Manekineko 200 Posted April 24, 2003 Glad you like them! Here's another sumo gallery... in Japanese, but if you follow the pink links, you can't stray too far. The first and last one will take you back to the home page, and second-from-bottom ones are for contacting Kumataro, but all else leads to (Kewl pics! ) Kumataro's sekitori photos

Tony 16 Posted May 6, 2003 On the first tachi-mochi is Hoshi ( future Hokutoumi ). On the second, I think that tachi-mochi is Kushimaumi.
Tony 16 Posted May 13, 2003 I think it's the same tsuyu-harai : Koboyama.
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted May 14, 2003 Thank you Tony (Nodding yes...) Kushimaumi had one of my favorite kesho-mawashi:
Fujisan 354 Posted May 16, 2003 (edited) Actually I think its Fujinoshin and Hokutoumi,I have a similar picture in my C4 book of Sumo. The one on the right of the first picture is definately Fujinoshin,I cant send a picture to prove it so youll have to check yourself but Im pretty sure-The second picture isnt so clear though. Amanogawa 59 Posted May 17, 2003 Actually I think its Fujinoshin and Hokutoumi, But still....I'm sorry if I sound way obstinate, but I think this is Tsuyuharai -Koboyama, and Tachimochi-Hoshi ( first pic )... Â Does anyone know the name of the delivery company? The company's name is Sagawa Kyuubin.

Fujisan 354 Posted May 20, 2003 Thats okay Tony, even if there is some dispute. Wasnt Koboyama in a different stable to Chiyonofuji or doesnt that matter?
Kotoseiya Yuichi 3 Posted May 20, 2003 Wasnt Koboyama in a different stable to Chiyonofuji or doesnt that matter? If there are not enough qualified men to hold the positions of tachimochi and tsuyuharai in the yokozuna's own heya, new ones will be called from the heya's ichimon; one of the five groups of heyas. This ichimon onnection is seen also elsewhere. For example when Chiyotaikai won in March and Chiyotenzan couldn't be used to hold the flag in the victory parade as he was a toriteki in makushita and there were no other Kokonoe sekitori, Kaiho came to assist. Kaiho belongs to Hakkaku-beya which belongs to the same ichimon as Kokonoe, viz. Takasago. For the grouping, see Nekonishiki's heya index page. ;-)
Yoavoshimaru 0 Posted May 20, 2003 If there are not enough qualified men to hold the positions of tachimochi and tsuyuharai ;-) What are the required qualifications?
Yubiquitoyama 3 Posted May 20, 2003 (edited) If there are not enough qualified men to hold the positions of tachimochi and tsuyuharai ;-) What are the required qualifications? Kotoseiya seems to indicate it suffices for them to be sekitori, but I'm pretty sure they actually need to be Makunouchi rikishi. Don't quote me on it yet though until I have confirmed what is correct. They also aren't supposed to be Ozeki or Yokozuna although they might be on special occasions (although not during hon-basho as far as I understand). Don't quote me on it yet though until I have confirmed what is correct.(...) They also aren't supposed to be Ozeki or Yokozuna although they might be on special occasions (although not during hon-basho as far as I understand). Now that I think this issue more closely I must admit I've never seen a juryo as a tsuyuharai, let alone tachimochi (tsuyuharai is always supposed to be lower ranked of those two). In a very unlikely situation where a yokozuna is the only makuuchi rikishi of an ichimon, there would be no alternatives for both of them but be juryos but this is admittedly just frivolous speculation. I can't think of a situation where there hasn't always been at least one man in makuuchi from every five ichimons. Now that'd be one of the ultimate statistical anomalies! ;-) Speaking of a three yokozuna dohyo-iri... Where did I put that magazine? Where is the scanner's driver CD? Something to be seen on this thread later tonight... :-D UPDATE: I think it would have been likely that Chiyotenzan in the above example would've been the flag carrier, had he been a juryo at the time. As for the requirements of the tachimochi and tsuyuharai I don't think I wrote anything about sekitori/toriteki separation in my earlier message. I might have given that kind of (false) impression, yes. Sorry about that. :-D Edited May 20, 2003 by Kotoseiya Yuichi
Manekineko 200 Posted May 23, 2003 Here's a little Mongolian Special! And what better way to start it than by showing how friendy once they were, at least for the photo-ops.
