Akinomaki 41,895 Posted June 2, 2018 Chiyonokuni's older brother ex-Chiyonoshin has - in Chiyonokuni's hometown Iga (also his own, but not his shusshin) - recently opened a new restaurant: "Dining Makuni" https://twitter.com/chiyonoshin_999/media. The name Makuni is another reading Ma- of the -shin of Chiyonoshin with the -kuni of Chiyonokuni. The signboard has tegata in the design - of Chiyonokuni o - looks similar to the Kokone-beya design panel of a calligraphy of Kokonoe-oyakata with tegata of the rikishi oo Last year he had closed his former yakiniku restaurant in Nagoya after 5 years and returned home. He prepares and serves the traditional Kokonoe salty chanko, but his head chef is a former classmate from middle school. o He and the guests can watch sumo on a 70inch TV o

He himself uses it as a joke at the rakugo self-introduction, "my real name is Hideki Matsui", after having been told in the 90s by a female shamisen mandan storyteller he looks like Matsui. Morimusahi entered Musashigawa-beya as Gifu pref. middle school judo champion and retired with injury without even having a regular debut bout. Entering at the same time as Takatoriki, he tells though that he has a career record of 1-1 (maybe in maezumo and the data are missing in the DB). That same year he entered the rakugo world, still at age 15. In 1998 he made it to prime performer, sekitori class rakugo-ka. He likes to start his performance with the head shimpan mono-ii standard explanation intro: "I'll explain about the conference just held." - and has as favorite subject "shitaku-beya anecdotes" http://rakugo-channel.tsuvasa.com/nekonosara-utamusasi http://www.sanspo.com/geino/news/20180729/geo18072911050018-n1.html video search of his rakugo: https://www.google.com/search?tbm=vid&q=歌武蔵
Akinomaki 41,895 Posted July 29, 2018 After ex-makuuchi Daishi the singer, barely jonokuchi Utamusashi the rakugo-ka, there are also several ex-low rankers who are comedian actors. The latest in the news was ex-Aononami, a former tsukebito of Harumafuji. He now goes by the name of Mecha-Hosoda. After Hosoda turned actor, Harumafuji had told him: "I esteem your way of life of doing what you want to do." He has some praise for life in a sumo-beya: "The hierarchical order was hammered into me. ... Not just to get strong, entering to learn for society is also good. It builds you into a complete human being." http://www.daily.co.jp/gossip/2018/07/15/0011448323.shtml he did a sumo class for kids at an event on the 15th in Osaka - especially after 0 new recruits this basho, the kids are the future Here he makes a challenge at an Osaka amateur tournament: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWDy_tUE3WY and here a video at play with (still active) Tomisakae: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCqFbER9T9w
Kintamayama 47,440 Posted July 31, 2018 (edited) So I hear this guy is coming to town to do a hamburger eating contest. Nobody tells me about this? I have to find out in a roundabout way. I call the PR guys. They are not impressed by my name (anyone under the age of 50 here doesn't know my celeb status..). So I do my best to impress. Nothing. "I just want to meet him and say hello.. " was my pitch. "We'll see.." was the laconic answer. 10 minutes later I get a phone call. PR company. "Sorry, we didn't realize..Please come.." Sure. Problem is, I had a gig in Jerusalem today at 6 PM. The thing was at 4 PM. An hour and a half drive. I decided that this is important enough and drove there. I'm really happy that I did. It turns out it was a gigantic PR affair with all the major media outlets present. I walked up to him and said in Japanese, hi, my name is Moti etc.. He was happy to hear some Japanese. Although he lives in LA now, his English is not that good. Then, I casually mentioned my shikona. He looked at me. "NO WAY!!" he said and made a dash for his camera. "We sumo fans in LA watch your channel.." he said. I think I'm ready to die. Turns out it was good for PR that I came, because no way was he going to be interviewed in English so I found myself translating as well. Then I had to leave for the gig. He's here for two days only and leaves tomorrow so no more time. It was great fun though. He's a really nice bloke. Too bad I couldn't ask him the unquestionable questions, you know..about the scandal.. I don't even know if he won the contest.. Oh, yeah-it's moto-Yamamotoyama. Entering hamburger eating contests isn't exactly striking me as the best way to lose weight. He's looking good, though. Great that you got to talk to each other. Nice picture, too. Yamanashi 4,091 Posted August 1, 2018 One of the top three eaters of all time is, of course, Nagano-born Takeru Kobayashi, now 40 years old and semi-retired; his world records include eating 93 hamburgers in 8 minutes and 150 rice balls in 30 minutes (= 20lbs = 9 kg of rice). His competitive dimensions: 173 cm, 58 kg.
