A meeting in person had already been refused by the legal team of Takanofuji. https://www.sanspo.com/sports/news/20191010/sum19101005010001-n1.html Maybe they plan to sue Chiganoura for stalking and the NSK for damages, for ruining the promising sumo career of Takanofuji. So, to get this right : - punching and insulting teenagers : cool - trying to set up a meeting : molesting Also, menacing to sue your employer to get reinstated ... bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off for him. dada78641 884 Posted October 11, 2019 I had actually forgotten about this case entirely, but I happened to see Takanofuji's face on the news for the retirement announcement. I'm surprised it went on for so long. You know, in principle, if someone has a legal case and they want to pursue it through the court system: fine. That's what the courts are for, right? But... this was just doomed to fail even if he won in court. You can't expect a rikishi to have a comfortable career when the entire sumo world and even its fanbase are against you. They'd have found ways to punish him for the slightest, tiniest infractions for the rest of his time in sumo. All this was just a waste of time and money. He should've just gone out gracefully as a gift to his brother.

He should've just gone out gracefully as a gift to his brother. Simply, the lawyers were telling him what he wanted to hear (that he had a chance) as long as he paid them money. Since he's never been responsible for buying anything his while life he probably didn't understand it's worth and there's very few earning opportunities like sekitori money. Then the money ran out and the lawyers stopped telling him what he wanted to hear. If somebody was funding him through this, then they don't have an excuse of lack of life experience to see how hopeless this was and all i can say is that there's brain damage involved or something. 1
Akinomaki 40,833 Posted October 11, 2019 Till the very end, Chiganoura-oyakata was not contacted - he heard the news from a 3rd party. PR chief Shibatayama: "Something unheard of." Takanofuji is expected to get 1.9 million yen retirement money (taishoku-kin plus yourou-kin) - he was 3 basho on the juryo dohyo - the last absent basho in the division won't count. And then there is something called the merit bonus ... http://www.daily.co.jp/general/2019/10/11/0012781381.shtml 1

Arn 24 Posted October 13, 2019 He brought it on himself and he doesn't seem like a pleasant person. And the JSA had to make a point of puniching that behaviour to make it stop. But still, I feel a little bad for him in the end... His entire life has been dedicated to sumo. It's all he has been doing growing up, to the point of even transforming his body into what is best for wrestling. He was good at it, and was, baring injury, almost guaranted a succesfull career with lots of money and status. Now its all gone, before it really started, and he probably has no idea what he is going to do instead. The money he got is I believe something like the equivalent of half a years normal salery (which he probably blew on his lawyers). And meanwhile his twin brother will still have all that which he has just been denied. The greater his brothers succes the worse he will probably feel his own failure. Actually not in the twins' case - no relevant sumo experience before going pro: Randomly prescient comment: On 22/08/2012 at 19:31, Asashosakari said: However, from the "uh-oh" file - it was their father who had the idea of them entering Ozumo. We'll see, I guess... Follow-up from when they debuted officially the next March: Edited October 13, 2019 by Asashosakari

At this very moment, ten-thousands of athletically gifted kids worldwide are spending every free minute of their teenage years training with the hope to become professional athletes when they've grown up. The vast majority of them will come to find out by their early 20s that it's not to be. There's really nothing that special about Takanofuji other than that he threw it all away on his own.
