Three new recruits, including ex-Komusubi Wakabayama's 18 year old grandson (1.83/125). He will be joining his brother Oonami, a Sandanme rikishi who joined in November two years ago, at Arashio beya. "My father and my grandfather were sumotori and I have been yearning for this since I was small. My goal is clear-to reach my grandfather's rank," said the boychik.

This hair gives him 1 "extra" inch I guess. But his body overall looks good for Ozumo. He has to lose some weight before bulking up but his torso is long, the dead center seems to be on the low side and I'd suppose his trapezius is one of someone used to practicing sports. At this age it will not take too long to have an idea of what he's up to.

In spite of their background experience in university and other sumo clubs and the time spent in sumo school and at the heyas, the maezumo participants are remarkably clueless about what to do when they enter the ring. It is amazing.

Ahh, I can be so blind sometimes...he's from Obu in Aichi prefecture. Thanks for clearing up the mystery. :-)

What's funny is that he's clearly pretty inept at doing sumo (the 0-7 maezumo combined record speaks for itself), but he actually has pretty refined shikiri/pre-tachiai mannerisms...
