New Yokozuna Harumafuji Dohyoi-iri style

Harumafuji is going with the "jinxed" (yeah, right..) shiranui style, like Hakuhou. This is the first time two active Yokozunas do this style. "It's the tradition of our Ichimon.." said Isegahama Oyakata.

That's surprising (only to me probably). I thought he would go with Unryū as a nod to Asashoryu and maybe have him there to teach, ala Akebono. I always forget about Ichimon traditions though, which I guess is why Asashoryu and Akebono got together for that in the first place.

Actually, I was supposed to teach him, but I only know the unryuu style, so yes, he will probably have to settle for Hakuhou.

It''s going to be a new mitsuzoroi (three piece kesho) that will be donated by his Kanagawa koenkai and will feature a design with the three letters 天・地・仁 (heaven, earth and gyouza benevolence). The background will be blue for the Mongolian sky and green for the Mongolian savannah.

Yokozuna Harumafuji has started "dohyo-iri keiko" today, coached by Isegahama Oyakata who showed him the general "attacking style" of the shiranui moves.. He also wore his brand new tsuna for the first time. For the tsuna-uchi (making of the rope) ceremony, all rikishi from the Kasugayama- Isegahama group gathered at the heya, wore red and white headbands and were chanting "Hee, funo, mi" and "sore, ichi, nino san" as they worked to create the rope.

Tomorrow at Meiji Shrine, Yokozuna Harumafuji will be performing his first-ever dohyo-iri. Yes folks, we waste no time-tomorrow he is thrown off the deep end..

Tsuharai is Aminishiki but tachimochi? And who will be with Hakuho at honbasho?

Tachi-mochi was Aminishiki and tsuyu-harai looked like Takarafuji on NHK. He is OK for tomorrow, but not next basho as a juryo.
