The 5 oyakata of the Kyushu team around Sakaigawa oyakata made a courtesy call to the mayor of Fukuoka, after two years again, since last year the Kyushu basho was held in Tokyo.

Advance tickets go on sale on the net on Oct. 2nd

The poster there looks like no dominant yokozuna will be there

That is … not a good poster design.

Surprisingly, other than blocking out the poor rikishi behind Kotoeko, I thought it was quite evocatively dynamic, especially Shodai and Takayasu's expressions. The lighting is a bit off though, admittedly.

I see echoes of Hokusai's Great Wave.  The rikishi clashing with the corona virus.  I think the composition is thought provoking.

Technically it should be the one where Terunofuji is silhouetted against a yellow circle, as this one is the basho programme not the basho publicity poster, right?

You're right, but both show the now dominant yokozuna and the pamphlet pic was new

Good idea, poor execution.

Interesting. It would have made more sense to do it for the last basho though if it was an intentional homage and not just a coincidence.

Except maybe if the promotion (in both rank and marketing) of a new yokozuna was higher up in the priority of things, so the homage got shunted. I wouldn't be surprised if it was in fact prepared with Nagoya or Aki in mind but Terunofuji's ultimately successful tsunatori took higher precedence in the marketing materials. After all, not too difficult to keep the prepared image and just slap a new heading on it.

The fact that Tobizaru and Kotoeko are featured supports the hypothesis that the homage was meant for Nagoya, as both were in the joi then.

A limit of 5000 spectators as usual now. Admission to the hall is 8:30a.m. till day 12 and 10a.m. afterwards http://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2021093001138&g=spo - maezumo can be watched and filmed, but will there be one(&only) at the venue? - the Hattorizakura fan channel guy had posted it as well, maybe he lost interest in going to a basho now (or not, the mexicansportsindian channel has changed the title from Sumo samurai Hattorizakura to Sumo Zakura now)

The gomen fuda was put in place today at the Fukuoka kokusai center - Kyushu team members pose in front (without Sakaigawa, the boss)

Wow. Semi-tongue in cheek, I wonder if Asashoryu will be motivated to get in the ring and give his nephew a few workouts in training or something.

Sakaigawa and his team of oyakata, those responsible for the Kyushu basho today made the obligatory visit to the governor of Fukuoka. The number of spectators for the kokusai center is limited to 3700, about half the capacity of the hall.

Man, the 1964 one is such a sharper, more dynamic photo. I don't know if they were trying to copy it or not, but the sumo one looks like such a cheap ripoff.

Not that it isn't totally unfair to even compare them, of course. Kamekura Yusaku is a legendary graphic designer.
