Kintamayama 45,534 Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) Three new recruits, including ex-Komusubi Wakabayama's 18 year old grandson (1.83/125). He will be joining his brother Oonami, a Sandanme rikishi who joined in November two years ago, at Arashio beya. "My father and my grandfather were sumotori and I have been yearning for this since I was small. My goal is clear-to reach my grandfather's rank," said the boychik. shumitto 418 Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) This hair gives him 1 "extra" inch I guess. But his body overall looks good for Ozumo. He has to lose some weight before bulking up but his torso is long, the dead center seems to be on the low side and I'd suppose his trapezius is one of someone used to practicing sports. At this age it will not take too long to have an idea of what he's up to. Edited November 4, 2011 by shumitto

He probably has been doing sumo exercises since about 1 yoa.

Asashosakari 19,669 Posted November 14, 2011 That's going to be a short session tomorrow with two Arashio guys in there. Maybe they've found a banzuke-guy to make it more than two bouts....
Asojima 2,874 Posted November 15, 2011 In spite of their background experience in university and other sumo clubs and the time spent in sumo school and at the heyas, the maezumo participants are remarkably clueless about what to do when they enter the ring. It is amazing.
Asashosakari 19,669 Posted November 15, 2011 ??? (0-1) - Araonami (1-0) Ishida (0-1) - Hidano (1-0) Anybody able to figure out the (new?) shikona of the banzuke-gai returnee? (Almost sounds more like a Tama-homu kensho announcement than a shikona...)

Asashosakari 19,669 Posted November 16, 2011 Tamaobu maybe? Something like that, just doesn't seem to fit with anybody that is banzuke-gai. Meh, I'll leave him as ??? for now. Day 4: Ishida (0-2) - Araonami (2-0) ??? (0-2) - Hidano (2-0) ??? (0-3) - Ishida (1-2) West-side sweep on both days - that oughta do it for this basho, given that they've done all five possible bouts. Final qualification order: #1 Araonami (2-0) #2 Hidano (2-0) #3 Ishida (1-2) #4 ??? (0-3)
Otokonoyama 2,735 Posted November 16, 2011 (edited) Damn that listening is hard! Now I'm going with Hamaobu. Ah, Sponichi confirms it, and adds he's in Onoe-beya. (浜大府). ;-) Looking at that article, it seems he was formerly Terasaka (寺坂), whom you have listed in the New Recruits for May 2011 thread. Ahh, I can be so blind sometimes...he's from Obu in Aichi prefecture. Thanks for clearing up the mystery. :-) What's funny is that he's clearly pretty inept at doing sumo (the 0-7 maezumo combined record speaks for itself), but he actually has pretty refined shikiri/pre-tachiai mannerisms...
