Kyokushuzan Intai

Recommended Posts

Now it is being said that Kyokushuuzan will be holding his damps in Mongolia. It is extremely rare that a rikishi has his dampatsushiki outside of Japan. This was revealed today by Ooshima Oyakata. "I think it's OK for him to have his danpatsushiki in Mongolia,", he said. A danpatsushiki is not only a rikishi's farewell ceremony from sumo, but also a chance for him to thank all those that helped him and encouraged him during his active years.

Mongolia's first sekitori is no exception. At first, he planned to have it in Japan after Natsu basho in respect towards his many Japanese supporters. "But Kyokushuuzan is a hero in Mongolia. He is a special person to many of his compatriots," added the Oyakata. Knowing this, he asked Shoes what he intended to do, and after hearing his wish, has decided to organize it overseas in Mongolia. After receiving his Oyakata's blessing, Shuuzan said, "I now entrust everything in the Oyakata's hands!". If this indeed happens, it may turn into a nationwide event. All details will probably be finalized after Kyokutenhou's 32nd birthday and Ooshima Oyakata's 60th (kanreki) birthday party in February.

(Gyoji...) ...sorry but...He should at least have something similar in Japan...cutting half a mage in Japan would be stupid... But this is just...ok, most japanese fans won't care and indeed he has so many people in Mongolia wanting to join...but this is so un-sumo...

Let's have it in the Kokugikan...

I think it's great he is having it in Mongolia.

It's a great opportunity for many (ok...some) of us to visit the place where these great rikishis came from as well as seeing the beauty of its landscape and people.

Every hanamichi leads to a new dohyo of discovery.

Thank you for the kind words. Nonetheless, I am with Ilovesumo on this and do think that having dampatsushiki in Mongolia is a little odd. Of course it is good occasion to boost his own popularity for the future political plans, but he is a rikishi and everything he is now he has gotten on that round ring, so in my mind he should retire on the dohyo in Japan.

Let's have it in the Kokugikan...

So along with having all 6 honbasho in Tokyo, you would like kyokushuzans dampatsu there. Perhaps all jungyo tours too?

:-)

Same with meeting friends...

As long as I am here...and that's not so long you know, so not many possibilities. :-(

The Idea of his Danpatsu in Mongolia is somehow nice, yes, I understand it cause Shuzan, I was am a big fan of, want's it like this. But having these innuendos about him in mind, it (Big fish...) that he, an ex Komusubi, won't have his Danpatsu at the Kokugikan- I thought the same when I was reading it will be in a Hotel in Tokyo. You all saw my Reports about the 2 Danpatsu Shiki of Wakanoyama and Hayateumi- they went out of the active live with so much pride and emotions having their Danpatsu Shiki at the Kokugikan with real fans around, Jinku singing, Shokkiri and a lot of tears. I want Shuzan having that too cause it is just for him. The Danpatsu in Mongolia will have more to do with buizz then pride. (Whistling...)

Yeah,.....it seems he is already working for his Foreign Affair's Minister's position.

(What a great land of opportunity).

We have one retired beh (Mongolian rikishi) sitting already in Mongolian parlament and many voters still expecting something smart comes out of his mouth.

Shuzan may become a politician. But, he needs much more than a Danpatsu in some odd places.

(Or, the guy is lost and forgot his roots)

Actually since he is not staying with Kyokai, he won't be having a formal danpatsu ceremony in the Kokugikan anyway (but he can still rent the front foyer or grand room I believe) but if there won't be all exhibition bouts anyway then he only needs just a big enough place to invite all his guests.

Oshima oyakata has not been well lately so I am not sure if he is really up for the travel but I still think it's a good idea to have the first one in Mongolia. He still can invite all the people who supported him to some type of reception party in Tokyo if he still wishes.

Incidentally a former Oshima beya rikishi Kyokudozan became a politician but I believe he left the political world and now is operating his own business as I recall he had a web site sellling some type of health goods.

This clears things up. Danpatsu in Mongolia might make sense after all.

Just as I thought I finally have peace of mind about the issue.

Kyokushuuzan has been sent a letter of appreciation by the Mongolian President, lauding him for his achievements in Sumo. It will be presented to him at the Mongolian Embassy in Japan on the 11th in the morning. He will be leaving for Mongolia with his shisho on the 14th to begin arrangements for his danpatsushiki. They will also attend a homecoming reception.

Shu with the ambassador at the presentation,

"I'm still not used to wearing a suit."

More Shu: "It feels weird to receive this award at the embassy where I had once run away to when life in sumo was too tough."

More weirdness: Sanspo reports that it looks like the danpatsushiki is going to be held at the Kokugikan next May after Natsu Basho.

Hey, guys, make up your minds!

Kyokushuuzan attended a ceremony at his home town of Ulan Bator in Mongolia. Present were the Prime Minister, his parents Kyokutenhou, other Mongolian rikishi and 500 fans. "All of you have supported me well while I was away in Japan. I thank you for that..", he said. "Kyokushuuzan has helped strengthen the Mongolian-Japan relationship", added the Prime Minister. Shoes was awarded an "Honorary Citizenship" by the city council chairman of Ulan Bator.

As for the danpatsushiki, it will be held on June 2nd at the KKan. This became clear yesterday at the airport where Shoes departed for Mongolia. "I've been in the Sumo world for 15 years. I'm really sad it's over. I've got some preparations to make for the danpatsushiki, so I'll probably be back pretty soon", said Kyokushuuzan. The exact date of his return is unknown at this time.
