Some stories from Asahi:

One person was missing in this whole saga so far-ex-Taihou. Asashouryuu always had the greatest respect for him, and they met a few times when Asa needed his advice. So people were wondering why there was no meeting or interaction between them. It turns out that Taihou tried to reach him twice by phone, but was told that "the Yokozuna is in no shape to speak on the phone at the moment". "I just wanted to tell him that I had my difficult days as well as a rikishi, and I used to meditate and try to strengthen my spirit..", explained Ex-Taihou.

Some Makuuchi rikishi loudly voiced their opinion that if it were them, they would be fired immediately, hinting that the NSK is too lenient with Asa, while most of the Mongolian rikishi are more understanding.

Some Kyokai person said this: "If he were to remain in Japan doing nothing while the other rikishi are earnestly doing keiko in preparation for September, it would be a big bother. It's better he be allowed to return to Mongolia. And if he doesn't come back, well, it's Ok by me.."

Then a contingent of guards/policemen/army recruits were brought in so no one, especially the Japanese media , would bother Asa. He will be traveling an additional 50 kilometers each way to the natural spring in Hojilt (Khujirt, I am corrected..) for treatment. (The owner of this facility was warned not to let any Japanese media people in)

The show that is on here is really getting on my nerves. Lot of it is complete show for the audience, face saving and strange rituals. Sometimes beautiful simplycity would be that is required. Kyokai has total dictatorship when it comes to punishing rikishi in any way, just or not, they have that authority. The punishment was given, Asashoryu will be back in Hatsu basho after two basho absence. Then Shoryu goes off the wall and mentally odd. Tremendous scene proceeds. Many doctors, many press conferences, all sorts of "I am Shoryu's friend too!" strangers make comments and it is all so complicated. People who have once sat at the same dinner table defend him religiously as he was so nice then at the dinner when we looked at him with admiration! Why the hell didn't someone just get Shoryu some one specialist doctor who then treats him and figures out what is wrong with Shoryu. I don't believe one second that Takasago oyakata would be so smart to think up plots how to take this matter into proper course like Madorosumaru suggested in one message. I don't believe this has been in anybody's control anymore but I do believe it could have been controlled quite well and without the fuss. World is full of silly rituals that contribute absolutely nothing to the actual cause. Japanese way highlights this in many ways but same goes worldwide. Kyokai is full of guys who have mostly just walked around in mawashi their whole life and vacuumed roids and booze. Their "street smarts" seem quite inadequate to deal with much anything out of the ordinary.

Mongolia isn't any better. It is totally comical how they "protect" Shoryu now. Closing up the dreamland, putting heavy guard formation to block access, transporting Shoryu to some onsen daily for mud treatment. I bet he has his slave army there to do whatever he wants. Disgusting thought.

Being a public person often means everything is screwed up. Sharon was saved to become veggie in some hospital bed just because it was necessary to try everything even in hopeless situation to keep him alive while any standard human would have been let to die. It pisses me off that I can't think of any other example now, damn it!!! Sometimes in medical world when shit happens to public figure, some most senior surgeons are put on duty even though they have long lost the touch to modern surgial techniques and there would be plenty of better younger surgeons who operate every day and are up-to-date to most recent techniques etc.

Is Shoryu really so mentally ill now as it seems? Is he total psycho who beats up people and thinks he is the king of the world? Is he is a misunderstood athlete who tried so hard but Japan betrayed him? Screw him, screw all idiots who defend him blindly. This whole shit is so stupid. If Shoryu retires, the idiots who merge here and say "now sumo is pathetic" will be banned immediately. Nobody needs such shit on forum.

Hope he doesn't retire though. He is competitive and great sumo he does so for goodness sake come back in Hatsu basho and do your thing. Sumo is your thing. Sumo is a very good thing damn it.

The general picture is becoming clear. It seems Asa has a concrete plan regarding his recuperation. He is living in "Dreamland", a tourist recreation/recuperation facility some 400 kilometers from the airport in Halaholin (Kharakhorum,it is..). This facility is owned by Asa and a relative, who bought/rented it from the government when he became yokozuna. The facility notified its guests lately that it will be closed for repairs and canceled all reservations, leaving it empty for Asa and his relatives/friends/camp to fill at a later date, which came yesterday. It is reported that his wife is definitely there, contrary to the rumors. Then a contingent of guards/policemen/army recruits were brought in so no one, especially the Japanese media , would bother Asa. So, in summary, Asashouryuu will be based (and it is a base, for sure..) in Halaholin and will travel to Hojilt for onsen treatment.

* A slightly different version-Takasago went alone to check the onsen and even used its facilities. He then met up with Dr. Honda and Asashouryuu at Asa's headquarters where they discussed his treatment.

