Rainoyama 1,157 Posted April 2, 2019 (edited) Like it was mentioned earlier, the jungyo was in Gojo (Nara prefecture) yesterday April 1rst for the first time in 64 years (last time was in 1955). According to the people in charge around 2700 fans were present to cheer for their favourites rikishi. Local boy, Tokushoryu (who is probably going to be back to Makuuchi next basho) managed to turn the tables on his opponent and slapped his way to victory. Takakeisho was on the dohyo for the musubi no Ichiban. His opponent ? Tochinoshin of course ! The young Ozeki looked in good shape. He came in low at the tachiai and pushed the former Ozeki who probably had flashbacks from senshuraku out. Oshidashi. As announced Hakuho didn't do any bout but performed a "poweful" dohyo iri to the delight of the fans. The jungyo is in Nara today. https://www.asahi.com/sp/articles/ASM412DDSM41POMB001.html?iref=sp_spo_smo_list_n Edited April 2, 2019 by Rainoyama 1

Rainoyama 1,157 Posted April 2, 2019 (edited) The Sekitori did some fundamental training today. Just demoted from Ozeki Tochinoshin lent his chest to Juryo Mitoryu and Takanofuji for quite a long time. Tochinoshin has a torned muscle in his right thigh "It's not like it stops me from doing sumo" he said vigourously. He is going to fall down to Sekiwake next basho and will need 10 wins for an immediate return to Ozeki. "Little by little I started to sweat, I'm training with the hope of not getting injured and to regain my ring sense" he declared. https://mainichi.jp/articles/20190402/spn/00m/050/005000c Edited April 4, 2019 by Rainoyama 1

The Haru Jungyo is in Toyooka (Hyogo prefecture) today April 4th as 31 years old Georgian Tochinoshin continues his preparation to take back his Ozeki rank. Training in small groups of 3 rikishi has started, Tochinoshin faced Mitakeumi and Asanoyama for a total of 11 bouts, winning 10 of them. His master and head of the Jungyo Kasugano Oyakata closely watched his deshi's overwhelming sumo from ringside and approved "He fought with all his heart didn't he ?" Fellow yotsu-zumo specialist Asanoyama in particular was the ideal opponent for Tochinoshin to polish his own feel for yotsu "I feels great ! Being able to go at it strongly chest to chest" Tochinoshin was makekoshi last basho will be demoted to sekiwake next basho but can take back his rank with 10 wins or more. Kintamayama 47,334 Posted April 6, 2019 Sekiwake Tochinoshin is hard at work , planning his quick return (needs 10 wins) to Ozeki. Yesterday, he faced Shoudai and Asanoyama for 13 bouts, winning 12 and looking solid. Granted, not the kind of opponents that can give him a hard time, but he's getting there. Hopefully, he isn't overworking himself. "I wanted to do a bit more. No pain," he summed. 2

Rainoyama 1,157 Posted April 10, 2019 (edited) The Haru Jugyo is Hachiyoji, Tokyo prefecture today (10th) and was in Shizuoka yesterday. More news from Nikkan. Shin Ozeki Takakeisho didn't take part to the morning training today and did some basic training instead. He is been very busy since in promotion, and added too much fat and is a bit out of shape as a result "That's why I have to start with the basics" he explained. He's been doing push ups and shiko since the start of the tour at the end of last month. He said he'll start doing keiko soon "It's not good if I get injured" so he'll consult his body before he takes a decision. He apparently lost about 5 kilos during the basho and has been eating more to get his body back to shape. "I need to add some gazoline in the tank. If I don't eat my whole body becomes soft. It's not diesel that I need, but high octane". https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/201904100000681.html Tochinoshin on the other hand did take part in the morning training and trained vigorously. He had four bouts against Mitakeumi, 7 against Asanoyama for a total of 11 bouts and won them all. "I'm in good shape" he said with a cheerful expression on his face. When asked about the reasons of that good shape he answered " I don't really know, I'm doing everything as usual". It's snowed quite a bit outside the place where the Jungyo was held today and even Tochinoshin, born in Georgia and used to cold was surprised. "I was quite surprised. It's April yet it's cold. It snowed one time on May 6 in Georgia. It's a special day in there (Some kind of national holiday apparently) so I remember it even now. The seasons there are roughly the same as in Japan so I was surprised when it happened as well" he confessed. https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/201904100000697.html Tochinoshin in the snow, from his instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BwECqnwgeBh/ Edited April 10, 2019 by Rainoyama 2

