These things are expensive, and most rikishi are not that rich. And the ones they are gifted can incorporate desired design elements.

It is expensive - they have a koenkai and sponsors for everything that is costly. Except the long term yokozuna, no rikishi has really big funds to spend.

Kirishima today received a kesho mawashi from the brewery Kirishima Shuzo co., ltd., with purple fringe and tassels that are only allowed for ozeki and above. It has 4 times the name Kirishima on it, the main in the design from the label of Kirishima imo-jochu sold in 1957. The brewery is ranked top (yokozuna) for 11 years as maker of honkaku shōchū, the director hopes that Kirishima makes it to yokozuna as well - K.: "I'll become champion. Kitanowaka for makuuchi promotion got a sumo manga kesho mawashi from his local Sakata koenkai. Showing Samejima Koitaro 鮫島 鯉太郎, the hero of the manga Bachi Bachi by the late Takahiro Sato, who also was from Sakata - the family agreed to it: the manga stops in the middle of the story, they'd like to have Kitanowaka continue it with his success on the dohyo. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/202311120001430.html

Hokuseiho today got a gorgeous new kesho mawashi from the company SAMpartners with hannya and dragon design from tattoo artist Bizen 美漸 - to rally back in the 2nd half of the basho. Hannya are a speciality of Bizen and the dragon is the symbol to rise up the banzuke. Atamifuji is now a regular Nagatanien boy: he made a CM talento contract with them and will appear in ads and CMs later on. A contract for one year, from Dec. 25th on. o

He got a really unique and personal kesho mawashi from Nagatanien for this, not the standard type Endo has en masse.

Onosato for makuuchi promotion got a kesho mawashi from his personal koenkai home in Tsubata town, about 300 supporters were there today.

it shows a fire cow of the Kagyu no kei attack by the army of Minamoto no Yoshinaka of the Genji clan against the Heike forces, near Tsubata wiki/Battle_of_Kurikara_Pass  (he is holding the town mascot fire cows Kaa-kun and Mou-chan)

Onosato had requested a design with this local symbol

Takerufuji gets his kesho mawashi from Tottori Johoku high, the 19th from the school and the 6th in this standard kirin-jishi mask design, the last was Tenshoho for Aki

Headmaster Ishiura presented it to the public yesterday, it will be sent to the heya soon, to be used at the basho - we'll see on which days and which other he has (one from Nichidai, one by his locals from the Goshogawara heya-koenkai o - one would have expected him to be at local sumo stronghold Goshogawara high as well)

Through a mutual supporter and Yutakayama's own interest in helping Naruto's boys, Oshoumi got a kesho-mawashi from the same sponsor with the same auspicious dragonfly design that he used in his active days.

    

Yutakayama and H&N have posted about Oshoumi's kesho-mawashi in their respective Twitter profiles. Either way, I think it's cute how Yutakayama got a liking for Naruto-beya after retirement.

Rikishi have displayed dragons and lions and even fighting fish to give them encouragement.  This, however, is the best example of the kesho mawashi showing the fighting spirit of the sekitori.

Hiradoumi from Hirado, Nagasaki, at the Sakaigawa-beya location in Neyagawa on the 6th received a new kesho mawashi from the esp. sheet metal work construction company Lime Ishimoto, based in Isehaya, Nagasaki, where the oyakata went to high school - the company chairman is a friend. It shows an ago (flying cod) as the hope for Hiradoumi to get higher.
