Tadanisakari 0 Posted March 16, 2005 Did anyone catch Robocop vs. Kyokushuzan last night? What an intense staredown those two had! Some of my friends contend that Takamisakari holds contempt for foreigners, based on the fact that he seems to have long staredowns only with non-Japanese. I'm not so sure. Any opinions? Also, what's the deal with Shuzan's tachi-ai from way back near the tawara? Did he think it put him at an advantage? Satisfyng to watch Robocop twist him at the tawara like he's done to so many before him.

The guy can't see more than arms length on the dohyo... 2) If you consider the extreme short-sightedness of Takamisakari it sounds like a top strategy to go back until the end of the dohyo and then make no noise at all. Then he wouldn't know where to go. Easy win. ;-)
Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted March 16, 2005 (edited) As for Kyokushuzan at the end of the dohyo, I don't think it can put him in much of a disadvantage at least, seeing as he personally has one of the worst tachi-ai in Ozumo, so it would only be the opponent who gets disadvantaged... Whether it works or not though is another issue, but it should get him a bit more time to react I suppose... EDIT: Yeah, 2000 posts! ;-) Edited March 16, 2005 by Yubiquitoyama
Doitsuyama 1,194 Posted March 16, 2005 I have added this bout (and the other missing Makuuchi from today) on my page at banzuke.com. Great stuff this bout. Great!
Doitsuyama 1,194 Posted March 16, 2005 I wanted just to add that I added the missing Makuuchi bouts from day 1.
kotooshu_bulgaria 0 Posted March 16, 2005 (edited) I would like to take this opportunity to thank Doitsuyama for always being prompt in uploading the bouts and also filling in for Dale when necessary. Since it seems that Dale is having computer troubles this basho, I hope that you will be able to cover for makuuchi for the remainder of the basho. (Applauding...) Thanks a bunch! (Applauding...) I see him with glasses off the dohyo, but I suppose glasses or sports goggles are against the rules for Ozumo.
Kaihayaiha 0 Posted March 17, 2005 I asked the same question a while back and Shiroikuma answered it... from what I remember Takamisakari doesn't like being able to see and recognize his opponent from across the dohyo because he becomes afraid of his opponent but if he can't see his opponent clearly enough to recognize him he isn't intimidated. I've also heard he doesn't want to know his opponent in advance. Strange guy.

Burainoan 0 Posted March 17, 2005 Interesting that he would do that now. Shuzan is well-known for doing pretty intense staredowns on jungyo and at kachi-nuki basho, but rarely does them during hon-basho....