Rainoyama 1,157 Posted April 12, 2019 (edited) The spring tour in in Kawasaki, Kanagawa prefecture today. Some interesting news on Ichinojo from Nikkan. The 226kg Mongolian faced Myogiryu on the torikumi today and won by Oshidashi. It was the first time he takes part to the torikumi since the beginning of the tour because he's been out with back pains. Ichinojo had 14 wins last basho and needed Hakuho to lose his bout in order to get a playoff for the yusho. " At the exact moment I stood up in the to go watch Hakuho's bout while I was in the changing room, I felt the pain quick in" In the end Hakuho won and no playoff was needed "Had I mounted the dohyo in that condition..." said the big man who quivered to the thought of worsening his lower back pain. (Had Hakuho lost and with his arm injured that would have been a strange playoff) But what scared him even more is actually what came next, it was the needle needed to administer the treatment for his back. Ichinojo with his 226kg of muscles and fat is no ordinary man, you all guessed it, the needle was no ordinary needle either (10cm needle apparently ...) "That was not a regular needle, it was thiiiis long" he explained sizing it with his big hands "Besides it was two shots. Wow, that was something" just the thought of it is still making him shiver. It was a first even for the doctor, after piercing through Ichinojo's skin, the big man felt the needle move while still in his body "Now I really hate needles" He confessed with sad eyes. The fierce tachiai with bodies smashing into each other that Ichinojo performs on a regular basis may seem painful but according to him " It's completely fine. It's absolutely nothing compared to the needle. There's a world of a difference." That bad experience was worth it though "I don't feel any pain now. I'll slowly start to train and do sumo again" he said with a smile. https://www.nikkansports.com/m/battle/sumo/news/201904120000857_m.html Edited April 12, 2019 by Rainoyama 4
Rainoyama 1,157 Posted April 12, 2019 (edited) Kawasaki local Tomokaze (24) was welcomed with loud cheers by his hometown crowd. During morning training he could borrow Takakeisho's chest for four minutes of bustugari geigo. Even though it was though he was getting back up right away and the crowd cheered for him louder and louder. "Even though he is younger than me Takakeisho is my senior in sumo (he said 兄弟子 which I thought was only used for the guys from the same stable but apparently not) so I want to do my best to follow his footsteps quickly" he declared after the Keiko. His family was there as well to encourage him. He was back to his parent's home the night before where he played some piano and could spend some time with his 8 month old niece Aisa. Aisa is the daughter Yuka (22) who is the eldest of his two younger sisters. "It's nice to be 24 and have a niece. She seemed to like it when I played piano for her so maybe I have some talent". In the picture Aisa is rocking the T-shirt with Tomokaze written on it that her mom made for her. https://www.nikkansports.com/m/battle/sumo/news/201904120000893_m.html?mode=all Edited April 12, 2019 by Rainoyama 3

Rainoyama 1,157 Posted April 13, 2019 The Haru jungyo was in Fujisawa, Kanagawa prefecture today. As it was reported before shin Ozeki Takakeisho (22) has only been doing fundamental training until now to bring his body back to shape. He started serious training for the first time today, and faced high school senpai Hokutofuji (26) for 6 bouts and won 4 of them. "My body is back in shape. It was not bad but I can't draw conclusions just from today's content" he summed. He wanted to check his level of clumsiness. There were bouts were he was stopping Hokutofuji by putting his head against his chest and made those bouts last on purpose. "Just like I thought it's not good" he explained referring to any other sumo than his trademark thrusting attack. The Natsu basho starts in one month from now " I guess I need a bit more foundation, I'll work on getting even bigger" he concludedhttps://www.nikkansports.com/m/battle/sumo/news/201904130000679_m.html?mode=all 2