Dreamland:

Aaah, some folks are just born lucky. Is Asa in hot water? I called this a spa..a dreamland, paradise..an ideal retirement...the most ideal recuperative place... a respite..vacation..or call it what ever you like. As a die-hard Asa fan, am envious! (Neener, neener...)

That is PRECISELY why his punishment was so strong. If he had come straight back and had a press conference, and gone straight back to jungyo to do dohyo-iri in the heat like everyone else, he would probably be competing in Aki. He didn't even have to apologize for doing anything wrong. He just had to apologize for giving the impression of doing something wrong, and for confusing the public and the kyokai about the status of his health. This kind of half-apology would have been more than enough. End of story.

Just ask anyone who actually has experience with Japanese culture. Oh wait, they've already tried to explain it to you, but you've ignored them all. (Neener, neener...)

Sumyabazar, brother of Asashoryu gave interview in Mongolian TV. He said Asa's coming back home is very good for Asa. Postitive change in Asa's psycholoigical condition is noticeable .

Does anyone know someone who's been to this Dreamland?

I very much like to go there. Hotsprings near by and clean water. All wonderful stuff. I imagine you can get to ride horses in Dreamland. I wonder if camels and sheep are there too. You know kids love a petting zoo and most love camping in nature.

I guess Michale Jackson got it all wrong, he should have built his Never Never Land in Mongolia. It's all nothing but good clean fun there for everyone.

Dreamland is a private property and it's Asashoryu's so he can do whatever he wants there. He can dictate who can stay and cannot. Nothing wrong with that at all. He has means and resources to protect its property from any intruders. But he has no private staff posted around its property. Oh so reporters figured they could at least get close enough to the place.

Except that they can't move around freely there as apparently in Mongolia troops and police are used to guard the rich and famous. In a way it's really a shame for a country with its GNP ranking near the low end to have its government wasting their money on such frivolous stuff like shooing away Japanese reporters when they could do more to build infrastructures and raise the living standards of its people.

But I guess Japanese or anyone else should not be interfering with their internal matters like those in Mongolia are doing it to internal affairs of organization in Japan or criticizing officials in such organization.

Takasago Oyakata held a press conference today upon his return from Mongolia. He looked like a man who had a heavy burden removed from his shoulders and was joking and laughing a bit.

Q: What is Yokozuna Asashouryuu's current state?

A: After arriving in Mongolia, he spent some time with his brothers and other relatives. I think his endless worrying in Tokyo was very painful for him.

Q: That was a quick return for you..

A: Asashouryuu is surely my deshi, but I have others too. I have a new sekiwake (Asasekiryuu) and I have to take care of him as well. I have inspected the lodgings and the medical institution in Mongolia. I will soon be dispatching two managers , and I will also go back to keep an eye on things.

Q: Did you return after confirming the conditions in which he will be getting medical attention?

A: The doctor is a resident. I questioned the staff there as well. There is training equipment at the institution, he can do some running and stretching there. When he's done with the mental treatment, he can start the physical treatment.

Q: Did Asashouryuu show any signs of remorse?

A: About causing all the fuss, he said he would have to call a press conference when he returns to Japan.

Q: A request has been issued by the YDC..

A: I have no choice but to sincerely receive it.

Q: So is this a pause for you now?

A: I am not relieved at all. Asashouryuu has a lot of things to do in Mongolia. Under these circumstances, I have to do the best that I can.

According to your logic, if a country has GNP ranking near the low end, the country should not defend its own citizen from harassment of a media from a country with hign GNP ranking (Clapping wildly...). I guess Asa can pay for all the securities.

If any foreign or local person (media) tresspass the private property line, spy on others and caught. If Asashoryu or those owner of the area complain about tresspassing and spying to law reinforcement agents, there si high chances local police can arrest those violators and impose punishment accordingly.

According to Sponichi Annex, the YDC's feeling is that Asashoryu can't quit fast enough. In a hurriedly-called meeting after the Soken Keiko Session, many of the members wanted the committee to issue an intai advisory.

Miss Makiko Uchidate, long-time critic of the yokozuna, said, "The biggest problem this time is that the marquee attraction of a public-service corporation went AWOL on his responsibilities. Several of the committee members brought up the subject of intai but whether a yokozuna continues or quits is up to him to decide."

As for the former chairman, Mr. Ishibashi, his view was even more damning, "I think we are all reflecting on (read regretting) our decision to recommend him to the rank of yokozuna." Another member, Mr. Sawamura said, "He didn't once apologize. I am very dissatisfied with that." Mr. Tsuruta was succinct, "Asashoryu's attitude is too egregiously bad."

