I sense something not too dissimilar from a certain Finn's handling of a certain Mongolian ;-)

Anyway, I think I heard of a guy called Tochiazuma who also would wish a Yokozuna promotion during the year. Although, as Kintamayama-san put it in another thread, he's pretty much already there :-)

I hadn't forgotten Tochiazuma but I thought someone else might want to pass that new year wish on.

Here is what I wish for 2004:

Of course they can't ALL come true simply because there aren't enough Yusho or sanyaku spots available, but it's a wish list... :-)

Asashoryu to snap out of it and behave, going well on his way to greatness with another 3 yusho.

Tochiazuma to win Yusho in Hatsu and becoming a worthy rival as Yokozuna for Asashoryu. Zuma to win another Yusho in 2004.

Kaio to win Kyushu basho kadoban with one wounded arm and hurting back, and then finally gracefully announce his deserved retirement, sparing himself yet another failed yokozuna run. :-)

Musoyama retiting to finally make room for some one more deserving and more exciting in Sanyaku.

Chiyotaikai to dump his slut girlfriend and become a yusho threat again. :-P

Kotomitsuki to finally get back to where he was, becoming the major spoiler and Ozeki by the end of the year, together with Tochiazuma becoming the new Japanese superstar.

Tosanoumi to lose 20kg and his bowling-pin tendencies, becoming a steady Sekiwake and serious Ozeki threat.

Takamisakari to be able to hold down a Komusubi rank and continuing his reign as people's yokozuna.

Toki to stop pretending he is sanyaku material and getting back to his "normal" form as Maegashira yo-yo. :-)

Dejima to finally overcome leg trouble and taking Sekiwake spot with Ozeki hopes and a surprise Yusho...

Kokkai reaching Komusubi by the end of the year.

Asasekiryu heading to sanyaku and sticking around near the top... finally! ;-)

Kakizoe to keep moving up so he will be in position for that 2005 Zensho I predicted for him :-)

Miyabiyama losing 30kg, becoming strikingly handsome and returning to Sekiwake/Ozeki threat with a susprise yusho ;-)

Takanonami trading 8-7s with 7-8s to stick around forever. And all that without a SINGLE matta!!

Kotonowaka returning to upper Maegashira and being the spoiler as usual.

Kitazakura winning three sansho and becoming Takamisakari's popularity rival with spectacular salt throws and continued show of emotion on the dohyo. And the NSK letting him.

Asanowaka getting a KK without henka.

Hayateumi making his way back towards sanyaku one more time.

Takanowaka remembering how good he really is and moving up accordingly.

Kasugao winning the Korean Jungyo tourney and retuning to Makuuchi.

Hakuho mixing up Juryo and making Makuuchi debut in Aki.

Roho mixing up Juryo with Yusho in Natsu and Makuuchi debut in Nagoya.

Towanoyama winning Juryo yusho in Hatsu and finally making his REAL Makuuchi debut, staying in mid-Makuuchi as the new heavy guy.

Ama, Tokitenku, Kotooshu all make Makuuchi by end of year.

Ishide and Furuichi back in sekitori ranks.

Utonishiki makes upper Makushita ;-)

That's all for now :-P

Cheers

Chiyotaikai to undergo new earth-shattering frowned upon spinal surgery where the neurons which make him to go for suicidal pulldowns will be isolated from his muscles so he only does sensible pulldowns from now on with wiser set of spinal cord neurons. When he retires he would undergo another surgery where these neurons would be released to every day use. This could cause him to pull down his deshi compulsively for years to come. At least Kokonoe-deshi would be good against hiki-waza.

KaioU to show Zenjimoto-zeki how things are done.

Kyokushuzan to fight all rikishi with same intensity he fights Asashoryu.

Kitazakura to whisk his arms like usually and showing his genuine emotions on the dohyo.

KaidoU to get promotion to makuuchi.

At least one simultaneous henka to the same side by both rikishi.

At least one simultaneous henka to the opposite sides by both rikishi.

Kasugao to learn basic sumo while maintaining his stunningly skillful and beautiful uncommon and powerful techniques.

More left hand outside grips for Tosanoumi and subsequent uwatenage and yorikiri.

One KaioU-Shoryu showdown on senshuraku where KaioU puts the wrath of gods and goddesses on Shoryu with a silent striking uwatenage.

3cm more length to all (4) limbs for Wakanosato.

Realization of the obvious super talent of Kakizoe and to slightly lesser degree to Takekaze.

Retirement for Tamakasuga.

New suit for Tamarikido.

And lastly but certainly not leastly.....kosho abolisment's affect in bout intensity to be MINIMAL.

And here are some things I DON'T wish for in 2004:

Asashoryu doesn't show up for ANY keiko all two months before a basho, but then wins yusho, but instead of going to collect the emperor's cup flies to Mongolia, leaving the entire Kokugikan and NHK audience stunned.

Kitazakura takes so much salt in one throw, he accidentally throws the basket, too.

Musoyama goes MK-MK-8-7-MK-MK-8-7 and retains his rank.

