krindel 688 Posted March 15, 2015 http://mainichi-podcasting.cocolog-nifty.com/premo2/cat20649852/index.html What do you think of this posture? Not exactly the one I would use for my record-breaking yusho portrait, but then again after 31 portraits I am betting he ran out of ideas a long time ago...

yorikiried by fate 2,038 Posted March 15, 2015 http://mainichi-podcasting.cocolog-nifty.com/premo2/cat20649852/index.html What do you think of this posture? I would describe it with an adjective that I most certainly cannot use in public. Then again, Hakuho's portraits were alwayskindaboring.

Mongolith 51 Posted March 15, 2015 I like the portrait from a few basho ago with the sword. Don't care much for this pose. Maybe he is saving a special pose for 36 when he matches his dad's accomplishments.
Doitsuyama 1,260 Posted March 15, 2015 Looks Like Something That SHOULD BE ON THE DATABASE! Sorry about that. You sure are totally correct. I added the missing Yusho-Gaku to the database.
Asameshimae 220 Posted March 15, 2015 The yusho gaku are a nice addition. Too bad there couldn't be more variety. Read: more diversity of winners.
Benevolance 2,534 Posted March 17, 2015 I sense an opportunity for Captain Morgan spiced rum to sponsor his next yuusho portrait?
Asameshimae 220 Posted March 17, 2015 How many yusho portraits can fit in the kokugikan? (This is not the opening line to a joke) I think I used to know. Anyway, Japanese lament that a Japanese-born (I say born to compensate for Tenho) rikishi disappeared from the walls sometime back, but if some non-Mongolians don't get their acts together (the two most prominent up and comers also being Mongolian) all but Mongolians may disappear from the walls. Not that I have anything against the Mongolians - I can't help but cheer for most of them - but some variety in the diet is nice too. The two Ks at Ozeki have had a long enough time to prove they aren't yusho material. Whose left of the non-Mongolians? I guess Goeido still has time to prove his stuff. Can Tochinoshin maybe show that much consistency?
orandashoho 720 Posted March 18, 2015 Yes, but Tochinoshin isn't Japanese-born either. So I fully understand the hype around Ura.
krindel 688 Posted March 18, 2015 Yes, but Tochinoshin isn't Japanese-born either. So I fully understand the hype around Ura. If there was less hype about any and all more or less capable Japanese-born young rikishi, they would be better off...
Andreas21 221 Posted March 18, 2015 There is a simple solution. Just reserve more space for the Yusho portraits, then put back Tochiazuma and Takanohana and everybody is happy. Maybe. This is what I thought would coming after How many yusho portraits can fit in the kokugikan? (This is not the opening line to a joke) I was in err. Sorry. I have no immediate solution for any Japanese-born Yusho winner. But a solution for the future: Organize that wifes of great Monglian wrestlers have their delivery in Japanese hospitals. Sponsor them with money, fame, and promises of superior healthcare. Then they are at least Japan-born. I know, not funny.

Mongolith 51 Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) Well Hak's kid is Japanese (Pretty sure he has a boy). In addition Hak's dad was a Mongolian dai yok equivalent. Seems like an unbelievably succesful bloodline so maybe he follows in their steps. Then again he is likely going to be very privileged so he may not have the drive or even desire to enter sumo. Also he may just possess a fraction of the talent his pop and grandpa had like many children of football stars. Edited March 20, 2015 by Mongolith
Johnofuji 232 Posted March 20, 2015 How many yusho portraits can fit in the kokugikan? 32 but I think they should increase it to 52 plus room for a Joker Some of them are looking a bit the same so perhaps they can have a game of "spot the difference" where fans can have something to do between bouts. or maybe they could do some Harry potter style hologram portraits. http://www.sumoforum.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=33381 http://ajw.asahi.com/article/behind_news/social_affairs/AJ201201070043 Speaking of Hakuho's father, What sort of fuss do the Mongolians make with their Bokh wrestlers that reach Yokozuna/Grand elephant? What sort of rituals do they undergo and do they have portraits, statues or limited edition Captain Morgan Yak's Milk rum dedicated to them?