Though they didn't come up with the intai advisory, it is obvious that they have reached the end of their patience. "We have to wait and see whether the yokozuna dedicates himself to treatment in Mongolia or whether something new [and bad] developes," said Chaiman Ebisawa.

Some of their displeasure were directed at Takasago Oyakata. Speaking of the oyakata's quick return to Japan, Mr. Funamura said, "He said he would assume all responsibilties. But, what can you say when he comes right back home." The acid-tongued Miss Uchidate quipped, "The mere fact he came back is a problem in itself."

Asa's K-1 fighter brother Sumiazabar was on Mongolian state TV news yesterday. "The treatment here suits him well. His mental state has improved", he said. Asa has yet to face the media or the public after arriving in Mongolia. "My brother is seriously affected mentally, and is in no shape to meet the press or the people just yet. As for the general view in Mongolia that Asa is being persecuted because he's a foreigner- "That is not so".

The physician who is in charge of his treatment, Mr. Oriole (sp?) was asked about the concrete treatment Asa will undergo. " I cannot say anything".

He canceled it. It seems he is still being besieged, just like in Tokyo, and is unwilling to leave his fort for now.

It is being reported that Asa has agreed to make a public apology when he returns to Japan. "When I return to Japan, I guess I have to make an apology, huh?" he said unto his Oyakata. "Yes, it has to come from your mouth", affirmed the Oyakata. While in Japan, it appeared he was so depressed that he couldn't communicate with anyone clearly. Dreamland's air must have cleared his mind, because he spoke twice to his Oyakata, an hour each session, in the morning and the afternoon of the 30th. "As we were leaving Dreamland, he asked me to tell Asasekiryuu to gambarize for Aki", added Takasago. As for Asa's return date, it has been agreed that when Dr. Oriole says Asa is in a state where he is cured mind and body, Takasago will return to Mongolia with Dr. Honda and see for himself, and then they will all return.

It's totally unthinkable that he would be cured in one or two days, but slowly, because he is in a place with fond memories for him, I'd like him to be able to settle down and calm his mind", said Kitanoumi rijicho, in a tone directly clashing with the YDC's militant tone of yesterday.

Some oyakata are pissed off at Takasago. After promising to take the responsibility for everything, and promising to dispatch a rotation of heya oyakatas to Mongolia to watch over Asa, he has now pledged to send two managers instead. "Managers? They are not Kyokai people. They are Asashouryuu's friends and there is no way we'll know what really is going on from them. So much for the 24/7 surveillance", complained one of them.

NHK News has reported that Sumyabazar, Asashoryu's brother, indicated that Asashoryu would be back in Japan in three weeks after talking to him (on phone) yeseterday.

He said Asashroyu has been improving that he told him that he should be good enough to go back to Japan in three weeks time.

Since he has hardly had any treatment at all in Mongolia and this is coming from the patient himself, I am not sure how this could come about.

First it is surprising that Asashoryu could make a decent conversation with anyone when all we knew was he could barely respond to his doctors with just "ahh..." and "ooh..".

Second, his return to Mongolia was only approved by at least some of Kyokai directors because they were told by his attending psychiatrists how serious his condition was. This would make the diagnosis a total joke and I'd bet those directors would be extremely unhappy when they hear of this. Of course the physician's reputation may have been tarnished severely.

Third, Kitanoumi oyakata and others have insisted that Asashoryu could only come home when he is fully recovered and diagnosed to be healthy by their physician (or one appointed by them in Mongolia).

The overall question is how can a patient declare himself to be healthy by himself and get himself out? It's like you are admitted to a mental institution and then saying you are all fine and and leave there.

As for the local media in general, they seem to have cooled down on Asa's reporting. After reporting his arrival at Dreamland, there was virtually no follow up to the story. Most of the reporting was straightforward facts, with no commentary.

Asashouryuu left Dreamland at around 11:30 in the morning yesterday after Takasago and the doctor left. He was headed towards the institute in Khujirt in a convoy of two vans. At around 12, after reaching the institute and seeing the many reporters, the vans made a U-turn and returned to base. At 4 in the afternoon, a reservation in Asa's name was made at the institute. This time two policemen were there. "Asashouryuu has left Kharkhorin so I'm here", said one policeman.

Nothing else is written so it's difficult to understand if he came or not or what the hell this article is trying to say. No other paper substantiates this in any way.

Japanese press has reported sometime ago that his wife was pregnant, around 5 months. However I refrained from posting it as the story was a part of series about his "troubled" marriage, his wife running away and his alleged affairs. None of which has been substantiated and confirmed, just a lot of gossips.
