Nishonoseki's tokoyama Tokoni (page deleted) had to quit as of the 29th, for causing money trouble, the compliance committee had investigated.  o

Gutting to see Mishima go. I still harboured hopes that he had what it took to one day make a challenge for juryo, if pieces fell together nicely.

Juryo:

Mitoryuu, 31 years old , 8 and a half years in sumo, entered at Makushita Tsukedashi 15. This leaves Nishikido beya with 4 rikishi..

Takarafuji- 38 years old, yes indeed, he has retired after 16 and a half years on the dohyo. Never missed a day, sixth place overall in consecutive day appearances- 1398..

Sandanme:

Fujitoushi 26 years old young hopeful, plagued with injuries, just like his brother Fujikenshou who retired two years ago. Jonidan yusho in Kyushu 2024, lost in a playoff in his debut basho in Jonokuchi in May 2021. 4.5 years in sumo

Mishima 25 years old, three years in sumo

Jonidan:

Chiyotenfuu 25 years old  - Jonokuchi yusho in March after returning from an injury, ten years in sumo.

Tamatenshou , 20 years old - Tamawashi's sparring partner and tsukebito. 4 years and 4 months in sumo. This leaves Kataonami beya with three rikishi.

Asadouji , 10 and a half years in sumo, never made it past Jonidan.

Tsubakifuji , 36 years old, 21 and a half years in sumo

Takatsukasa , 23 years old, 5 and a half years in sumo, never made it past Jonidan

Hakuyou , 27 years old , 11 and a half years in sumo, made it to Sandanme once-this March, went 1-6, and dropped back to Jonidan.

Jonokuchi:

Amanofuji , 17 years old, a year and a half in sumo. 

Kougoumaru , 30 years old, 5 and a half years in sumo. did not make it past Jonidan.

Tanino , 16 years old, entered one basho.

Tenkouyama , 30 years old, 11 years in sumo, never made it past Jonidan, from Shikihide beya, home for wayward boys and girls..

Wakasei , 22 years old, 3 and a half years in sumo, Jonidan plateau.

Banzuke-gai:

Kyokutaizan , 25 years old, 6 and a half years in sumo, plagued by injuries, out since last September and Banzuke-gai for the last 5 bashos., never went past Jonidan.

Right, that Nikkan article confused me to the point that I held off from posting the list earlier today. Their lack of mentioning Takarafuji in the full listing (although his intai was already being reported) made me wonder - and honestly still does - if he might actually still show up on the next banzuke even though he retired on the "correct" day. 

But that Nikkan list was strange in general, no discernible order to the rikishi names at all. Never seen anything like it in a newspaper's intai article before, normally everyone's listed by rank or at least according to some other clearly apparent sort order.

That made me change the post several times, from: so he'll be on the banzuke next basho, to: maybe, and then added him, after I saw enough headlines with 16 rikishi, thinking: he can't have handed in the papers right AFTER the banzuke compilation conference.

The order is maybe the order of the application for intai, same heya are together.

Mishima (25, Narutobeya) had an injury when he entered.  He obviously had talent but the injury was a constant problem: up to Ms38 in three years, but injured and out 3 basho; after three more basho another injury which took him down to Jk3; back up to career-high Ms34 in six basho, but obviously another injury (lost his last 5 bouts in Aki).  He was very well-liked in the heya.

Great career Takarafuji, always enjoyed his sumo and was hoping he could make one final push back to the top division.

Asadoji was the youngest active rikishi when he joined Takasago-beya just over a decade ago. Along with stablemate Asahabataki, he became a high school graduate in June after studying with Seisa International High School, a correspondence school in Kashiwa, Chiba prefecture.

Chiyotenfu joined one basho later than Asadoji and was the second-youngest rikishi. In Nagoya last year he suffered a knee injury which required ACL reconstruction surgery, so he dropped down to the Jonokuchi division where he won the yusho in March this year. I've read he has a job in the construction industry lined up for the future.

Chiyotenfu waits for the danpatsu-shiki to start. He used to perform shokkiri on jungyo with former stablemate Chiyohokkai, so he had plenty of experience with an oichomage before.

Tsubakifuji was the oldest active Heisei-born rikishi and spent over 21 years on the dohyo, joining what was then Ajigawa-beya under former Yokozuna Asahifuji.

Kyokutaizan was out of action for over a year due to a serious neck injury. He has fully recovered physically and was able to return to the keikoba recently to work up a sweat, but couldn't overcome his worries and so decided to move on to a second path.
