I think the thread name can stay the same till next year: in the video today for the succession of Terunofuji to Isegahama, the heya provided English subtitles of Terunofuji's interview in the end tell that Terunofuji will retire and Isegahama take over, on Jan. 31st 2026, then is his Terunofuji intai Isegahama succession danpatsushiki/intai ozumo in the kokugikan

Terunofuji is Isegahama now, Isegahama not Kiriyama though, but Miyagino - if he gives that to somebody else and goes to NHK before the end of the 5 year sanyo term remains to be seen

He has the kabu and is now master of the stable, but from his advertisement at the end it I gather he's not using the myoseki until his danpatsu-shiki; i.e. he's Terunofuji-oyakata 'til then.

It is the announcement of Terunofuji intai Isegahama succession danpatsushiki/intai ozumo in the kokugikan on that day

- for the English side, he is still the active yokozuna, who intends to retire: they obviously were insprired by the still title of this thread

If anything, I'd argue that the translations are so off that's definitely human error.

Automated translations could misread the context frequently, but they wouldn't just make up whole unrelated dates out of nowhere.

I tend to suspect that they prepared translations for multiple different scripts to cover all bases, depending on how things played out, and someone applied the wrong file.

I don't think they'll be using a generative AI, but rather machine translation.

I guess a mix of starting with machine translation which gets the personal pronouns wrong, and then as Koorifu says a layer of human fallibility on top.

Seconding this. The first sentence is exactly what I meant.

I've now watched the film, and my opinion's changed - I'd based my previous comment on my interpretation of what was posted here, and that the 31st of January, 2026 date was pulled out of thin air. That's not accurate. From the looks of it, that's the date Terunofuji is having his retirement ceremony.

This is most likely machine translation after all. As @Akinomaki said, someone definitely uploaded external subtitle files manually to the video, but there's plenty of traditional red flags.
