Does that mean they are now selling fake giant macarons? Please say yes and please say they are reasonably priced.

Unfortunately the article doesn't say if the girls designed also this macaron version - the kensho banners were listed to be real ones when I was there to have a photo taken with it - and I don't think Nagatanien had them designed by Jissen. That fake macaron gets spent during one basho's event - it crumbles:

at the Sumo market outside, the macaron is a small and already quite battered version

looks only big with kawaii girls like this - the kensho banners and the kensho pack (empty envelopes) are real ones though

kensho banners are for Nagatanien and for Mochi-kichi sembei, which also are a present option (also o-cha-zuke from N.) when you get a photo taken with the items - by NSK part time helpers - in the hope you buy more sembei at the nearby Mochi-kichi booth

maybe the part time helpers and the girls on the photos above at the sumo market event also were from Jissen univ.

Takasago-oyakata (Asasekiryu) took part in the dohyo-shime year end ceremony of the sumo club of Fujinomiya Kita high school. He has close connections to the location, since his active days he took part in the setsubun festivities at the Fujisan Hongū Sengen Taisha, had in Fuji city a party to celebrate his name succession and more: "I want to raise  ozeki/yokozuna from Fuji, Fujinomiya in the future". http://www.at-s.com/news/article/shizuoka/1004696.html

A good old sumo tradition revived: golf tournaments

The 3 new ex-yokozuna had one last December, Nishonoseki, Kakuryu and Magaki with Nakamura (Yoshikaze) - and not ex-Ikioi - plus Onogawa and Otowayama as hosts. For the event of reaching 100 000 YT channel subscribers the NSK posted 3 videos of it, with a campaign to win presents.

Nishikido (Mitoizumi, 59) has VTR interview appearances at the YT pay-stream live online concerts of his wife Yukiko Ono, opera singer (soprano). On the 17th she has a birthday concert (born March 18th 1984), last year she had 2 concerts - the appearances by the oyakata are particularly popular.

One concert she had to drop due to a corona infection, which she passed on to the oyakata as well, causing the heya to shutdown for a basho. Coughing went on for a month after she recuperated for 10 days at home, and a soar throat in the morning. https://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/entame/news/4036277/

Not sure whether this is the right place for NSK between-basho activities not strictly sumo-related, but it seems that some of the oyakata (apparently from the Societal Contribution department) had a training session conducted by Japanese civil defence forces:

Quite a long thread, with images variously of Magaki (ex-Hakuhō), Sanoyama (ex-Chiyootori), Ajigawa (ex-Aminishiki), Kasugayama (ex-Ikioi), and various others practicing the use of fire hoses, fire extinguishers, and conducting CPR.

Perhaps worth bringing up the case of the Sakaigawa rikishi who rescued a woman from drowning in a nearby river, so such information is always good to have knocking around the general sumo community.

Sadogatake-oyakata with Kotonowaka took part in an event in the oyakata's home prefecture Yamagata, the opening of a supermarket, and had a talk-show afterwards. The new chief shimpan about the mono-ii conference explanation: "The most troubling while reading out the name is Wakatakakage, he himself says it's difficult to call."

In before the shimpanbu decide to promote Wakatakakage on an otherwise weak record, just so he has an excuse to take up his grandfather's shikona.

it seems that some of the oyakata (apparently from the Societal Contribution department) had a training session conducted by Japanese civil defence forces:

The NSK's posted the video digest of the training.

Highlights:

  • 0:20: Magaki finds out why, in CPR, they say you break a rib if you do it properly. Sounds like he broke more than just a rib, though...
  • 0:40: Arashio demonstrating crowd control drills, by specifically directing members of the crowd to go for assistance. Specifically, he asks one oyakata (can't tell who it is) to go call an ambulance, and gets Kasugayama to fetch an AED. (For future reference, this is actually standard practice in a crisis: directing specific members of the public avoids onlooker/bystander syndrome.)
  • 1:10: Subtitles state that all heya are provided with an AED.
  • 1:30: Firefighting training with water extinguishers, showing Magaki alongside Nakamura.
  • 1:55: Lessons on the use of the fire hose, with Magaki taking point and communicating with those actually operating the valve.
  • 2:40~: Spray can be adjusted by means of a rotatable nozzle on the end.
  • The oyakata were split into A and B teams. The aforementioned were in the A team; Shiranui, Takekuma, Kakuryū and Izutsu were in the B team.
  • 3:56: Shiranui gets a small lesson on how to best use the nozzle.
  • The digest rounds off with some interviews, including Kakuryū doing PR for Natsu and Ajigawa advertising his danpatsu on 29 May.

After 3 years a yokozuna-kai was held again, usually it's before the Kyushu basho. First time as shisho for Miyagino and Nishonoseki, who was the coordinator of the event. 7 took part, the only active Terunofuji, Hakkaku, Isegahama, Shibatayama and Musashigawa - Kakuryu (the only non-shisho among the oyakata) was absent o

I've never been much of a collar & tie man (and thankfully never worked anywhere that required it), so I'm wondering about Nishonoseki's curled up collar.
Is it "the latest style" or just ignorance about the need for starch?

Bad laundry and an ill-fitting shirt, by the looks of it. That tie knot looks too wide, too. Hakuhō has less going for him in the pocket square and haircut department, but at least his shirt and tie look better.

Sartorial matters aside, what's the main remit of the yokozuna-kai? Just basically an old-boys club for ex-yokozuna?
