Preparations of the Y/O Aki 2022

Recommended Posts

Double post, in case you are not following the Natsu jungyo happenings:

The three Ozeki decided to do some bouts between themselves (winner stays in the ring style) to "liven up the crowds," as Mitakeumi (looked a bit heavy but had 12 bouts) put it. "We can't actually interact with the crowd, so we thought we should properly do some sumo," he added. "I am healthy for sure. No symptoms," he said after being inflicted with the virus  a few weeks ago. "It's really too bad, I was planning on escaping kadoban and had to leave the basho.. Still, I hope to gambarize as an Ozeki next basho as well. I'd like to get 10 wins," he summed. In case anyone still had doubts about his rank next basho, well..

Terunofuji faced  visiting Takayasu - (4 bouts, 3-1) today at home. He also faced Nishikifuji, Midorifuji and Atamifuji-and went 9-2 overall. "I've trained with Takayasu a lot since we entered sumo - we didn't go at it wildly like we used to, but we did what we could," he said, stating quality before quantity. Yesterday he too was at Arashio beya facing Wakatakakage and others and is training hard.
His knees don't seem to be better than before but he is doing his best while listening to his body. "I think it's going well.." he summed.

In his defense, it’s mostly dirt from rolling around in it..

So Moti-san, are you saying that "bearly" is the new "properly".

I have to think that over.

Sorry. It was obviously not clear that it was a joke.

The end of the ozeki career for Shodai coming because of an ingrown toenail?

It stops Shodai from doing keiko now, he can't tread with the right foot because of the pain.

I guess this semi tabloid is really exaggerating http://npn.co.jp/article/detail/200023780

but it looks like the next kadoban is coming.

yesterday it still looked good

That tabloid more than exaggerated - today Shodai was back in training and 11-0

Takakeishou trained at home today, facing Takanoshou. 13-2. Five days to go. He was seen shouting out advice at 4 sandanme rikishi who were going at it. He remembered how he faced Harumafuji back then and beat him. He also lamented the fact that he was runner up last basho and many times seems to lack the final cent for the dollar, as we say sometimes at night. The rest is boring. Fill in the blanks, you know the drill. He is doing his best.. "Every day is day 1, every day is senshuraku," was the new motto.

Indeed I do, but I'm smiling at the thought of new members/noobie lurkers reading that.

Mitakeumi the extremely lucky trained for three days with Aoiyama and Tochinoshin during the degeiko allowed days. "They know how to bring on the pressure and are very active no-nonsense guys- it was good keiko. I'm not thinking about my kadoban status. I'm going about it as usual. My old sense is back. Whatever happens, I need to win on the first two days, then I hope I can get into the groove and go from there," he said.
