Hi Jejima I found a little typo. In the scores Table Situation 6. The top cell of the 2nd column should read B's team ©, not(N).

Group A gyoji here, I have now received line-ups from all four Group A contestants.

THANK YOU

I've checked your line-ups, all correct in terms of chosing the seven teams you got in the draw.

two things:

Mr. J - your R-team is Poland, not Portugal....

Mr. K - you forgot to note your R and C teams. I checked and added it, so no worries.

as said before, the deadline is TWO HOURS before kick-off of the first round one match,

so you can still change your line-ups till then.

Line-ups will be posted shortly after the deadline to the bench_world_cup mail address.

additional note...

who wants to take part in a 'normal' result guessing game ?

so for round 1 you guess the results of all 8 games

rules are super simple

correct result: 3 points

incorrect result, but you got winner and goal difference correct: 2 points

incorrect result, but you got correct that it's a draw (e.g. 1:1 instead of 2:2) : also 2 points

incorrect result, but you got winner correct and goal difference wrong (e.g. 1:0 instead of 2:0): 1 point

overall winner after all 31 games is the player with the most points

price: a few Bavarian Beers, if we ever meet in person :-)

my guesses can be found in this post already (see above @ gyoji practise training)

pls send your guesses to me till kick-off

Big oops - guess my ® jumped a line. Thanks for checking!

This doesn't change the order of my lineup, of course.

hi folks,

i'm sending a note to the topic because i just tried to pm all of the folks in group c (my gyoji'ing group), and the system won't let me message asashosakari. first best guess would be because asa-zeki's message bin might be full? can you check this asashosakari? in case anyone's wondering, the intended message was just me whining/worrying that everyone hasn't gotten their lineups to me two days early. i'm terrible at waiting.

Results as given by Andonishiki, i.e.

GER vs POR 1:1

NED vs DEN 3:0

ITA vs ESP 1:1

IRE vs CRO 1:1

FRA vs ENG 0:0

UKR vs SWE 2:2

RUS D 0-1 W NED

CRO D 0-0 D UKR

IRE D 0-0 D ITA

good news! i just checked the results, and came up with the same result, so yay! apparently i'm capable of scoring this and not making mistakes, though i wouldn't probably bet on me.

Probably I'm over the limit at which regular members can message me again...sorry about that. My entry's coming later tonight. (Ditto for the penalty takers to Jejima.)

Thanks to my quick, smart and strong players in group B we are first out with the lineups for round 1.

First out we have XiaoTan vs Chabonowaka:

XiaoTan

1. ® Netherlands

2. Germany

3. Italy

4. Ireland

5. Ukraine

6. Czech

7. © Greece

XaioTan refrained from commenting on his round 1 match as he knows what the wrong words can do too the minds of the the delicate players.

Chabonowaka

1.Netherlands

2.Germany

3.© Spain

4.Poland

5.Croatia

6.® Denmark

7.Italy

In the pre-game interview Chabonowka tells the present media:

"Well, i've examined my team versus that of XiaoTan, and overall,it seems i've got the better team. but he'll likely get the extra goal from his R in the first round, so i'll have to hold my chain longer. i'm not sure if i like Poland or Croatia better in their matches, but Poland seems less likely to outright lose, so i go with them on 4. hopefully i hold my chain two longer. or that's what the bookmakers told me to do, anyway. :)"

Gyoji comment about the match:

As Germany is removed and both players start with the strong Netherlands (Altho XaioTan got them as ®) this match will most likely be decided in how the outcome of Spain - Italy falls as the players have the opposing teams in the 2'nd slot.

Second match out is Pitinosato vs Pandaazuma:

Pitinosato

1. Russia

2. Poland

3. ® Germany

4. Croatia

5. France

6. Greece

7. © Ireland

Pitinosato declined the pre-game interview with reference to an active and brutal cold.

Pandaazuma

1. Netherlands

2. Czech Republic

3. Germany

4. Ukraine

5. Ireland

6. © Croatia

7. ® Portugal

Pandaazuma gave a quick word to our big breasted journalist:

"Fabulous start - representative team last, counterbalance team 6th. Congratulations on your easy win, Pitinosato!"

Gyoji comment about the match:

Interesting matchup. Even with Pandaazuma's carefull mentality he will be in good shape if his highly trusted Czech Republic could upset the favourite Russia in second match of the tournament.

Our dedicated representativs from the cheat-checking institution would like to make clear that all the players have gone through rigid tests and have come out clean, white and shining.

The Gyoji would also like to hand out a thanks to all group B's players for the early entries, it really makes the whole procedure a lot smoother.

Great gyojiing by Kameumi :-)

I like his style (it is very clear).

I suggest that we follow his example for future rounds.... i.e.

1. Portugal

2. Germany

3. etc

And here are the line-ups for GROUP A

First Match: Jakusotsu vs Achiyama

Jakusotsu

1. Croatia

2. Netherlands

3. Spain

4. Poland ®

5. Portugal

6. Greece

7. Italy ©

Achiyama

1. Netherlands ©

2. Russia

3. Sweden

4. England

5. Croatia

6. Spain

7. Greece ®

no comments were given by both contestants, which is understandable, given the nervousness and the importance of this very first bout.

Gyoji comment - both players surprise with some rather unusual team positions... in my humble opinion...

Croatia on top is a bold call, that one should not make public in any Irish pub these days while the World and European champions Spain on 6th !!

is also quite remarkable. What do they know, what we don´t ? Four teams in each squad are the same, but that might not matter at all.....

