And Hakuhou with a much sloppier dohyo-iri than Harumafuji. Having a bit of difficulty with the shiko or is it just my idea?

I've been saying that for years.

Hakuho simply doesn't care enough to practice the dohyo-iri.

He seems content doing just enough to get by.

Its disappointing to say the least.

Whats wrong with Hakuho's dohyo iri? His shiko is higher than both Kakuryu's and Harumafuji's. and his coming up from the crouch takes longer than most yokozuna. Don't know where the accusations of laziness are coming from.

I don't know where Masu^3 is coming from, but I was referring to today's dohyo-iri. Off-balance at the shiko and uneasy movements all around.

This old, skinny dude could teach Hakuho a few things:

If Kisenosato comes up with another jun-yusho at 13-2, his record for the past three bashos will be 39-6. Even though he didn't win a yusho during that period, in my opinion, his record should be good enough for yokozuna promotion. Futahaguro's three basho record prior to yokozuna promotion was 36-9 with no yushos. I realize that no one wants to repeat the Futahaguro fiasco, but Kisenosato's three basho record will be better than his--and also more consistent. If he has another 13-2 runner-up record, I believe he's proved that he can perform at a yokozuna level and he should be rewarded for doing so. Kisenosato's great misfortune is that he has to encounter probably the greatest yokozuna of all time in every basho. :-| Without Hakuho's presence, his path to yokozuna promotion would have been much easier.

Yet Harumafuji & Kakuryu have both been able to win a Yusho. In fact Harumafuji did it twice in a row to get his promotion. If Kisenosato is truly worthy of promotion, then he can win one himself.

If Kisenosato does get promoted with a Yusho, it would certainly be a lot lot less controversial than without

I wish i could explain, but it is in my guts to root against goeidou. Dunno why but can't cheer for the guy. Happened to be against tochinoshin today, who i really like, and yes!! Even injured the guy was able to beat goeidou.

Same case with me- it isn't in me to root for Goueidou or Kisenosato- and these days I feel like I'm the only one in the latter case.

Great bout between Kisenosato and Terunofuji!! In the matta i was sure Kisenosato had lost it, Terunofuji seemed pretty confident but no. What a great surprise. I really hope Kisenosato get a honest chance to win the yusho.

In my case i can start explaining by saying that i don't think goeidou is a good ozeki. Looking his records and his history in sumo he seems to be just average for a guy so famous in sumo. But i saw him perform great sumo from time to time and i raised my respect for him a little bit in some of the last bashos but i just got used to root against him, i dunno, im still waiting to be impressed. Kisenosato in the other hand always got me intrigued. He had a good structure and perfomed great sumo but seemed to always loose to the dohyo mind games , now that he is more confident he is showing how good he is and cheer for him became natural.

Definitely something wrong with Hakuho right? Sloppy dohyo-iri, weird slow matta and that desperate sumo today. He stepped wrong because his leg no responded properly, i guess. really weird to see.

I cant believe my eyes. Kisenosato seems very pissed about the race being between him and Takayasu. I guess he hoped to fight the yokozunas for the cup.

Yoshikaze's style matches up very well against Harumafuji's... not really surprised with that result.

And definitely did not expect that from Ikioi (or Hakuho).

And so, it's the two Heya mates in the lead! Who would've thought?

And thus, Best Eyebrows leads all the Y/O, thanks to a kinboshi won by the guy with the bleeding eyebrow. How fun will it be for us to see a 14-1 Takayasu v Kisenosato same-heya playoff?

I'd be rooting for the Filipino.

Ikioi looks completely lost in his kinboshi interview. Guess Hakuho slapped him too hard. :-D

They're only 1 win behind. He'll still be fighting them for the cup...

Things are so unpredictable in sumo that now that half basho have passed, yokozunas losses likes that just get me worried, but yeah we still have a lot to go and they still have a chance, i don't think Kisenosato will keep up, or Takayasu, without a lost in the next five days, so yeah, everything is ok but Kisenosato seemed so pissed it was fun to guess why.

Kisenosato has let better opportunities than this slip from his grasp before. And I didn't really see him pissed, just his usual intense face.

Takayasu on the other hand has already fought two Yokozuna (has Harumafuji tomorrow), two Ozeki (and he can't fight Kisenosato) and both Sekiwake and the other Komosubi. After tomorrow, the only guy he's left to fight form the Sanyaku is Terunofuji... he's got a real shot at going all the way if he can somehow win tomorrow.

I guess whatever training Kisenosato and Takayasu have been doing has worked. I mean jeebus. If Takayasu can get 10+ wins I think he may be getting a special prize. Just as Takarafuji will when he gets his KK.

Hakuho's antics and weird bouts the past few days are now explained. He wasn't playing with Shouhouzan yesterday, he was struggling. The King is injured.

The gates are open right about now.

Edit: Ikioi looked so concerned for Hakuho and went to lift him up from the dohyo floor, and Hakuho didn't brush him off. Great sportsmanship from both. What an upset.

I will not jump on masu^3's "Hakuho-is-unworthy"-bandwaggon, but I have to agree about the dohyo-iri.

First of all, you cannot compare Hakuho's dohyo-iri with Kakuryu's (different styles, and that's also why Takanohana can't teach Hakuho some things as masu^3 implys), but with Harumafuji's.

Two things are distinctive:

(a) the comming up from the crouch

Harumafuji's movements are smooth and his hip moves in a straight line upwards. On the other side, Hakuho's hip is going up and down while he comes up. Harumafuji's way looks much more dignified (and controlled) in my eyes.

(b) the two shikos at the end

Again Harumafuji is performing it in textbookstyle. One hand at your belly, the other raised followed by the stamp. He keeps this for both shikos. Hakuho on the other hand has his hands at the first shiko: right hand just hanging down (instead on his belly) and left hand raised half way up (not even above his head). And at the ssecond shiko his just grab his kesho-mawashi with both hands.

That are two points why I (just personally) do not like Hakuho's dohyo-iri. He either do not really care about the shiranui style (what I don't think) or he just what to establish his very own style.
