand afterwards. I wish I could switch off Hiro to listen to the unblemished hall sound.

So this is just a glorified jungyo with a crowd of mostly clueless spectators who were falsely sold a Grand Tournament. Understandable, but still rather sad.

after the rikishi-kai, Hello Kitty was appointed PR ambassador for the ozumo London koen, to represent Japanese (pop?) culture. Sanrio will cooperate with the NSK for the London event. The yusho winner in London also get a Sanrio-sho, for which the trophy is a 100cm tall Hello Kitty plush toy.

kensho - for London, likely also for the Aki basho on Hoshoryu's bout

The Kotoshoho - Wakamotoharu bout felt almost real.

Edit 1:

I am curious about the sponsor prizes, do you think, same sum than the Japanese ones?

Edit 2:

Ok the bouts are getting nicer imo, we knew what Aonishiki was gonna do, but still.

the last few bouts have been better.

especially the aonishiki one.

could it be that some bouts are more contested than others?

Quite surreal watching this on the BBC. Some decent bouts since I switched on for the second half. What's the format? Like a five-day basho, or do rikishi appear more than once in a day at all?

5 day basho. 1 appearance per day.

Much better quality to watch from Japan than from Pluto TV, Rakuten R channel shows it all around the world, so it seems https://channel.rakuten.co.jp/

And announced as VOD as well

Maybe some rikishi are just more experienced than others at making it look real? We almost did need a monoii in the end...

The second half definitely felt less staged in general, but still not genuine.

Maybe except for Gonoyama vs Hiradoumi. Now those two guys looked like they were going at it.
