Asashosakari;  Can you explain Mz1, Mz2, etc? Do you pick these numbers or does the Kyokai? If so, what is the reasoning?

It's my own scheme. They're numbered in the order that their profiles are added to the Kyokai site, i.e. Mz3 = 3752 Kobayashi, Mz10 = 3759 Chiyo. Returnees are listed at the front of the pile (Mz1, Mz2) because that's how they typically appear on the dohyo.

Maezumo on day 5  - the owner of that channel is amazing: each day so far at the basho and at least since day 3 from the start of the day till the end (maybe with a break in the middle - leaving one time is possible).

Pretty high-quality video, too - are tripods or other stabilizing devices allowed for regular audience members?

Day 5 results:

Mz1   Tokuda (2-1)            Mz4   Ichiyamamoto (3-0)
Mz9   Kawakami (3-0)          Mz3   Kobayashi (0-3)
Mz2   Nishimura (1-2)         Mz8   Shido (2-1)
Mz7   Omura (2-1)             Mz6   Yabuoka (1-2)
Mz5   Harada (0-3)            Mz10  Aizufuji (1-2)

Mz1   Tokuda (3-1)            Mz7   Omura (2-2)

Kudos, they avoided the Omura-Shido repeat matchup that would have ensued by scheduling the bouts straight down the list.

Standings:

3-win target achieved:
#01  Mz4   Ichiyamamoto   Nishonoseki  3-0
#02  Mz9   Kawakami       Onoe         3-0
#03  Mz1   Tokuda         Musashigawa  3-1

Still active:
Mz7   Omura  Michinoku  2-2   |   Mz2   Nishimura  Musashigawa  1-2   |   Mz3   Kobayashi  Tomozuna     0-3
Mz8   Shido  Kise       2-1   |   Mz6   Yabuoka    Fujishima    1-2   |   Mz5   Harada     Shikoroyama  0-3
                                  Mz10  Aizufuji   Isegahama    1-2

Tomorrow ought to be the final day.

I don't understand the logic of mae-zumo match-ups. What was gained by having Tokuda face Omura today? Once less bout for tomorrow, ok, but now there are 7 wrestlers remaining instead of 8. That's an odd number. BTW, what's so special about 3 wins?

Yes, so long as you put them out of the way from the corridors and walkways (mostly in the box seats).

When the audience starts filtering into the stadium, you are expected to take them down so as to not block other people's view of the dohyo.

Maezumo on day 6 - can we get the channel owner to do this basho coverage every day every basho? - donations for the daily tickets?

Mz5   Harada (1-3)            Mz3   Kobayashi (0-4)
Mz2   Nishimura (1-4)         Mz10  Aizufuji (2-2)

Mz7   Omura (3-3)             Mz6   Yabuoka (2-3)

Omura-Shido (no avoiding it this time) and Omura-Yabuoka happened for the second time each, both with the same winner again.

#04  Mz8   Shido          Kise         3-1
#05  Mz7   Omura          Michinoku    3-3

Remaining qualification order:
#06  Mz6   Yabuoka        Fujishima    2-3
#07  Mz10  Aizufuji       Isegahama    2-2
#08  Mz2   Nishimura      Musashigawa  1-4
#09  Mz5   Harada         Shikoroyama  1-3
#10  Mz3   Kobayashi      Tomozuna     0-4

Maezumo on day 6

The first bout had all the action - a mawashi matta, the slowest uwatenage in history, and Kimura Soichiro emulating Kimura Tamajiro and pointing his gunbai the wrong way (luckily for him, the shimpan rarely waste time with mono-ii in maezumo).

Although he's not doing very well, it's nice to see a new deshi for Tomozuna-beya, the first one since mid-2013. I guess it's understandable that the heya lost some of its pulling power when Asakayama left to open his own heya, but I'd still like to see more recruits. I wonder if ex-Kyokutenho also plans to go independent at some point.

Rugby guy Harada hasn't looked half-bad in his bouts even though he only took his first win today, but I'm struggling to believe that he weighs 86 kg. Maybe my perceptions are warped by seeing too many heavier sumotori, though...

Nishimura looked pretty much just as hopeless as in his first maezumo go-around, and I'm already lining up a persistence spot for him. Kobayashi looks like a guy who won't even stay long enough for three MK.

Oh yes. I am waiting for him to reopen Oshima beya. Please.
I have no idea how such things are managed. It would be unfair to deprive Tomozuna of the ex-Oshima rikishi, so I thought he'd start recruiting for Oshima while still in Tomozuna, with the intent to bring them with him to Oshima when it can open its new facility. I don't see much evidence of that, so I am puzzled.

I'm 182cm and 86kg and it's about right, especially since his body fats gonna be lower

Shinjo-shusse hirou

dly1701150020-p1.jpg

Right to left:

Ichiyamamoto with a kesho mawashi from Nishonozeki's Shohozan

Kawakami is using this one from his uncle Onoe-oyakata - no-name on it

Already Ura can lend kesho mawashi to new Kise-beya recruits like Shido

Omura's has to be a no name one from Michinoku-oyakata, no sekitori there

Yabuoka for Fujishima surely got one from his future oyakata, ex-Miyabiyama

For Aizufuji (Isegahama) I can't spot the design and have no idea

Harada with one from Shikoroyama's Seiro

Kobayashi with one from Tomozuna's Asahisho

After Onosho, Kawakami is the 2nd who had participated in the Hakuho-cup to enter ozumo, he won it while in middle school. Hakuho would like to have a bout with him at a future basho. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/column/sumo/news/1765948.html

Ex-Homasho has scouted rugby club member Harada (17, 184cm, 85kg) for Shikoroyama-beya. Takagawa-gakuen high 3rd year from Yamaguchi-city: "I want to become a rikishi loved by the Yamaguchi and the Japanese people."

His rugby club was 2nd this year in the Yamaguchi championships, in middle school he only did baseball: he is without sumo experience, but thinks that sumo like rugby is a contact sport and wants to make use of his height.

Tatsutagawa-oyakata had a lecture at the high school this year and went to the rugby club to watch training, where Harada caught his eye. In September Harada visited Shikoroyama-beya and then decided to enter. Till the shindeshi kensa in January he plans to increase meals to 6 a day and to train his muscles.

A followup on Harada, now (18, 183cm, 93kg - with the 6 meals), who just graduates from high school: "I'm aiming for high makushita within 5 years." S.-oyakata: "As a beginner, losing at first is OK (maezumo 1-3), if only you put real effort into it!" http://www.minato-yamaguchi.co.jp/yama/news/digest/2017/0304/6p.html
