Oshoumi is now wearing a bright blue shimekomi, the same shade as from his senpai Onosato, who inspired him.

In this interview he mentioned that he likes blue and has kept contact with Onosato.

Kitaharima for his record 9th return to juryo uses a new, 3.5 year old dark green shimekomi. He got it for his 8th return Aki 2020, but had not enough time then to get used to it and hadn't used it at the 1 basho in juryo. This time he used it at keiko several times already, not for bouts, but for intense exercise and is now comfortable with it, which gives him a tremendous feeling of security. o

Shishi received a new shimekomi, in a light blue color, imo probably to remind of the blue in his country’s flag.

Asanoyama wants to start in the green this basho: he received this shimekomi from a koenkai person during his time as ozeki and plans to use it from day 1 on.

Asanoyama usually uses the correct dark colours, black, purple - this one he got around 2020/21, the donor already has passed away. He was asked about which colour he would like and said "I leave it to you" - and got one to completely change his image. He wanted to show it while the donor was alive, but he was stopped from participation and down below couldn't put it on, after the return he didn't want to change the colour abruptly.

After trying to reach sanyaku in the silver shimekomi since Natsu - resulting in 3 times 7-8, after last for Haru (8-7 there), Atamifuji uses the red one again.

New juryo Asasuiryu, the jade green morning dragon, will use a gray shimekomi. His favorite color is - and has to be - green, but gray is like a stone, and he thinks of himself as a raw gem to be polished. He also declared that the following shimekomi will be jade green - he wants to fight Nittaidai same year Onosato, by then he'll be polished enough to appear as a jade gem.
