How is everybody going to spend the day watching Day 1?

That's one I thing I never understood. It doesn't take anything away from me if I know the result before actually watching. But since this attitude is widely spread, it must be me who is deviant.

My issue with spoilers is that they take away from enjoying the match. If I see someone who’s about to get yorikiri’d but I don’t know the result, I can hold my breath for an utchari. If I already know the result… then I know the bout is already over before it actually is.

Now that the honbasho kicks off tomorrow, was just wondering what people do and how they watch?

i will be watching live from my lounge room on my big screen TV with a bunch of my friends drinking sake. Loads of food and discussing all things Sumo!

As always there is no better day!

Very similar. Now that the stream is back consistently, we host a kick-off and a wind-up party on days 1 and 15. Sumo runs ~4:30 pm to 2 am where I live, so our friends come over after work. I usually serve up either chanko or okonomiyaki, and we do a casual sumo pool, drink too much sake and whisky, and the pre-bouts inevitably end up with MST3000 style voice-over tracks. We host a pretty-good-sized crowd; usually about 20 people, not counting kids.

Well, we settle in front of the fire (it's winter here) and the NHK bilingual starts at 7.00pm our local time, glass of good red wine, and hope for an exciting time for the next 2 hours.  Just hope the rain doesn't interrupt the satellite broadcast !

Hoping for a great basho.

I don't get home from duty till virtually the second half of Makuuchi, so its the top matches I get to watch live from mbovo, and normally I will watch the recaps from Moti to get a good overview, then Jason's coverage for the details.

Normally on Day 15, my wife Joins me to watch the last three matches as well as the presentation of the Emperors Cup.

However, for the second half of the Nagoya basho, I'm on leave, so you can bet I'll be treating my self to DAILY doses of mbovo

I used to get up early to view the live feed or at least check the results as they came through NSK web site but now I watch them on youtube or on this site........

It wasn't that I didn't want to get up early in the morning,in fact I often don't go to bed till 7-8 in the morning even when the sumo is not on...........

No its because bad results in the sumo games can colour my whole day,so I prefer to watch them later I when I am feeling a little more relaxed.......

My friend prefers it that way aswell so he doesn't get disturbed by the cursing and swearing and the sound of me banging my head on the computer desk.....(Ragingatcomputer...)
