furanohana 3 Posted January 9, 2003 Great news ! Now it'll be intersting to see how he'll be able to do. And most interesting, we'll have a final bout involving Asashoryu vs. Takanohana... for the promotion of a new yokozuna ?

Zentoryu 154 Posted January 9, 2003 i will be totally looking forward to a final day matchup of taka and asasho, i just dont know who i would have to cheer for Hopefully he last's until the final day. With that knee of his, one just never knows... (Hmmm...)
Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted January 9, 2003 Hopefully he last's until the final day. With that knee of his, one just never knows... (Hmmm...) Well, with him still being so afraid to lose, I assume it's still a double matter, part physical and part mental. I really hope Takanohana is in shape and will actually start this basho (I won't believe it till I see it), and I think there is some chance he'll do reasonably well (say 11-4), but I'm not sure he'll be a spoiler for Asashoryu's yokozuna chances. Despite everything, I think Kotomitsuki and Tochiazuma are still the biggest threat to that (not necessarily meaning they are big threats...)
Tokimori 0 Posted January 9, 2003 Asashoryu's biggest threat is motivation and focus. That's the main issue this basho. Can he maintain this focus after a marriage and a yusho? I think it's going to be hard... It's also easy to forget that it's not only Asashoryu that has "easy" opponents, everyone else too... Three slips for Asashoryu (fully understandable and almost acceptable), can be enough to deprive him of the yusho... It's not easy to win after you've won. My tip is Tochiazuma this basho. He's hungry and he did well a year ago... (Baaa...)
furanohana 3 Posted January 10, 2003 Something funny and widely discussed on the French sumo forum : Meetting the press for the traditionnal "new year greetings", French president Jacques Chirac talked to Eurosport French sumo commentator Merc Mingoia yesterday morning and... told him he had learned that Takanohana will be participating. So our sumo-fan president seemed quite well informed, as (I think) he knew for Taka even before us "normal sumo fans" knew... This was even quoted in the news on the French television "France 3". So... Is Mr Chirac reading this forum ?

Rijicho 6 Posted January 10, 2003 So... Is Mr Chirac reading this forum ? If he does, it's not obvious in the logs.
