Kintamayama 47,296 Posted May 18, 2008 For the benefit of those who didn't see it:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRu7--5hoFs What's great about Toyasuko's clips is they show a whole lot of extra-bout stuff, like Wakanohou saying "SHIT!!"in Japanese on camera and very loudly after that utchari loss today, prompting one of the announcers to say "Well...that was Japanese..".. Jejima 1,498 Posted May 18, 2008 For the benefit of those who didn't see it:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRu7--5hoFs Thank you for this link. A beautiful utchari by Ama. Wakanoho wasn't very dignified in the hanamichi.... (Laughing...)
That-Satsu-Guy 1 Posted May 18, 2008 Wakanoho makes Roho look like a perfect gentleman. I wonder if he'll hold a press conference to apologize. He's not the borg, he's the boor. (Laughing...)
Peterao 3 Posted May 18, 2008 I notice that these day's, Ama's not even close to touching his hands down on the tachiai. Time for another Kyokai Krackdown, methinks.
Fay 1,677 Posted May 18, 2008 With a bit self-conquest i did my camera do some more work for Wakanoho ... (Laughing...)
Kintamayama 47,296 Posted May 18, 2008 The day 5 Wakanohou win was controversial, it was mentioned elsewhere, and many a protest phone was ringing in the Kyokai offices. Did his hand touch the sand, and was it planned? Should he be banned, or take a stand? Here is a picture, on demand:
yamaneko 2 Posted May 18, 2008 Has any sekitori recently lost more by utchari than wakanoho? I cant imagine so. That was an incredible move, i could see it coming. I hope wakanoho uses this loss as motiviation to go forward and get his kachikoshi.

Sasanishiki 57 Posted May 18, 2008 I notice that these day's, Ama's not even close to touching his hands down on the tachiai. Time for another Kyokai Krackdown, methinks. In watching that bout, that was the thing that immediately struck me. As wonderful as Ama's ucchari was, his tachiai was equally as poor.
Manekineko 200 Posted May 19, 2008 That was an incredible move, i could see it coming. So did a couple of (young) Japanese fans sitting beside me, up in the rafters. I was almost more impressed by the correct prediction than by the following masterful ucchari. Almost. Seeing such a bout live, with ensuing roar of the crowd... Wow. Kuroyama 715 Posted May 19, 2008 Asashosakari -You also will be such impressive if anyone stolen yours victory. No. No, I doubt he would be. His victory wasn't stolen in any sense of the word. He lost fair and square. That the move by which he lost was unexpected and appeared to snatch his victory from him at the last moment means little in a sport where the results are decided in a matter of seconds. And even if it was stolen by some infraction by his opponent or poor officiating, that's no excuse for breaking property. He's in makuuchi now. It's time for him to grow up. Jonosuke 28 Posted May 19, 2008 (edited) I have seen enough utchari (and not those exhibition jungyo variety) in my time and the one Ama unleashed today was one of the best if not the best I have ever seen. Given that significant advantage Wakanoho had in weight and the fact Ama was on one foot, extended and almost on his toes, that was an amazing display of his skill and timing. It was a letter perfect example of what a great utchari should be. Personally if it is up to me, I will give him a Gino-sho right away even if he doesn't get kachikoshi. Fans expect to come to see great sumo every day and these days all they get are slap, pull and henka. Ama deserves a special prize for giving the fans what they come to see but all too often go home disappointed. Edited May 19, 2008 by Jonosuke
Jejima 1,498 Posted May 19, 2008 :-) a little - and perhaps something similar exists - but I was thinking that wouldn't it be nice if there could be a place where all the kimarites could be viewed with descriptions and videos of classic examples. Some kimarites would be trickier than others to get from honbasho, but 'exhibition' ones could be put there as a stop-gap. I suppose it could also be expanded to techniques, e.g. tsuppari, henka and that 'clapping the hands in front of the opponent at the tachiai' whose name I've forgotten (something to do with 'cats' I think, so perhaps 'neko-nani-nani')

sekihiryu 51 Posted May 19, 2008 great pics! BUT what about the faces on members of the crowd! I have seen more life at a funeral - and what about the two old boys in the background of the last pic: they aren't even looking! its like they are thinking "I refuse to even watch these philistines wrestle -where are the local boys?" :-)
Sakana 46 Posted May 19, 2008 You know, yesterday, an old japanese gramps, totally drunk, was insulting mongolians yokozuna before they fight. The guy was the seat next to mine... He was saying "baka mongoru ! makero !" before each yokozuna bouts... So about Ama's fight, it's not surprising me, 'cause maybe there are lots of people like the guy I had near from me... ? Jonosuke 28 Posted May 19, 2008 (edited) First those in Tamari are not real indications of what the rest of spectators react. Tamari often have Tamari-Kai members (equivalent to those brown jacket Tozai-Kai members in Osaka) and they have certain conduct to observe, one of which is not to overtly display favoritism for cheering one rikishi over the other. This tends to sober up their outlook. Another thing as you can see Makiko Uchidate and other YDC members were close by and they certainly are not supposed to go overboard. As anyone not watching the action in when some pictures were taken, that always happen regardless at whatever sporting events. As Mr Fish's gramp's declaration when drunk, I hardly think that's anything hardly relevant. I heard worse in other public sporting events from drunk fans but the behavior does not represent the whole. People don't pay up to 10,000 Yen to come to an event and not watch. One can surely find more redeeming use of time and money. Edited May 19, 2008 by Jonosuke
Randomitsuki 2,900 Posted May 19, 2008 Another thing as you can see Makiko Uchidate and other YDC members were close by and they certainly are not supposed to go overboard. I was flabbergasted to see Ms. Uchidate gleefully shrieking when Hakuho won his bout against Kisenosato yesterday. To be seen on Fay's nakabi photos. I don't know if this is proper conduct for someone in her position (In a state of confusion...) .
