Akinomaki 41,739 Posted August 29, 2015 (edited) Miyagino-beya has to move after the Aki basho, Hakuho's intense keiko causes more tremor than the building can stand. He often smashes his opponents against the (wooden paneled) wall. This causes cracks in the wall, the earthquake resistance of the 4 story building from the 1980s is not up to present standards and not strong enough for Hakuho's power. A rare reason, usually problems with the owner family causes heya to move. Hakuho was raised at that location from a 62kg youth to yokozuna, the new heya will also be on the 1st floor, also in Tokyo's Sumida ward, close to the Keisei-Oshiage line's Yahiro station. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1530031.html Ironically Hakuho does CM's for a construction firm (7 on that page), where the building shakes not an inch at his thrusts. Edit: I added some facts above. In another CM for Sumitomo forestry his shiko stamping seems like earthquakes to the people in the house (only the first 30s): Edited August 30, 2015 by Akinomaki

Hakuho's preparations will be 100% degeiko. http://www.sanspo.com/sports/news/20150830/sum15083005020002-n1.html The planned new location. Construction works have started a week ago, they try to be ready for the basho. close to the Keisei-Oshiage line's Yahiro station About a 10 minutes walk away. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1530596.html
kuroimori 1,634 Posted August 30, 2015 100% degeiko means that some other heya lodgings are going to be demolished by Hakuho! :-)

The memories... Moti should edit all of his vids like that! That was the last of a series someone did years ago, but most of the others are low res and low framerate. They were OK viewing when they first came out, but are somewhat painful nowadays.
WAKATAKE 2,759 Posted September 2, 2015 Goes to show why he's the best of the best. He works so hard that his heya has to move. The man is a beast.
Gurowake 4,148 Posted September 3, 2015 Does this have anything to do with this thread and this thread involving Miyagino-beya? Seems an odd coincidence...
krindel 688 Posted September 3, 2015 (edited) Does this have anything to do with this thread and this thread involving Miyagino-beya? Seems an odd coincidence... Was going to ask exactly the same thing. A rare reason, usually problems with the owner family causes heya to move. Somehow it seems far more likely that the building is somehow connected to the soon-to-be-ex Kumagatani-oyakata or his father-in-law's estate than the possibility that Hak is suddenly too intense for it after training there for so many years. Edit: Not to mention this quote from the old thread about the heya change: What about the heya building itself? It belongs to the family of the old-old Oyakata, and for now the new Oyakata will be renting it. "There is talk of moving..," he said cryptically.A couple of papers came right out and stated that ex-Kumagatani taking back the stable seals the deal for Hakuho to take over in 12 years, either as Miyagino-beya or Hakuho-beya - going all the way to speculate about a sort of "Hakuho-dojo" arrangement in the meantime where Hakuho will secure the new location for Miyagino-beya to move to. Asashosakari 20,223 Posted September 3, 2015 Somehow it seems far more likely that the building is somehow connected to the soon-to-be-ex Kumagatani-oyakata or his father-in-law's estate than the possibility that Hak is suddenly too intense for it after training there for so many years. The most unusual part (if we take the original claim at face value) is that an alternative location has not only been secured already but that things seem to have progressed to the point where it is only weeks away from being ready. That timeline doesn't quite sound like "we suddenly found out our building is structurally unstable". The whole thing certainly looks as though ex-Kanechika's recent arrest has been anticipated on the inside, and his likely imminent dismissal means either he or (more likely) the Hirokawa estate has decided to cut all ties to the sumo world, and the current heya location just won't be available for much longer.
orandashoho 720 Posted September 3, 2015 What happens to old heya buildings that are no longer in function (regardless of alleged structural problems)?
Akinomaki 41,739 Posted September 10, 2015 The dohyo at the new location was ready today and the opening ceremony was held. Hakuho came after degeiko from Tomozuna-beya: he isn't used to it yet and finds it still a bit soft. He finished his basho preparations today, so it really was all degeiko this time. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1536072.html
Akinomaki 41,739 Posted October 18, 2015 (edited) Today definitely was the last day for Hakuho to train at the old location. He had started the training after his injury there, the dohyo had been removed. "I remember well when I came here for the first time. I got injured, and as final thing this dohyo (only the earth though) healed me. It seems to say to me to move on to the next (thing/dohyo/goal)." (he absolutely needs to take sacks of his home soil with him) http://www.nikkei.com/article/DGXLSSXK00097_Y5A011C1000000/ Edited October 18, 2015 by Akinomaki
