Akinomaki 41,568 Posted May 8 (edited) 14 hours ago, Kintamayama said: Today, in preparation for the "Osaka-Kansai Expo Tournament," Osaka-born Takekuma Oyakata (former Ozeki Goueidou) paid a courtesy visit to Osaka Governor Yoshimura Hirofumia ahead of the August 3rd show. After the visit, Takekuma Oyakata held a press conference at the Osaka Prefectural Office and said, "I think this is a rare opportunity to spread the appeal of sumo to the world. I hope it will be an attractive event for first-time viewers." Approximately 200 rikishi will participate, and a dohyo will be set up at the "EXPO Messe WASSE" inside the Expo site to show bouts of top-ranked rikishi, some shokkiri comedy sumo , and sumo jinku. According to the organizers, the venue can accommodate approximately 4,000 people. In Makuuchi of this coming Natsu Basho, Gounoyama, Ura, and Asakouryuu are all from Osaka, and Takekuma Oyakata shared his expectations, saying, "If these three rise to the occasion, it will light up the place. I'm looking forward to it." Doitsuyama 1,258 Posted July 31 Maybe only 32 rikishi are needed? That would be enough for a KO tournament for example.
Yamanashi 4,040 Posted July 31 (edited) 18 hours ago, Doitsuyama said: Maybe only 32 rikishi are needed? That would be enough for a KO tournament for example. From my little experience watching Jungyo videos, they spend a lot of time with keiko and butsugari, which might be reduced (and save on injuries). I suspect that for many fans, just seeing their favorite sekitori is an important reason for attending the events; substituting an unknown Makushita might good for the NSK, but not so much for the fans. Kagayaki is, of course, a well-known name; Hakuyozan not, although his shusshin is about 12 km as the crow flies from the Aug. 10 jungyo site (30 km if the crow has to drive). Akinomaki 41,568 Posted August 1 The new kyujo certificate for Hoshoryu says "Left big toe, dislocation fracture". For the basho it was "Left first toe, MTP joint sprain and metatarsal bruise" The injury from training on July 4th was aggravated on day 3 in the bout with Aonishiki. o

Bunbukuchagama 922 Posted August 1 (edited) O'K, here is my (absolutely unofficial and unprofessional) medical advice to everyone on the list: Hoshoryu - extended rest Daieisho - see above Meisei - retire Takerufuji - extended rest while printing out multiple copies of his college transcript Tobizaru - retire Endo - RETIRE Ura - extended rest Chiyoshoma - retire Hidenoumi - extended rest, then retire Kayo - extended rest Shishi - eat the damn antibiotics, big boy! Tomokaze - wait, why is he even on the list, he isn't in Makuuchi yet? Anyhow; I don't know if it even makes sense for him to retire since he can't feel any pain (or anything) in his foot anyway. Skip the jungyo while continuing to cash those checks, piano will wait. Edited August 1 by Bunbukuchagama
Fashiritētā 209 Posted August 2 This my humble advice to everyone on the list: Hoshoryu - Take 2 Basho off, if injury flares up , take 2 more Basho off, a broken big toe is no joke Daieisho - Rest until you get to Juryo Meisei - I agree with Bunbukuchagama Takerufuji - extended rest while printing out multiple copies of his college transcript/ see Meisei Tobizaru - retire-in agreement Endo - RETIRE -In agreement Ura - extended rest please Chiyoshoma - retire-same as above Hidenoumi - extended rest, then retire and go work at a pachinko palace Kayo - extended rest Shishi - Heal up and rest Tomokaze - going forward in reverse, same as it ever was. Reonito 1,747 Posted August 2 I'm no orthopedic surgeon, but some of these guys may need more than rest, even if "healing naturally" is the sumo way.

RabidJohn 2,010 Posted August 2 I'm assuming 'elbow joint disease' and 'knee joint disease' is arthritis. I hadn't realised Tobizaru's elbow got actually dislocated. He's probably going to come back in makushita or even sandamne if he gives it time to heal as much as it's going to, so maybe he should retire. I doubt that he's ready for intai, though. Bloody shame. He's one of my favourites, and his journey from rabbit in the headlights to giantkiller was fascinating.

They say it takes between 6-12 weeks to heal, depending on the severity and if surgery is required. I am optimistic. After all, I am a sturgeon.

He is eligible for kabu, but we don't know what his actual situation in regard to acquiring one is . I guess it all will depend on how bad his elbow actually is, and we'll not get any further medical info for a long time, I'm afraid.
