Kintamayama 47,222 Posted October 2 (edited) Regarding Kotozakura, who was absent from the 14th day of Aki basho due to a right knee injury, his Oyakata spoke to reporters on the 2nd and revealed that there was "no tear." He injured his right knee in a match against Houshouryuu on the 13th day, and submitted a medical certificate to the Kyokai stating that "he has damaged the medial collateral ligament in his right knee and is expected to be fully recovered in three weeks." After the basho on September 29th, he underwent an MRI scan and his condition was found to be not too serious. "The internal bleeding has subsided," and treatment with regenerative medicine is also underway. It is not yet decided whether he will join the London Koen from October 15th to 19th or the next basho, but his Oyakata said, "He is becoming much more mobile." He is said to be positive about showing up for the upcoming danpatsushikis , and the dohyo-iri at Meiji Jingu in Tokyo."I'll lend you one," said Sadogatake, lending one of the supporters he had on both of his knees to Kotozakura. While he was amazed at his pupil's recovery, saying, "He's healing quite quickly," he also seemed cautious, saying, "I'm sure he's thinking, 'I want to get better quickly,' but I'm trying not to push him too hard. The way his knee was moving was not normal." Edited October 2 by Kintamayama
Ripe 82 Posted October 4 I'm not sure I'd use "internal bleeding" and "not too serious" in the explanation of any medical condition, but I guess that's just me.

Koorifuu 1,120 Posted October 5 (edited) I find that JP>EN translations for medical conditions can be slightly misleading as JP terms can be directly converted to disproportionally alarming counterparts in EN. Wouldn't be surprised if internal bleeding here actually meant bruising - which is still internal bleeding, technically, but generally controlled and incomparably less serious than what you'd normally refer to as 'internal bleeding'. Kintamayama 47,222 Posted October 5 (edited) Kotozakura, who withdrew from Aki basho on day 14, expressed his desire to compete in Kyushu On the 4th, he participated in the danpatsushiki of ex-Ozeki Takakeishou (Minatogawa Oyakata), held at the Kokugikan. He injured his right knee in a match against Yokozuna Houshouryuu on the 13th day of the basho which he won for his ninth win. The next day, he submitted a medical certificate stating that he had torn the medial collateral ligament in his right knee and was expected to recover in three weeks, forcing him to miss two days, including the final day of the tournament. Kotozakura, who had the injured area taped , said, "I wanted to do what I could," and did not compete in any matches yesterday. However, he did use the scissors for a snip at the ceremony for his senior from Saitama Sakae High School. He was seen dragging his right leg when going up and down steps. While he declined to comment, it's clear that he was in pain. Regarding the Kyushu tournament, he said, "Of course. I'm preparing as if I intend to participate." Regarding whether he will be able to take part in the London Koen scheduled for the 15th to 19th of this month, he was cautious, saying, "I don't know." Regarding the danpatsushiki itself, he said sadly, "He is someone who has fought with me on the same dohyo. We have also trained together on the same dohyo." There are many sekitori who graduated from Saitama Sakae High School, and he said, "We want to carry on the tradition together and pass it on to the next generation," and vowed to follow in Minatogawa Oyakata's steps, with his fighting spirit, his stoic attitude towards sumo, etc..