Second match: Kameumi vs Harinezumi (battle of `umis)

Kameumi

1. Germany

2. Poland

3. Croatia

4. Ukraine ©

5. Russia ®

6. France

7. Ireland

Comment: I notice I am alone with Germany as the Yokozuna in group A. This will surely insure my progress as spain is on the downsloap, yes?

Harinezumi has tough games for both his rep- and counter- teams vs my very own rep-team Russia and the solid England respectabliy. This makes my very confident in an easy win in the opening of this group tournament! I predict 6 - 0 !! Game on !!

Harinezumi

1. Spain

2. France©

3. Ukraine

4. Czech Rep ®

5. Ireland

6. England

7. Italy

comment: Hopefully ive done this right.

Gyoji comment: a very confident Kameumi might not have watched Germany losing vs CheeseChokos Helvetia 3:5 recently and might also not follow the Teutonian trouble with their attackers.... coach Jogi Loew took only two of them, Miroslaw Klose is injured and old and Mario Gomez didn't even score the easiest chances vs Dortmund and the BLUE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS CHELSEA London recently, so it`s a choice beween pest and cholera....but let`s hope Portugal won`t kill the Krauts on Saturday.

The Russia vs Czech Rep game could make the difference with is also the battle of R teams !

Let's RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRock`n RRRRRRolllll

I learnt an interesting fact today.... Ireland have only lost once when playing away from home in the past five years - and that was against Brazil in an exhibition match ;-)

I learnt an interesting fact today....

A less interesting fact for all you England supporters (What? Just me?!) is that out of the teams that had to qualify for this tournament (so excluding the Ukraine and Poland), England was the only one that did not score a goal from outside of the penalty area during the qualifiers.... Other teams could take comfort in this fact....

i'm still not even sure who i'm supporting. i don't know enough about any of the teams, and ethnically, i have roots in 6 of them, so that's no help. i'll have to figure that out while watching matches, if i get any time in front of a tv.

Due to the rules, I would suggest that this match *might* be decided by the Netherlands vs Denmark..... If the Netherlands win, XiaoTan is in the driver's seat, with a goal advantage.... If they lose or draw, his chain is broken, and Chabonowaka is looking good.... Despite the Netherlands impressive record of recent times (apparently they are number 2 in the world in the ELO ratings, after Spain), they might be thinking about their other two matches in the group... Denmark are a decent team, and could take advantage of any loss of concentration....

No, sorry, I can't support that point of view. A true supporter should know his team *before* the first match takes place, otherwise you are a fair-weather friend.... Look at you your roots.... See which way they are tugging you most, and support that team, *whatever* the results. That is the true football fan's way ;-)

Thank you very much! (Laughing...)

Had to put some effort in when my players gave me so much "extra time".

@ Andonishiki

Mario Gomez should be good enough.

(He is THE favourite among most bookeepers to score the most goals in the tournament after all)

He has been putting up great numbers in every single competition he has gotten playtime in for years aswell.

I suppose this could be yellow carded.... But in this case, *certainly not mandatory*, so up to the gyoji's discretion. I should not comment (and won't in future), but I would suggest (unless the gyoji is having a very bad day), to be lenient with a warning ;-)

Yes, I am assuming a win for the Netherlands here.

In my mind they are way to strong and sure to drop points to Denmark.

I dont think there is any danger of Netherlands underestimating Denmark as they have been facing them with some regularity in several different qualifers and know there strength well.

There are not a huge amount of important and really hard games among those "none-losses" tho.

Altho it is still an intresting point, no doubt.

alright, i've been thinking about this, trying to imagine which teams i would want to win in matchups. it seems to me that i would support the netherlands in any situation, and croatia in any match where they don't play the netherlands. it should be noted, however, that i don't really fall into the category of the true football fan. exposure and years of playing have molded me into a fan of american football first and foremost. either way, go netherlands! also, croatia! if it matters, after them, probably england and greece. (though the part of greece from where my family originates is now turkish, apparently)

maybe it's because I'm from Munich, so I root for TSV 1860 Munich (blue Lions of Giasing)

therefore I naturally HATE the other 'munich' team red b@stard Bauern Munich (99% of 'fans' are not born in Munich)...

unfortunately, our STUPID German coach has chosen lots of red b@stard players, much more than needed, as The German champion Borussia Dortmund plus Schalke04 and some other teams also have great talent.

Gomez plays for Bauern, so are Schiessbude Neuer, Lahm, Badstuber, Boateng, Kroiss and Saukraxler (also known as pigclimber or Schweinsteiger). You see, that I suffer a deep conflict of interest ;-0)))

naturally I support only white & blue teams...

Go Hellas... no, can't support you laty bunch either, as my tax money pays your debt...

(just kiddin' coz it's footie!)

so my real teams to support are

1. Germany

2. England (lived there 2 1/2 yrs and LOVE their passion for the game)

3. Poland (3 great players from BVB Dortmund and never won anything)

4. Ireland (Whiskey, Guinness and Greeeeeeen)

5. Russia & Sweden (hard to judge, which has more beauty girls:-))

It looks to me that you are a Dutch supporter. So, be proud of this now, no matter what their results! If they do badly in their first game, continue to support them until the bitter end - whatever (you'll at least be able to share my dismal experience of being an eternal England supporter ;-))
