Jonosuke 28 Posted March 6, 2007 Nichi-dai's Tomoki Mori is clearly the top stud out of seventy some guys joining the basho but he will be facing Makushita guys as he is a Tsukedashi so it's interesting to see how he does. I can see him doing a Shimoda but maybe more like Ichihara. However in long term Mori is definitely in the league with Ichihara, Sakaizawa and Shimoda, his former teammates and should eventually make it to Sanyaku. Since we don't know who are other guys to be participating in Mae-zumo, it's difficult to tell but once we get more information about their background, we should be able to assess them better. I cannot remember anyone ... :-O There have been Tamahikuni, Tamahinada and Tamahiryu, all three joining Kataonami with Hatsu-doyho in Aki 1988. They also intai'ed together after Aki 1989... Two stayed in jonokuchi all year while Tamahinada at least reached Jonidan 129 as his highest rank...

Kintamayama 47,372 Posted March 10, 2007 (edited) any idea what heya is he joining ? Nakamura. Edit: No, that's his name. Wouldn't it be funny if he entered Nakamura beya? Edited March 10, 2007 by Kintamayama
Jonosuke 28 Posted March 10, 2007 Since he has a Nakamura name, he probably has a Japanese citizenship as quite a few Japanese men have married Filipina and there are many of them living in Japan. I don't remember his name or time but I do recall there was a kid from Phillipines joining Ozumo (I think it was several years ago but we discussed about him either here or in Sumo ML). He used to play basketball but came to Japan to live with his uncle or something and joined Ozumo. His presence must have been so obscure that I can't even remember when he left. yamaneko 2 Posted March 10, 2007 YES! Another fellow filipino! Second one right now in sumo other than masunoyama, right?
Jonosuke 28 Posted March 10, 2007 (edited) Actually Naruto beya's Sandanme Takayasu's mother is also from Philippines. I also believe his mother operates Philippine restaurant called Salo Salo in Tsuchiura, Ibaraki Prefecture. Edited March 10, 2007 by Jonosuke

The shusshin is listed as Philippines for now. The "citizens" ' like Daishouyuu, have Japanese shusshins. It looks like a foreigner at this juncture. It would help to know the heya.. Asashosakari 20,297 Posted March 10, 2007 BTW, in case it wasn't obvious from my earlier post - the new Oshima-beya Mongolian is nowhere to be found in the database.
kaiguma 0 Posted March 10, 2007 YES! Another fellow filipino! Second one right now in sumo other than masunoyama, right? Yes that's right, besides the other 1/2 filipino that Jonosuke mentioned. And I think Masunoyama is also 1/2 Japanese?

Since Hakuhou is already there, I guess he'll be Japanese shusshin, another closet-man.
