Asashouryuu goes on drunken spree

Recommended Posts

Four days ago, Asashouryuu returned to Takasago -beya at night after some heavy drinking, and broke the front glass door. The ruckus caused neighbors to call the police.

A patrol car arrived, only to summon an ambulance for Asa's drinking mate, who was totally plastered and feeling bad. In the end, no one was injured by the breaking glass door, and the police left the scene shortly after they arrived, but there was a lot of noise there for a while..

Asa has been on a drinking hiatus since mid-June. After reaching his yusho goal, the tension subsided, and he went drinking. He seemed to have gone a bit overboard with the quantity, though..

Takasago Oyakata has verified this incident. "The next evening, he came over and profusely apologized to the Okamisan and myself. He promised to never drink sake again, as tears poured from his eyes. We have caused some bother to the people of the neighborhood, but, fortunately, no one was hurt.." The Okamisan was seen the next day making rounds of the neighborhood and apologizing for the uproar.

Asashouryuu, who left for Mongolia the next day, was very regretful of his actions. "Oyakata, Okamisan, neighbors, my tsukebito, my wife-I have caused you real trouble. I will not drink sake again!!", he said.

He will return on the 26th and join the Summer Jungyo in Hokkaido.

This is going to be dealed with, for sure..

just saw one of the tabloids here. the headline? "asashoryu goes wild and attacks oyakata!"

That's the Yuukan Fuji. A notorious tabloid when it comes to its Sumo stories..

Yuukan disregard them..

A liquored-up man misbehaving in Japan?! Wait a minute...I can see that anytime even in the countryside :-/

Kitanoumi Richicho was notorious pisstank (Nodding yes...)

Twas the right side of the double doors for what it is worth - the left side glass still has the pattern yet the right is plain see through glass now.

EDIT - so if it is the right side door - does that mean Uchidate won't be angry? :-/ (Nodding yes...)

The new Takasago-beya building, made of glass all around, will not be acquired, due to unforeseen problems..

That's a wee bit phallic...perhaps a tie-in to the homosexuality in sumo topic (Nodding yes...) :-/

Asa returned to Tokyo today. "I had just won my fourth straight tournament. I abstained from drinking for a while. I ws under a lot of stress. I drank too much, I guess. I don't really remember what exactly happened, but I am truly sorry and apologize to everyone for causing trouble. I will be careful in the future."

Perhaps a bit overblown, this incident. An apology would be nice, but as long as no one was hurt. Asashoryu's salary will cover the door replacement I'm sure :-P

Ooyakata on TV today was reported as saying words to the effect of - one more similar act and sumo will be minus a yokozuna.

It appears he went drinking with a friend at a place behind the heya. He drank sake, wine, vodka and beer in generous amounts. He was so drunk he knew he wouldn't make it home, so he decided "to take a rest" at the heya. But, alas, the door was locked. So, he broke it.

YDC Chairman Ishibashi: "After Nagoya basho ended, he seems to have loosened up a bit too much. He seems to genuinely regret his actions so the YDC will not issue a formal caution. But, when I meet him in person, it will be necessary for me to tell him to pull himself together and behave".

Interview:

Q:Tell us about the incident.

A: I'm filled with regret for causing trouble for everyone. I drank so much I didn't even know where I was.

Q: Why did you over-drink?

A: I abstained during Nagoya and was under a lot of stress. Before I left for the evening, I had a pleasant talk with my Oyakata. I was so happy, I drank more than my body can take.

Q: There were some media reports that you attacked your Oyakata.

A: I don't think I did that. It would be like hitting my own father. I may have been verbally abusive, though..

Q: How did the front door glass break?

A: I think I broke it. I was so drunk, I actually can't remember a thing. I have nothing else to say but will have to be more careful from now on.

That idiot will never force his golden goose to quit. Whom does he think he's kidding?!?!

The Mongolian Moron will do just as he pleases and the dimwits will keep on praising how he is Da Man! Get a life... The guy is probably the biggest loser the sport has ever seen. To actually support this moron is one of the most idiotic things one can waste his/her life with. A yokozuna... Hah!

FROM THE MAILING LIST:

This is quite acceptable...breaking the door...it is an obvious thing to try

and do to achieve entrance. Three different times when I was locked out

(admittedly from my own home) I used the electric power saw from the shed to

get in through the door...very effective, works admirably, and the noise

only lasts a brief time.

Boltono.

i agree wholeheartedly. many's the time as a druken student i staggered home to find the door locked only to simply and (brilliantly i may add) open it by repeatedly bang my head against it. unlike asashoryu though when i woke up in hospital i more often than not found out it was the neighbours door i had "opened". i guess thats why he is a yokozuna and i am a mere pleb.

john (Sign of approval)

I always thought that if you could get home you weren't drunk enough!

Met the locked door a couple of times too though - slept with the pigeons in the good old shed meself. (Applauding...)

Shoryu's neighbor on TV claimed to have seen the episode and said the Yokozuna was fighting with others (note the 's') who were trying to stop his attack on the door. History has it that Asa won though the neighbor didn't specify a kimarite as being responsible for the foes not being able to keep him from doing the dastardly.

Rumor has it he punched with his right - no worries then!

At least he didn't try to bring a gun through customs when he came back!!!

For me, he is one of many drunken Mongolians I see often in my country.

Since he didn't physically hurt or kill anybody. ..I'm just fine.

Let him pay the damage he caused.

I'm sure when he gets older he would tone down and behave wisely.

Since he is a Japanese Yokozuna, it's their problem how to deal with him.

Thanks Coo-cook! It's good to see that some Morning Blue Dragon fans can discuss both the ups AND downs of his adventures in sumo B-)

Some of his fair-weather fans are awfully quiet now (how bizarre (Eh?) )!

Personally, his antics make him all the more human, and therefore interesting, to this fat bastard B-)
