As a big NBA fan and who currently lives in the Bay Area, this is the weirdest crossover ever lmao. Especially seeing TMZ calling him a legend

Hakuho and Hokuseiho were second fiddle in the end though, as Steph Curry met K-Pop superstars Suga and Yoogi

For context to non NBA fans, the Golden State Warriors are the current NBA champions and Steph and Klay are 4x champions with Steph being considered by many to be a top 10 player of all time.

no word about an invitation to have a cut at his danpatsushiki, which is what oyakata on PR tour usually do - of course this would have to be timed with a state visit

He also met prime minister Oyun-Erdene and invited him to his danpatsushiki https://eguur.mn/368301/

Anyone knows what the medals he is wearing on his suit are? A Mongolian state award, given that the chap in the brown robes on the right also seems to be wearing something similar?

Not much for him compared to his highly decorated father and Asashoryu - Hakuho got the award from Mongolia after he surpassed Taiho's yusho record

2015-02-21_192814.png

On 17/02/2015 at 09:05, Hakuhonofan said:

Hakuho received his Hero of Labor medal from Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj on Feb 17, 2015 as planned, witnessed by his parents, wife, relatives, a few fellow wrestlers, and many state honor guests including moto Asashoryu.

During his speech, Elbegdorj highlighting Hakuho's achievement of carving a new record in sumo's world, and together with his father both being Hero of Labor, a first in history.

When Hakuho received his award today, he said, "I do not have anywhere in the world, and I am very excited to receive such respectful prize. Moreover, being a hero of labor standing next his hero of labor father is a very happy hero."

Later on the courtyard, where a stage was raised for the champion to address the waiting crowd, he said amidst the cheering that his dad won it on the 20th Century, while he got it on the 21st. This year he's been winning 33 times and making history. Next he'd try to defend (the record)in the future. And wishing everyone to have a healthy and blessed peace for the Lunar New Year.

Along with Hakuho, Yokozuna Kakuryu was awarded The Mongolian Barnstar National Merit and Asasekiryuu received Order of the Red Banner of Labour given to honor great deeds and services for the country.

Kakuryu thanked his parents, brothers, relatives and people in his province for all their support. He was grateful for the award, and promised to work hard for the sake of future generations.

Asasekiryuu praised his fellow wrestlers and thanked the people of Mongolia for the award. He said he got up early in the morning, excited and honored to wear his award.

Second from right is Badmaanyambuugiin Bat-Erdene, winner of 11 Naadams (Hakuho's father Mönkhbat had 6). Does anyone know who the person on the far right is? He looks like he could be Hakuho's uncle or something.

The star shaped things is Hero of Labor. The other one is Order of Sukhbaatar which comes with Hero of Labor.

The Champion of Mongolian wrestling Bukh (guy with brown rope- which called Deel) has Honorary sportsman title and medal of champion (title).

His name is Gelegjamts Usuhkbayar, 4 times naadam winner , whose grandfather was also 2 times naadam winner.

Also uncle of Yoshoyama.

Hakuho’s father admired Usukhbayar’s grandfather Jamiyan Avarga or Yokozuna, he was like a mentor to him.

Later on he became Usukhbayar’s mentor.

So Usukhbayar and Hakuho are pretty close, he is like uncle to Hakuho.

i tried to upload some photos but it says there are some problems or error.

Based on BuBa's post (linked below), it seems like Gelegjamts Ushukbayar's also the father of a pretty good collegiate rikishi currently in his 4th year at Doshisha University, who won a tournament earlier in the year.

If so might that be Miyagino's new foreign recruit?

He already was there last year at the start of the project - at the moukozuka 蒙古塚 - Mongol-mound in Fukuoka, with a stone monument erected in 1895 for the dead Mongolian soldiers that came to invade Japan in 1274/1281 and were mainly defeated by the kamikaze typhoon that smashed their ships, Mongol_invasions_of_Japan. It is said they were buried there at the Moukoyama 蒙古山. The stone monument had collapsed, likely after the 2005 earthquake, and for the event of 50 years of Japan-Mongolia relations, the local Mongol friendship society instigated the restoration, after Mongolian students had pointed it out to the local Mongolian consulate. https://mongolia-fukuoka.org/256/福岡市西の蒙古塚記念碑が-復元
