tominishiki 0 Posted January 3, 2004 (edited) Who do you think will win the yusho? Edited January 3, 2004 by tominishiki
Mark Buckton 1 Posted January 3, 2004 Nice poll tominishiki-san. I'm going to go with Tochiazuma here - see you went with Taikai. Why? I think azuma has worked a lot on his legs and 'low' stance and hopefully it will pay off. ANR
Fujisan 533 Posted January 3, 2004 Time for Asashoryu to win another Yusho and I think he will do it aswell.

Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted January 3, 2004 Chiyo's turn, I'd say. Just a hunch.
Tony 16 Posted January 3, 2004 I think that Tochiazuma have real good opportunity. He's my favourite.
Jesinofuji 11 Posted January 3, 2004 Asashoryu lost a good bout on day fifteen costing him the Yusho. This time, he will be on target. Asashoryu yusho clinched on day 14.
Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted January 3, 2004 I'm very much hoping for a Tochiazuma yusho, but I don't think it will happen (I suspect a reasonable 10-5 or 11-4 basho is about what to expect from him). I assume Asashoryu is the favorite as usual, but this time, as well as last (wrong then...) I think it's Chiyotaikai's time to yusho.
Asashosakari 19,687 Posted January 3, 2004 I voted Wakanosato (and was surprised to see I wasn't even the first one), mainly because I'm hoping he'll follow up his rather pathetic 7-8 in Kyushu with a much superior performance this time around, much like he did exactly a year ago. Kaikitsune Makoto 209 Posted January 3, 2004 U. Because U is the best! No detailed news yet about KaioU-keiko but he was at Isenoumi-beya keiko before new year's holidays. Soken will reveal more about the health status if not genki status of ozeki and yokozuna. Hatsu basho has never been a really strong basho for U though but Hatsu 2004 yusho has a nice tone in it. I am also expecting a lot from Wakanosato like Asashosakari is. He is now in cloud and may emerge with happy sumo.
Takanobaka 0 Posted January 3, 2004 I went Chiyotaikai. Asashoryu seems somewhat out of focus right now (starting keiko VERY late, unannounced trips to Mongolia, etc), and I think Tochiazuma might be a little worn out for doing TOO much in the last two months, and who knows whether Kaio's back will ever hold up for an entire basho again. Taikai is so inconsistent that he's never really a safe bet to win Yusho, and I really hope Tochiazuma wins to make things more exciting near the top, but for now I'll say Taikai... Manekineko 200 Posted January 3, 2004 Musoyama, 'cause I never can make myslef to consider these polls properly. (Hugging...)
Kashunowaka 300 Posted January 3, 2004 Musoyama, 'cause I never can make myslef to consider these polls properly. :-S That would be something ... (Whistling...) :-)
Anjoboshi 2 Posted January 5, 2004 Musoyama, 'cause I never can make myslef to consider these polls properly. ;-) If Musoyama wins, i'll remember that i have read it here first ;). I have voted KaioU, as Kaikitsune has already mentioned: it's quiet around KaioU, no pressure on him and maybe also a little bit more self-confidence because of the performance at the end of the last basho... Anjoboshi P.S.: It will be interessting to see how Tochiazuma and Wakanosato will do

Zenjimoto 40 Posted January 5, 2004 Dejima. He's back! ;-)
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted January 6, 2004 I think Dejima is back, but not good enough to win yusho. Same for Wakanosato with a vengeance. So I'm going with Asashoryu. I didnt picked Azuma because it seems that every rikishi that in yokazona run has a bad basho after the yusho If that were the case we'd never have a yokozuna (Whatever above, it is funny...) Fujisan 533 Posted January 7, 2004 (edited) I think this is the best chance of seeing an upset in a long time but I still think its Asas Yusho. Edited January 7, 2004 by Fujisan
Jesinofuji 11 Posted January 7, 2004 If Musoyama wins. If JFK makes a comeback, if GWB can find India on a map and name the PM of the largest democracy on earth and if Takamisakari acts like an adult. (Applauding...) :-D (Laughing...) Anjoboshi-san. Thanks for making my day :-D ANR I'm think changing my vote. I think Jumonji is going to take the Yusho and this is going to be the first basho in his Ozeki run. It won't be easy for him though. There will be a 3 way playoff between him, Miyabiyama and Kitazakura, who will make the most of his Makuuchi return. :-S
Fujisan 533 Posted January 7, 2004 "Musoyama or Jumonji to win the Yusho?" I said an upset not a bloody miracle.
sekihiryu 51 Posted January 8, 2004 :-P who will win? Kaio is in hot form if all the reports are correct. On his day he can easily beat a scrambler like Tochiazuma and cause Asa plenty of headaches. Kaio to win.
Fujisan 533 Posted January 8, 2004 Well I wouldn't write Kaio out altogether because like you say he can beat anyone at his best but we rarely see him at his best unfortunately-Not for the full basho anyway. Welcome aboard by the way Sekihiryu-
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted January 8, 2004 Welcome indeed. :-P Nice avatar. :-P
sekihiryu 51 Posted January 9, 2004 Welcome indeed. (Eh?) Nice avatar. :-D Thanks, I am glad to have found this forum, The Mailing list is good and very informative but its hard to follow threads. I much prefer forums like this. I see that many of the ML people are here too. The avatar was inspired by a photo of Chiyotaikai this year after he was dumped to the dohyo by my man Asashouryu ,the position he was in looked like he was riding a cruiser motorbike, so I superimposed him on to the new 2.3L Triumph Rocket III (about the only bike that could hold his weight :-P I was going to go for a dohyo background but settled for Hokusais famous wave. Chucked my kanji in there (evening fire dragon) and viola. Whoever wins this Basho, it will certainly be very interesting. roll on Sunday (Nodding yes...) Guest Musashimanning Posted January 9, 2004 I always like a pissed off athlete (Patriots Super Bowl run 2 years ago) and I think Asa is really pissed and will be able to focus that in the right way. If all distractions have the reverse effect I think it is between KaioU (I love the capital U) and Azuma with Wakanosato hanging around enough to make life really interesting. I think 2 weeks from now we'll be wondering if a zensho yusho could possibly happen.