Tochinonada wins against Asashoryu, Kaio, Tochiazuma and Chiyotaikai, but loses to Aminishiki, Kyokushuzan, Tochisakae and Toki to get a 8-7 shukun-sho.

Hokutoriki goes 5-10 - 10-5 - 5-10 - 10-5 - 5-10 - 10-5 to become the new Maegashira yo-yo.

Wakanoyama goes 2-13, falls to Makushita and retires.

Takanowaka becomes a Juryo regular.

Kyokushuzan loses against Asashoryu by hansoku mage-pull-down.

Kasuganishiki accidentally knocks out one of the shimpan with his chin.

Towanoyama decides to go on a diet and loses 50kg by year's end.

Aminishiki decides to put on 50kg and does so by year's end.

Takamisakari accidentally knocks out his own tooth during pre-bout rituals.

Masutsuyoshi rises to makuuchi, defying any explanation.

Futeno continues his "start with 0-7 but then finish 8-7" run to finally make makuuchi debut in Aki.

Toki and Takanotsuru decide to shave their sideburns off, but Tokitsuumi and Roho grow some.

Asanowaka gets a KK with six hatakikomi and two hikiotoshi wins.

Takanonami gets a KK with two matta in each win.

Buyuzan confuses a bottle of Rogaine Minoxidil with suntan-lotion and becomes even hairier!

Kokkai circumvents the no-tattoo rule by shaving out a corporate logo from his eyebrows, earning him good endorsement money and frowns from the NSK.

Tochinohana has a nervous breakdown because no one seems to notice that he exists.

Iwakiyama gets his face smashed flat to the dohyo, but neither he nor anybody else notices.

Miyabiyama develops ugly bumps on the other shoulder too. Tokitsuumi gets a severe case of facial acne.

Kaio somehow manages to injure not only one, not two, but THREE arms in a basho, but continues on and still beats Asashoryu and Chiyotaikai once he is out of the yusho race.

Musashimaru decides to participate in the popular H-1 Jockey Steeplechase competition in Japan for a reported 3 million dollars.

Takanohana commentates on Musashimaru's H-1 performance on live TV.

Nakao returns to Makuuchi, changes his shikona to Wakatsutomu, and then disappears into Makushita.

Kyokushuzan is caught breaking Asashoryu's rear view mirror after his hansoku loss to him just earlier.

Kaio has to intervene between the two so they would not fight, but in the process injures his FOURTH arm!

Let's hope not!!! ;-)

Cheers

Some more-

A tournament prize for Toki he must deserve one by now.

Return to form for Miyabiyama after recent attrocities.

Asanowaka to return to his old ways which brought frowns to NSKs faces.

Kitazakura and Asanowaka to hold salt chuck contest with Mitiozumi as judge.

Makuuchi returns for Kasugao and Chiyotenzan.

Makuuchi debut for Roho.

Return to good health for Kotonowaka and a few more KK enough to see out the year at least.

Kakizoe,Kokkai and Takekaze along with Takanowaka to revitalize the rather stagnant Sanyaku ranks.

Another happy retirement for Akebono.

More health and success for Deijima and Kotomitsuki.

asasekiryu to wake up and emulate his fellow countryman.

[...]

Psst, your wish for him to lose the Ozeki rank shines through here. ;-) (Two MK are a demotion under the new, kosho-less rules.)

Ah, Shybenklyster, I am still confused about this... I thought that they changed that to three MK with abolishing the Kosho rule... damn. ;-)

They talked about it, but in the end they kept the origional demotion rules (two MK's = loss of rank), they just eliminated kosho from the picture. ;-)

Kyokushuzan to fight all rikishi with same intensity he fights Asashoryu.
:-) I always wonder why Shuzan does not show same spirit against other rikishis. Actually, looking at his body structure, Shuzan looks quite strong and capable of doing anything from tachiai to yorikiri. I wish I could see him showing real fight spirits and doing strong a tachiai like Taikai's. However, it is never gonna happen though. Probably he has some mental problem or fear that he could get hurt so he takes it in easy way. (I guess ;-) )

Surely there is a less destructive way of accomplishing this. Coaching perhaps?

Kyokushuzan to fight all rikishi with same intensity he fights Asashoryu.

...and Tochinonada to fight all rikishi with the same intensity he fights Ozeki and Yokozuna

3cm more length to all (4) limbs for Wakanosato.

Ah, its from our medic that Zenji-zeki gets his idea that 4 is not the standard number of limbs! ;-)

Using, of course, his 4th and 5th arms.

Ahahahaha! (Whatever above, it is funny...)

The cumulative effect of these hope-nots had me rolling on the floor. (Sign of approval)

Come to think about it - in the last 3 tournaments Taikai had lost 13 bouts, and none of them was due to badly executed pulldowns. On the other hand, he had quite a few well-timed pulldowns which brought him victories (didn't count how many).

So either he's secretly had those neuron operation already, or (which is more likely), it was just an unlikely accumulation of statistics, leading to him losing at least 3 bouts in Hatsu basho in his old fashion style.
