What to do with Wakanoho?

58 members have voted

  1. 1. What do you want to happen with Wakanoho?

    • He'd shown apt remorse for his adolescent folly and should be allowed to rejoin soon.
      12
    • Give him one year to reflect and take him back at Jonokuchi then.
      22
    • Let's wait a couple of years, but don't shut the door permanently.
      3
    • As much as I feel sorry for him, he screwed up irrevocably, and the NSK shouldn't deviate from their strict policy.
      11
    • It's his own fault and I don't feel sorry about it. Away with him!

    • I never liked the brat anyway - good riddance!

Some members expressed their sympathy over at the Wakanoho thread, so I thought it's time for another pointless poll.

Please note: this is not about what you expect to happen, but what you want to happen!

Wakanoho showed up at the Kokugikan today, properly attired and his mage in place.

He behaved and conducted himself as acceptable to an arrange marriage interview. He was far more well behaved than most 20 year old Japanese men.

He says he won't cut his mage.

He is fully discharged and certainly his crime could not be worse than hitting someone's head with a steel cooking utensil.

Suspend him for one year and let him start from Banzuke-gai. If he loves sumo as much as he says he does, then he won't mind a year of Tsukebito duty again. Who knows he chould be a yokozuna by 25 years old.

time for another pointless poll.

Not so pointless, it seems...the results so far are much more diverse than for most other polls.

surprisingly i went with choice No2. His behavior after the incident got a few points with me (apart from the fact that he ratted on his compatriots (I am not worthy...) ) and i wouldn't mind seeing him again fight his way up the ranks. It would make an interesting story to follow and to tell you the truth i love stories like that ....

We're not the only ones feeling sorry for him - in one of the morning shows the hosts took pity on him after watching his interview and almost wished he could come back. (Disclaimer: my Japanese still sucks.) Yup, sincere apologies got him quite a few supporters back.

I voted couple'o'years and back at jonokuchi. We shall see.TM

Wakanoho appears to be to the one most screwed over by circumstance. His oyakata was in no position to offer any guidance, and seems to have not even to have attempted to get help from the ichimon or friends in the kyokai to instruct his rikishi. As heya-gashira, Wakanoho likely didn't get much interference/advice from his heya mates. His connections from long ago in Russia put him on friendly terms with those clowns Roho and Hakurozan, who were in all likelyhood the ones offering most, if not all the "guidance" this boy received over the last year, as well as having a big influence from day one of Wakanoho's entry into the sumo world. What do you do when your "big brothers" steer you wrong, and pop's not around to correct nor counter?

I voted for the one year option and then for him to be allowed back with a shikona change. It would really depend on how well the Kyokai as a whole stayed away from scandal. I do feel bad for him - his misstep came right as the Kyokai couldn't absorb anymore scandals involving sekitori. It will be interesting to watch how it is handled. Good luck to him!

Yesterday I voted "Give him one year to reflect and take him back at Jonokuchi then" but If I had known about the whole sueing thing I would have voted "It's his own fault and I don't feel sorry about it. Away with him!"

I will vote to the second option "Give him one year to reflect and take him back at Jonokuchi then" because the behavior after the incident was nice and he will back to his track. I hope he will do that one.

I agree x100 with this idea. (Clapping wildly...)

Starting again as a tsukebito with all the duties to do would be a good sanction.

Yep the second one. If he really wants it. Then ideally he should be able to join.... from the scratch.

I hope one of Wakanoho's associates or a friend in the NSK can let Wakanoho know about the past cases of rikishi leaving the kyokai being reinstated at a later date. If Wakanoho was able to work out on his own to stay in somewhat decent condition, and to seriously reflect on his error, there may be the slimmest chance he could start again from scratch in the manner Jonosuke suggests. A slim chance is better than no chance, which is what he'd get with a lawsuit.

After seeing his last interview I changed my mind. Here is my choice - "I never liked the brat anyway - good riddance!"

/Sorry for reviving a dead thread :E/

He himself wrote, what he over all wants - some "Kawaigari" experiences. I'm father of three grown daughters & prefer fix things with words only, but in this case, mentioned upper by Skotkotaiakai - this is not an excuse, that Wakanohous oyakata is/was ill, at first he had good friends Roho&Hakurozan to ask about what to do.

Edited: I chose 2. - give him a year to lie all his lies ( thruth also, who knows ), and if he wants, Jonokuchi is waiting for him! (Showing respect...)
