Sasanishiki 57 Posted May 16, 2005 Yeah, but by this reasoning, oshi is not much better than kids in the playground who don't want to mix it up! (Whistling...)
QttP 0 Posted May 16, 2005 Yotsu. Even though the only rikishi I really care about is a typical oshi-rikishi, in general, oshi-zumo is a bit duller. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> (Sign of approval) I fully agree with you !!!! ;-) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually, I need to correct myself here, as I probably didn't use the best word. What I meant to say was that Chiyotaikai is a pure oshi rikishi, but he's definitely not the typical oshi rikishi.
slt 9 Posted June 17, 2005 There just seems to be so much more variety in Yotsu, and more precision. I love a good oshi bout, in the Asashoryu v Chiyotaikai Haru 2003 style, but generally I find the timing in yotsu more interesting.
Petr 0 Posted June 20, 2005 (edited) Power may be crucial for sumo but I can't find any reason to watch winning someone only by rough power. Beautiful style and a good technique are the reasons to watch someone else's sumo. There is not much to see in an oshi bout. On the other hand, I hate never-ending 'kumu-sumou'. Personaly, I feel best when I win by an offensive throw - there is some magic in sending the opponent to the ground without falling too. Next would be winning through tsuppari. I am afraid, I can't vote. Edited June 20, 2005 by Petr
Rob S. 42 Posted January 18, 2019 Definitely yotsu. I can understand mixing in oshi sumo when needed, but I'm not a fan of the rikishi who just stick to violently flailing their arms and hoping for the best.

It can't be necroposting if the poll's still live... --- I voted yotsu, which I find more visually appealing, but I appreciate that there's significant variation in oshi-zumo - more than I first thought, anyway. Take the three recent sanyaku yusho winners, for example: Mitakeumi, Takakeisho and Tamawashi. All are oshi proponents, but their styles are quite different from each other. Mitakeumi generally goes for pushing up under the moobs/armpits (and he can switch to the belt at need), whereas Tamawashi tends to thrust for the centre of the chest or throat, and Takakeisho has that rhythmic upwards thrust combined with powerful lateral sweeps from his left hand. Benihana 1,937 Posted February 7, 2019 There should be a "why not both?" option. As long as it's excellent, it really doesn't matter.
