Haru 2014 discussion thread **probable spoilers**

So what do you guys think about the match between Hakuho and Kotoshogiku? Some have suggested that what happened wasn't real, but I'd very much like to hear what the old dogs here have to say...

Sure it was fake. Hakuhou is aiming for the most prestigious record - breaking Taihou's 32 yusho record. But heck, it's more important to give Kotoshougiku his KK and help Kakuryuu (who is now an equal opponent, or maybe that was faked as well. Twice.) become Yokozuna so it will be even more difficult for him to break that record. He's just that kind of a guy.

Apart from being completely ludicrous, that's an huge insult to Kotoshogiku.

I hope you don't mean that I'm the one insulting him, 'cause I wasn't suggesting that in the first place, I'm just scooping for opinions since there were such hints above in this thread... Personally, I admire the guy...

Let's put it like this: Given all the excitement around Kakuryu, Endo and Chiyonofuji's failure to get re-elected, Hakuho somehow failed to achieve the balance that had allowed him to have a 731-130 Makuuchi record (38-3 against Kotoshogiku) prior to that bout. The fact that Kotoshogiku was not so much taped but instead held together by tape might have irritated him as well. Further confusion might have originated in Kotoshogiku's smell, a result of the newest aroma therapy endeavours, but that is pure speculation, as we cannot verify this through TV (yet).

All this together must have upset Hakuho to a degree that he did stuff he rarely does.

That's life.

I'm saying that the idea is ludicrous and insulting. I wasn't accusing you, I was attacking the idea itself.

As far as I’m concerned I found the Giku–Kaku match to be odd, and the yokozuna clash definitely had non-standard tachi-ais. Still not sure what those were about.

Maybe the problem with Hakuho hand/fingers?

I see nothing wrong with this question. There have been accusations of "unmotivated" sumo before - to use kyokai jargon here.

As to the bout in question, it looked legit to me. Hakuho was slow at the tachiai and when he woke up and it was simply too late.

You're looking too short term, Moti. Hakuho wanted Kakuryuu to be promoted, because as we ALL know, Kakuryuu is going to be a horrible Yokozuna and be asked to retire before the end of the year. That way, instead of dealing with a persistently pesky Ozeki, Hakuho can be rid of Kakuryuu altogether.

Pshh, you're such an amateur sometimes. :-P
