Kaikitsune Makoto 210 Posted June 30, 2004 Hokutoriki was weak at keiko against Asashoryu losing all 10 bouts. Shoryu scolded him badly for not going all out. Also Naruto-oyakata who was present shouted angrily to Hokutoriki whose pushing power was feeble and dispirited. Fee days ago Hoku was able to win only 6 bouts at Naruto-keiko against Wakanosato and others and he had over 20 bouts that day. Is the bubble bursting or is he just tired in keiko after few bouts since his style is explosive and when sharpness goes, Hokutoriki goes. Well honbasho may well suit him much better so we shall see. Chienoshima 0 Posted July 1, 2004 Here is another picture of Hokutoriki in poor shape, with Asashoryu slapping his face : Actually, Asashoryu was really mad when he realized that Hokutoriki was in such a poor shape. Sometimes, he yelled : "Bastard ! Go straight on me, and don't hold on your strength !". When all the keiko was finished, Asashoryu said : "I can't stand what Hokutoriki did today. As a new sekiwake, doing keiko like this is not something you can be proud of. Moreover, it is a complete lack of respect to train against a yokozuna while not going all out. Believe me, this story is not finished !" On the other hand, the surprise of keiko session came from Tamanoshima who was in a pretty good shape. Actually, Asashoryu had a very hard time against him, and barely took the edge on him in 5 intense bouts, winning only 3 of them. Asahoryu was in awe regarding Tamanoshima's excellente performance, and said "This rikishi is extremely good !". So, Tamanoshima may be a real ozeki run this time. Wait and see, Chienoshima
Elenrian 0 Posted July 1, 2004 (Exclamation...) (Proverbial apple...) If he fights so bad at Nagoya, he will make 3-12 or so on!
aderechelsea 125 Posted July 1, 2004 no surprise there about Hokutoriki but i just have to comment on the great spirit that Tamanoshima is showing since last basho ....
Kintamayama 47,170 Posted July 1, 2004 (edited) Asashouryuu was slapping Hoku around yesterday , giving him a few right harites.. Today, he was much nicer to him, and gave him a private lesson concerning the correct way to tachi-ai. Now, Hoku's tachi-ai is one of the worst around. He was admonished twice by the shinpan- bu last tournament for not getting his hands down. Pick any random Hoku Natsu-basho bout from Dale's site, and you can see that he's almost upright at tachi-ai, just like in the good old days back in the sixties. "You can't have just one hand down-you gotta have them both down as is required", Asa explained. "I am a Yokozuna from the same Ichimon as Hokutouriki. I'm obliged to teach him all kinds of stuff", he added. During today's keiko, he did some tsuriotoshi and stuff and won all of his 11 bouts. "I am eager to implement all I was taught today", said Hokutouriki himself. This is the picture accompanying the article, but the other guy looks suspiciously like Touki to me.. Kintamayama 47,170 Posted July 1, 2004 Quite a diferent version of what happened at today's keiko can be found in Houchi-Shinbun. Apparently, Asa had called Hoku on his cell phone after yesterday's thrashing, and said unto him " Tomorrow, we do it again!!". Hoku had no chance but to comply. He bravely waited for Asa today. Thirteen bouts, winning the first one by oshidashi, after which he was seen all over the place in various positions and losing badly. One may say this was Asa being nice by being a leader and teaching him the ways of the warrior, but Houchi thinks he was planting the seeds of fear in Hoku, and quite successfully at that.. Naganoyama 6,024 Posted July 2, 2004 This is the picture accompanying the article, but the other guy looks suspiciously like Touki to me.. Probably Takanotsuru if this took place at Naruto
Mark Buckton 1 Posted July 2, 2004 And this looks like a 'real' Ryogoku stable. Don't know what the places in Nagoya are like myself but those on TV aren'T as 'as' as in those back in Tokyo. The lower windows are in some stables in Tokyo and the wooden pannelling everywhere - is it really in Nagoya? Are they so well built for use just once a year? If not - the momiage man would certainly be Takanotsuru as Takasago doesn't have the lower windows - presuming Naruto does.

Didn't Chiyonofuji use to do the same thing when he had lost to an opponent he should normally beat? Asashouryuu was slapping Hoku around yesterday , giving him a few right harites.. I mean, the guy is a sekiwake and now someone tells him that he has a bad tachi-ai. >:-(

That's right - the temporary stables in Nagoya and area are not nearly so well-built as the home buildings in Tokyo. I've been to 5 in Nagoya, and they are all very spartan. Often just a corrugated tin (acutally zinc, as is often used here) roof covering the practice dohyo. A few wooden benches for VIP visitors and local early risers. Sadogatake is at a kindergarten this year! While I watched asageiko, young parents watched their children parade about the grounds in different patterns accompanied by music blaring from loudspeakers... The lodgings and keikoba of the ones seen on local news programs also look pretty simple...

Mark Buckton 1 Posted July 5, 2004 This is the picture accompanying the article, but the other guy looks suspiciously like Touki to me.. NHK showed some of Asa(s keiko in a bit of a feature yesterday - including at heyas he visited - ALL WERE semi-outdoors with not a solid wall in site. Suspicious picture indeed. (Showing respect...) But not a shock!
