JWS Nagoya 2023

Recommended Posts

Welcome to JWS Nagoya 2023! Last basho in real time yielded a very strong field from the likes of Gonoyama, Ochiai and Atamifuji, with the former two no longer in Juryo after getting promoted. Will Atamifuji make another drive for the yusho? In the game side, @Tetsuba in his second game won the first zensho yusho in JWS history, while we have some people who are still on the lookout for trying to make JWS ozeki. Tetsuba also has an open streak of 18 wins, will he catch Achiyama at 22?

Registration link:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/7NY63S2

Rules:

1. Pick one Juryo rikishi from the 28 ranked on the banzuke that you think will win for the day
   a. Two default picks are also submitted in the case of kyujo
   b. Two tiebreakers are also needed to be submitted daily
   c. The defaults and tiebreaker picks CANNOT be the same as your main pick
   d. Default and tiebreaker picks can be the same, but if kyujo is applied, tiebreaker changes still need to be made

2. A win will add to your streak, a loss will stop the streak completely
3. The player with the longest streak in the game for the basho will be declared the yusho winner
4. All Juryo rikishi including those in division crossover matches are eligible picks. Kyujo matches, makuuchi or makushita opponents are not eligible picks
5. You can play by submitting picks via the Survey Monkey link, posting here in this thread, by PM, or by email
6. Deadline for daily picks is 2pm Japan time (10pm Pacific Standard time), late submissions will not be accepted. Senshuraku deadline for picks is 1:30pm Japan time (9:30pm Pacific Standard Time) due to the early start times
7. If you play one day but miss the next day, your previous day pick will be used (main, default, tiebreaker)
8. In the event that your daily pick is in a kyujo match, you are asked to submit two default picks. If all three picks somehow go kyujo, your submission is counted as a loss
9. In the case of a tie for longest streak of the basho, a tiebreaker will will be used to determine the winner
10. Active streaks that do not end on senshuraku (last day) of the basho will continue into the next basho from day 1

Rule 1 had sub-rules a, b, c, d added
Rule 7 revised

Tiebreaker Criteria

1. Longest streak of daily TB 1 picks
2. Longest streak of daily TB 2 picks
3. Picking rikishi with losing records to win
4. Most picks with the least consensus among your peers (if you picked someone who was not picked by most other players)
5. Wins by picks against higher ranked rikishi
6. Strength of schedule based on the final records of the opponents beaten during your streak
7. Earliest submissions
8. Coin flip

Kekka scoring:

Kekka record/scoring is determined on a curve factor. The longest streaks of all players are added at the end of the basho and the total sum of the streaks is then divided by the number of players in the game to get the average streak up to the second decimal. The score is then rounded up to the next whole number to determine the KK line.

Well my streak is gone after I picked Atamifuji (Sadgoodbyes...)

I think this basho will be much harder than Natsu...

A bit divided, but Atamifuji is the pick of the day with 4 votes. @Flohru had Atamifuji as main pick and then in default and TB, so his second pick Yuma was moved to the first pick. @Koorifuu and @Sumo Spiffy were missing from the entrants on day 1

Not a great day as the fan favorite Atamifuji derailed a lot of players, no zensho for @Tetsuba this time per his admission. Only two players have their streaks active from last month as @Achiyama and Papaysu now move to 5 from Natsu 2023. Benihana has declared intai, thank you for the wonderful years. @Gaijingai has returned to play and making that move towards ozeki. We are missing @Koorifuu and @Sumo Spiffy, hoping that you will play on day 2!

Ichiyamamoto is withdrawing. As of now, no one has picked Atamifuji in their main except for Jejima who has been ghost playing. @Jejima please PM your day 5 pick in order to avoid a non-submission thank you.
